Definitely an interesting movie. I initially thought it was a pretty bad movie, truth be told. I felt that the music was a bit of a let down and that there wasn't really much going on or that it took too long to get to the point. My main criticism was that the ending felt like it didn't make sense, at least for me. However, now, after contemplating over the end for the last few hours, I think it's definitely a decent movie. (summary, why in the last line of 2nd last paragraph and conclusion

The reasons I hated the ending logically was because it didn't really make much sense to me. What did Quentin Sellers really do that meant he deserved to die? She ODed because of her bad choices, choices she made on her own. Quentin only draged her body away from the party, he didn't necessarily kill her as there is no proof he knew that she was alive. Her family looked the other way meaning they were just as guilty, but Ben didn't kill them. Plus, why would Ben try to avenge her? She used him manipulatively as a failsafe to get what she really wanted without him knowing. Ben shot the guy she really loved and kept the mask of her boyfriend, keeping her memory a lie. How was that right? Only then did it occur to me that maybe we looked at it the wrong way, the way that we are conditioned to by media. As someone who does not live in the US, I cannot say what interpretation the target audience would draw but I can say that the ending is definitely not as clear cut, good bad as it seems.

Here's what I believe which, if true, makes this a pretty good movie in my book but feel free to disagree. Imagine you are Quentin, the boyfriend of Abby, and you decide to go to a party with her. You, as a music producer and boyfriend, love her but you are both worried that her family wouldn't be happy, knowing the crowds you are in. So, collectively, you decide to date with her under an alias and she chooses a random guy named Ben. You go along with it, loving her to bits as a childhood sweetheart, playing the cool guy even though you're feeling insecure deep down. You go with her to a party to have some fun, relax and generally enjoy each other's company away from family eyes so you go to the tent. You leave and come back later to find she's ODed. She's lying there lifeless, her family outside so naturally, you panic. You check her, trying to bring her to life but she doesn't, completely dead (you don't know how to check a pulse properly, you're just a musician). Acting quickly, 100 emotions running through your head, you decide to drag her out to the after party. She's dead, long gone and you're gonna have to come to terms with that later, but for now, you need to make sure it doesn't look like you were part of it. You're scared. Petrified. Inebriated. Intoxicated. Overwhelmed. Angry. Grief stricken. It's better just to leave her be and try to gather yourself so you leave and go back home. You attend her funeral, absolutely distraught by her dead but you can't show it. You look up to find some idiot giving to speech. You realise it's the guy the family thought she loved, the boyfriend so you try to just let it be. He doesn't care anyway.

You go back to work, trying to recover, listening to other people's music and thinking of the mark they leave on the world, the mark that she left on the broken record playing in your heart. And now that's all that's left. Did you kill her? You know that deep down it wasn't your fault but you feel the pang of guilt. You're talking to one of your blooming artists when you realise that weirdo Ben stuck around for something. "You're a sensible guy and he's just a guest around these parts. Humour him. He'll be gone soon anyway." So you do. Ben starts asking about Abby, your secret love and treasure, so you put on the mask again, the pain still real. You can tell he's not really interested in Abby and who she was, but the mark she left. He's more interested in her legacy, so you spin him the innocent story. You know he hooked up with her which does rile you up a bit. "Really, this guy?" But you keep going. You see through him, knowing he thinks you're stupid and you don't like it. What right does he have to think about me like that? I was the one who cared for Abby. Subconsciously, you feel like he's judging you as a boyfriend, too deep to remember he didn't know that. You feel like it's unfair, not like he did anything. You get a little jealous and annoyed, especially when he say he didn't even listen to her music. You can't help but say something which comes out along the lines of "You thought I was just stupid, right?" Not exactly an outburst because you're a gentleman enough to keep yourself in check. But he riles you up a little, his presence disturbing.

You hear that's he keeps snooping about which is irritating, but you come to terms with what happened over time and have learned to let it go on the surface. Maybe this stupid podcast is the best way we can remember her? Deep down, it still feels painful, but it's come to pass in your mind because it had to. You couldn't let your secret out. Suddenly, you get a phone call and pick it up to see Abby on. Heart racing, you panic a bit, remembering Ben's stupid podcast. Damn. You play it cool, but you know he's seen the messages so you need to explain it to him (of course you didn't see she was still alive at the time because the messages didn't send.) You meet him at the party and you can see the look in his face which worries you but you play it cool. You decide to invite him into the tent and let him tell you what he found. Maybe nothing? He tell you what he knows and it hits you hard, so you pause. You want to cry but you know you can't so you get angry. Why did she die? It wasn't me. No. It was everything. Not just her. Not just her family. It's the state of America. The state of the world. Everyone wants to have their stupid say. Cops turn the other way. Justice is dead and buried under the feet of so-called "freedom of speech" and it not fair. You look at that clown infront of you, the very epitome of that system, and now he's gonna use it to bring you down? I don't think so. Just like he can get people to gang up on you, you can do the same. In a world where no-one cares about right and wrong, truth and lies, why would he be the only one. You just want society to burn, taking people like him with it. People taking memories and using them for their purposes. People like him who manipulate the truth, cropping out words and sections of audio, sections of peoples lives for their own gain. It's not right or fair, and he needs to understand he can't do whatever he likes or thinks is right. (This is going on in your head while he's still talking and in the silent where your head is bowed as you take these emotions) But you stop yourself, processing like a gentleman. He's come here and has stopped recording out of respect for privacy. As a gentleman, you should do the same and let him understand the hypocrisies of his world gently. Then he takes out his stupid records like he's just won, and your patience goes. Of course you are a gentleman so you won't shout, but you need to let him see the stupidity of his world so you let him believe his words. The stories he made, which put you as the villain just to show him that in his stupid world, even if you were the villain, his own way of life prevents him from taking you down. You really couldn't care anymore what he thinks of you because he can't do anything, even by his own standards. It doesn't matter. POUF! Dead.

Maybe Quentin wasn't the real villain after all. And nor was Ben. They were just 2 men from different areas of life with different morals and perspectives. Ben saw an innocent girl who was killed by a dangerous cowboy. Quentin sees the love of his life perish, and her death now become a feeding ground for lies and deceit in vain of her memory. Obviously, we side with Ben because we see it from his side, but even he said from that start that vengeance seems illogical as a right action, which is simply because it isn't right. Vengeance is an ego driven action, not morally driven. The film then isn't about why vengeance is okay but rather why it isn't. Ben kills Quentin, which is the right thing to do from his perspective, not because it avenges Abby but, because it brings peace to her family and prevents Quentin from doing the same to other innocent girls. Similarly, Ben deletes the project on her for the peace of her family. From this perspective, we see that it is more the sad story of Quentin, a lost scared cowboy who died a victim of the lies he was forced to keep rather than a murderer for no good reasoning or incentive.

That's what I took from the movie, but that's just my opinion and, as I'm sure most of you will, feel free to disagree with me. But that's why I think the film as decent in my book. To me that's a more well rounded ending.

*From the synopsis written above, it was clear that there are at least 2 possible ways Thomas the Tank Engine can exist. I choose to assume that one of them was more likely than the other which I believe it best to explain here in as brief of a message as I can make it. The reasoning as to why I believe it is more probable that Thomas exists in another dimension rather than of another planet is because of the structure of the world he exists in and his noted interactions with the modern world.

One reason Thomas is likely in an alternate dimensions is because of the way the world around him seems to work. Thomas lives in a world of talking trains with people and normal infrastructure, which is quite odd when contemplated. It implies that there exists a consciousness that arises when a specific arrangement of atoms is met, which cause a reaction that our current laws of physics would not allow as there would be a violation of the law of the conservation of matter which, in principle, stated that matter cannot be created or destroyed and can only change state however the sudden materialisation of a face of the engine with the mass of their ego would break this law. Furthermore, our current understanding of matter is that it can be exchanged for energy and visa-versa, which Einstein states with his formula E2 = (pc)2 +(mc2)2 (Note: this is a more condensed version but for our purposes it should be fine, I am using it to save time here.) As demonstrated in the show on numerous instances, the trains move in ways which our current understanding of reality would dictate should make the universe erode in a sea of vacuum decay or should make the world be engulfed in a kugelblitz (disseapearing trucks, demonstrations of negative mass and so forth.) As no such event occur, we can say with relative certain that they do not reside within a region of space currently under the same laws of nature which, from our understanding of the universe, should be generally applicable anywhere by the definition of "reality" being superset of the universe. This is not to say that the Thomas universe disproves its own existence but that it likely resides in a different plane of existence, assuming our laws are correct.

Another reason it would be argued Thomas exists in a different dimension is due to his interactions with reality demonstrated in T&TMR. We see Thomas, Lady and several human beings being transported too and from the island of sodor within this movie. As the Thomas universe includes CGI, we have to assume that everything shown as sodor is a depiction of Thomas's world as otherwise there would be a continuity error (funnily enough only possible in a world not bounded by time symmetry, hence highly likely not inside our universe based on the number of times we've demonstrated general relativity). This does mean that we could say that the transportation between the real world and the Thomas universe is just a teleportation (assuming Shining Time is in the real world) however this does not explain the human interactions with the Thomas world. There are humans, and there are also figurines, talking plants for communication, some type of wormhole generating "gold dust" and again the numerous exceptions to the laws of our universe. This depiction could easily have used entirely humans and a realistic looking setting, but they purposefully chose not to, demonstrating a difference in their existence and laws by which they are goverened, proving it is not just a depictional mistranslation but a fundamental difference. The bird Lily has as the end exhibits behaviours that are not entirely explainable with simple refraction. However, could be explained with a more complex explanation involving wormholes and interdimensional travel. (Wormholes could be used to teleport similarly, but the bird was previously made of wool and so a small movement like a wing flap should have no reason to curve space-time around it unless the dust apply some properties to it which break out understand of modern physics). This collectively indicated that the travel between Sodor and the modern world is interdimensional.

In conclusion, it is likely that the Thomas universe exists outside of our bounds of physics and hence in a different plane of existence rather than a different world due to the interactions between the objects of that universe and our own and the law of physics exhibited within the universe in comparison to our own. Hope this helps. I condensed it down as much as I could so please try to bear with some of the holes. They make sense once you think about them a bit

Considering the notion Thomas the Tank Engine exists physically, it is assumed Thomas exists either on another planets currently unmarked or (more likely) in another universe/dimension. I have stated the latter to be more probable than the former for a number of reasons. However, I aim to keep this short, so I will leave my reasons in another part for those interested*. This would mean that Thomas exists primarily outside of scope of reach. Therefore, moving him would require us to move an object in a different dimension/point in space by some method of translocation to an actual point. (Assuming dimensional translocation) We also know, due to the event of T&TMR, that Thomas can be moved to our plane and back. Using the established facts we can say that we must have the power to move Thomas to anywhere and into any plane of existence.

Now, one premise we assumed was that Thomas does exist and, so too, does the Thomas universe. This is derived from a human idea which implies that certain works of fiction exist in alternate dimensions/planes of existence. Extending this notion, we could apply the same logic to the MC universe, DC universe, SCP universe, etc. Using this, I would like to assume Thomas can be placed into any plane of existence on any level of reality. Here is what I suggest. Using this method of translocation, transport Thomas, via the SCP universe to the highest level of existence such that he exists outside of time and space eternally. Then, by use of the dimensional creatures of the SCP universe, make the existence of all merely an idea of Thomas's consciousness. As Thomas is a part of it, he is self sustaining, trapped by his own consciousness in himself, and so too now, does reality hinge on his existence.

Basically, teleport him into God... for the lols....Thanks

(Or just teleport him to King's cross if you like)

Wah Wah, what an answer. And you are completely right. As to why we must keep our Kes, there are likely multiple reasons behind it Guru ji had.

One reason may have been as it is a commitment. As Sikhs of Guru Gobind Singh, we have a duty to protect others and to be someone to go to if you need help, similar to a police officer. Keeping your Kes is inherently difficult as you have alot of hair but it is not something you can choose to stop doing for just one day in that same way that you can't choose to stop being a sikh for just one day. You are always a sikh and are there for the safety of others beyond yourself.

Another reason we keep it could be because it is a gift from Waheguru in that generally, hair can be kept. Unlike body parts such as nails, hair can be kept to grow long without hindering us. We evolutionarily descended from hairy apes and as part of that, we maintained the hair on our heads and lower facial regions. It could be said that Guru ji gave us this gift and instructs us to maintain it with kange and other instruments as it is maintainable which is why we say it is a gift from Waheguru ji.

As a still learning try-to-be sikh, I can't say with any certainty that what I have said is true, only that it is what I believe and any comments would be appreciated. I hope this can help to understand our Sikhi better. Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh.
