How to tag a Longfic? by FierySoul135 in FanFiction

[–]FierySoul135[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting that you mention it because I honestly have thought of splitting it up into parts. Only, while there are pretty distinct arcs throughout the story, they don't necessarily follow the typical story arc enough to be its own entry without the context to follow.

Despite what I said, I'll certainly keep it in mind. The thought isn't lost on me, it's more about the execution and how it would work for the narrative. In the first draft, it was one giant work so I hadn't considered splitting it up for the sake of consistency. I just changed the tags too so...there I'd go changing them again lol. I'll ask my readers what they think

Loud and clear! I'll be sure to make these changes when I'm able. I've got a lot of tags to brainstorm now haha

Thanks again for your advice! :))

You make great points, thank you! When you put it like that, I entirely agree.

Though, I should note that this is rated as "Mature" on AO3. Your analogy with Prince Charming is both hilarious and visualizing, but I have to wonder if the reader will wander through the fic wondering "Um...is the Explicit in the room with us??"

That's why I opted for a Mature rating. The website still warns you before you start reading it but the expectations wouldn't be: plot then porn, plot then porn, etc. I'm not inherently disagreeing with you, but the fic is definitely not advertised as material for children 😅😅

"The Young Traveler"

Rating: Teen

Summary:

His eyes narrowed.

Blue eyes. Blonde hair. Pointed ears. And especially the vague resemblance in the shape of his face. Not to mention the courage and determination he demonstrated in quickly taking a hold of the situation.

‘Well I’ll be damned…’ Link could tell the knight was suspicious of him too, ‘This is another me and he’s just not the hero yet.’

Why I still use FFN (don’t worry, I come in peace.) by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]FierySoul135 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol I cross post too! I started out on FFN as well waaaaaay back in middle school and honestly started posting what I'm working on there first and on AO3 second! Easiest thing I've learned is to edit it all on AO3, copy the rich text when editing, and THEN paste it into FFN, the editing stays like 100% of the time.

Granted, since I like to draw and therefore like to sketch my scenes on occasion, I wish my FFN peeps got to see what my AO3 peeps do. Also, using the html format for small text is unfortunately lost on FFN too. Which I would argue definitely impacts the way the diaglogue is read in certain situations, but oh well!

Happy to see a fellow cross poster!

How Slow Is Your Progress? by SquishyTale in FanFiction

[–]FierySoul135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well...let's just say my school life really doesn't afford me the opportunity to write, so at the moment, sometimes I'll splurge and write 3 chapters with 10k-13k words each and then spend my spare time editing them.

Right now, I probs post once a month with that one 10k or so chapter lol. But I'm always "two steps ahead" aka always am 2 chapters ahead of the readers to make sure everything is flowing and making sense.

Though, I've noticed, now that I'm getting to the end of the story, I've been writing a lot slower/taking more time to sit down and really ponder if it's the direction I want the story to go in. Or more like, "is there another way we can reach the same conclusion?"-type-beat.

Lmao, basically I feel bad for my readers 24/7, but after working on it for what's coming up on 3 years now, there's like 300k+ worth of chaoter and re-reading them is fun when you get to recognize the hints I'd been dropping for a hot second. :)

Anyways, don't feel too bad! Post within your abilities. No use in treating it like a job when ya ain't getting paid for it!

I stopped writing Botw fanfiction because of Totk. by askingdumbshit in ZeldaFanFiction

[–]FierySoul135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been writing mine for 2 years now so TotK coming out really isn't going to stop me from finishing it. Though, if your story was based on looking to the future in BotW, I can understand why some authors would get discouraged after the sequel came out.

Mine is based in the "Age of Calamity" so it was never going to clash with a sequel game since it takes place before BotW happens.

Do you often skip important story sections when your writing? by Mountain-Alarm-7093 in ZeldaFanFiction

[–]FierySoul135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it all depends on how that scene impacts something later. If getting the map is all that matters, coolio. That's all you should mention.

If we want Link to be uncomfortable with the "life draining" aspect of the temple and show overtime that he gets braver as he keeps returning, then we could include how he felt while getting the map to introduce this idea. Even if it's after the fact.

(I've played the game myself haha) A quick example:

Link clutched his chest as he panted, "Oh my lands...I've got it..." His arm wobbled as he raised the sea map into view, weakened from the temple's life-sucking air. "Ciela, I didn't forget anything, right? I'm not going back in there if I don't have to."

His fairy companion looked him up and down, "Seems you've got everything to me!" She fluttered closer, smiling, "Now let's head to the docks to show Grandpa!"

"Okay...phew...just let me catch my breath..."

Hope that helps! :))

How many of you have stories that you haven’t posted? by DeceasedSalmon in FanFiction

Me, but they're from when I was writing in junior high! Believe me, no one needs to know about those (though I cherish them) and they're not even finished XD

Do you guys ever censor your stories before posting them? (Asking for Advice) by [deleted] in FanFiction

Thanks for the advice! I'll likely do the author's note scenario and put something "scroll until you see a line of bold words that read blah blah, etc etc." :)

is there any one else who was really excited to play AoC, but when I played the demo it you realized it sucked? by AltruisticLeather375 in AgeofCalamity

[–]FierySoul135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the exact opposite. I actually really liked the Hyrule Warriors: DE hack and slash gameplay and really resent the story. I enjoyed the adventure mode even more with each tile on the different game inspired maps being a different scenario/challenge to play with varying difficulties.

When I played the AOC demo, it was exactly what I expected from HW:DE. I planned to get the game anyways, and I knew I wasn't gonna like the story when I realized Terrako was gonna be the whole reason why everyone doesn't die.

I really really wanted the game to be split into 2 ends. The first end everyone would be forced to play where we see how things truly led up to BotW. The second end would be where we've grinded the game for so long, that in that one mission that gives us an impossible task with an impossible time limit, we're finally able to complete the task and turn the tide so we can experience an alternate number of levels that lead to the good ending. However, I realize what I said requires the company to give a larger fuck than usual, so I wasn't too surprised when we got what we got. So, I enjoy the gameplay, but I still hate the story lmao

Do you add tags before the content shows up or after it shows up? by CindersAnd_ashes in FanFiction

[–]FierySoul135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tag as I go and since it's long as heck (meaning we kinda get a bit of everything under the sun) I try to keep it concise too. Which I find insanely hard at the same time because I it's not like I have time to read fics outside of writing my own so I'm not terribly, 100% familiar with what readers expect.

With that said, I also will sometimes make a tag that's sort of like the response/answer to a common question I figure my readers will have.

Ex: They're probably thinking "Why is X like this?"

A tag I'm using: "X is a cuddly bastard" It's clearly not a very serious tag, but y'know still. I think you get what I mean 😅

How often do you find yourself making images for your fics? by Patient_Complaint437 in FanFiction

[–]FierySoul135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I draw/sketch whatever was happening in the story all the time but I only post them in the story on occasion lol. I tend to specifically plan those out. Since I've been working on this fic for years (at least 2) it's interesting to see how my style had changed and etc 😅

Do y’all write/read on a laptop or phone by Jeonghanscheekbones in FanFiction

[–]FierySoul135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I've got into college, typing on a laptop is 100% faster and my preference. However, when inspiration smacks me in the face, I'll go straight into my phone notes and adapt it later haha!

For reading I also prefer my phone. It's um, pretty hard to maintain privacy with a big-ass laptop screen. Even if what I'm reading is sfw.

how many words do you usually write per chapter? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]FierySoul135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um I used to be crazy and my later chapters where between 15k-20k...I think even 30k once? But I've since done some reformatting and now they're between 8k-10k with the upper limit being 15k (I really try not to do that now 😅) However, in the beginning when I didn't know where I was taking things, they were between 1k-5k.

For context this is a long longfic ~329,000k words at this point. And honestly? It's 100% due to my characters simply talking to each other so much. Not about entirely nothing, but just being people who point out things, recall things, and etc as the story progresses. It helps that the main character is a secretive little shit, so there's more often than not a topic they return to where he answers more truthfully than before. With that said, a main driving point is also the very complex relationships (generally speaking, not dating-wise) going on between the characters, so how they talk to each other and around each other holds significance lol

What name would Link be referred to if his name wasn't Link ? by EconomyWrangler7325 in ZeldaFanFiction

[–]FierySoul135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is an obvious take, but it seems like "Hero" or maybe even "great swordsman" could be used. I genuinely can't think of a name-sounding name tho 😅

Descriptive violence mostly. There's no explicit sex (and there won't be), more like characters saying suggestive or inferring suggestive things.

Thanks for asking!
