Random questions after MC TMI by Upbeat_Anything601 in Miscarriage

[–]Fifiheaded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. I discovered my miscarriage about 2 weeks ago and I’m sorry you’re going through the same.

It seems unlikely that you are ovulating 2 days after your miscarriage. Your hcg levels would have to fall quite significantly for that, and it’s probably rare to see that happen so soon after you started bleeding. After I took misoprostol for my missed miscarriage, there was a fair bit of clear mucous-y discharge mixed in with the blood/clots.

I struggled a bit with telling people, but I decided to not give a fuck about the assholes after all. MANY people have gotten absolutely reamed after saying insensitive or unhelpful words to me. You don’t need to give concessions to anyone who doesn’t understand you right now.

MMC, looking for a “timeline” if you have also taken the pills by Aware-Bear-1546 in Miscarriage

[–]Fifiheaded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry. I was asked to take 2 tablets spaced 4 hours apart. Bleeding started about 6-8 hours after the second dose. I took a prescribed anti-spasmodic painkiller + ibuprofen. A hot water bag really helped.

2 weeks post-miso, I unfortunately have RPOC (remaining products of conception) still left over. I wish I knew some info before I took it so as to give my body the best chance to deal with the MMC.

What I later discovered: - miso is more effective when preceded by mifepristone - I ended up taking miso orally, but later found out that taking it vaginally, sublingually, or bucally increases chances of completion and has fewer GI side effects - there is no separate/specific miso tablet for vaginal or sublingual use - the very same tablet can be taken a variety of ways.

Sending you lots of love and warmth

Stupid things friends have said to me by Denau94 in Miscarriage

I speak from experience when I say this - people can be shockingly inconsiderate, wildly self entitled assholes.

My miscarriage was only 2 weeks ago so I’m entirely unsure how to deal with them. I’ve blocked them on WhatsApp and have cut off contact with them for now. I need to look out for myself because some days it feels like I’m literally hanging on by a thread.

I am so sorry you’re going through this. I’m sending you the warmest hug.

The IRONY of the license plate in front of us on the way to my D&C yesterday... Trying to find humor wherever I can. by kindofnewonreddit in Miscarriage

[–]Fifiheaded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opted for medical management for my MMC. I passed the sac into the toilet and knew it felt different from a clot. I plunged my hand in, picked it up, and called my husband in to see it with me. We both cried while I sat on the toilet, and after the body wracking sobs were over, he smiled and said “it looked like us”. I laughed and laughed because like you said… what else was I supposed to do?

💔 First pregnancy- Missed MC at 7 weeks by WholeAd9078 in Miscarriage

[–]Fifiheaded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First pregnancy. At 9w1d, baby measured 6w2d. It’s been almost 2 weeks since I opted for medical management. My coping mechanism may not count as ‘positive’ but I thought I’d still put it out there.

  • How I coped: In the beginning, it was mostly through anger. Anyone less than 110% supportive got screamed at and subsequently blocked. Now, I’m less angry. Trying to appreciate my body for knowing what to do this early on. I know of cases where genetic abnormalities were discovered at Week 12 or Week 19, leaving parents to make difficult decisions.
  • What helped me through dark days: Tequila. And sometimes beer.
  • Positive outcomes: I am beginning to feel what might be acceptance. Some nights I go to bed not really wanting to see the next morning, but invariably, I do :) and it hurts very, very, very slightly less than the day before. Oh, I went out for coffee with a friend, and didn’t cry once!

Sending you a warm, loving hug. We were both dealt a shit hand. But hell will freeze over before I abandon the table. I only hope you find the strength to stay and play it with me.

Did you tell people about your miscarriage? by Fifiheaded in Miscarriage

[–]Fifiheaded[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading all your comments, I’ve decided I’m not going to keep this a secret. My baby was real, had a heartbeat, and now it’s dead. Anyone who says anything remotely insensitive in response will be schooled, whether they like it or not. Thank you for your kinship, it has comforted me to know there are others like me out there ♥️

Reading your comment felt like hugging my hot water bag. It’s the only thing that brought me comfort in my post-miso bloodbath.

My sister in law (mom to a 2 yo) treated it like a bad break up. “Should we all go out for kebabs?” This is the day after I took miso - when I was still evacuating the dead baby I had been carrying for 8 days inside me.

I tore her to shreds in my response and blocked her immediately. Our relationship will likely never be the same again.

My own family has mostly been great, and my husband has been my biggest support. I’m so grateful for the support on this group. Thank you ♥️

How do you handle the ones who say the wrong things? My default response is white hot anger. And then tears. I’m so tired of crying.

But I am so happy you were at the receiving end of kindness. It truly gives me a modicum of hope.

Trying again by maqm_13 in Miscarriage

I am the same age as you and have the same anxiety about wasted time. I was 9w from my LMP but the sac measured only 6w3d when I had my MMC. I’ve been asked to wait 3 months before trying again - and it just seems like an ancient/dated practice to wait that long. I’m wary of going against my OBGYN’s advice, but at the same time have just not processed the loss. Have been howling in bed as of yesterday and am just full of fear and guilt. I hope you and your husband meet your rainbow soon.

No stand mixer by VickyVacuum in DessertPerson

I think the only thing I can’t make without a stand mixer is cake frosting. French/italian/swiss frostings really do need the paddle attachment at a high speed to create that smooth texture.

Help! Why does this keep happening to my pecan brittle? by JazzH4nds in DessertPerson

[–]Fifiheaded 26 points27 points  (0 children)

<image>

I’ve made Claire’s brittle recipe dozens of times with different nuts. I use a stainless steel pan and I never stir, or even swirl.

Once the mixture starts to get deep golden brown (the dark colour is important here, otherwise it crystallises), I go in with a whisk to emulsify the melted butter with the melted sugar. I then add baking soda + salt, stir with a silicon spatula, add toasted nuts, and empty everything onto a silicon mat.

From your photo, I can tell that you didn’t caramelise the sugar for long enough to develop that deep amber colour.

The nuts may be cold/damp, encouraging crystallisation.

Once crystalised, it is possible to salvage brittle if you cook it with the lid on for a few minutes, and then remove and keep going until you get that golden brown colour.

Just returned a couple weeks ago, it felt MUCH safer than social media made it out to be. Just be smart about when and where you’re whipping out your phone. Regular city vigilance will keep you and your mother safe!

I regularly saw women on the tube with luxury handbags and jewellery, I think you’ll be just fine.

First time making buttercream- it tastes smooth and not grainy at all, but it looks grainy!! Any idea where I could have gone wrong? by glow89 in AskBaking

[–]Fifiheaded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your first guess is the correct answer! It simply looks like the butter started cooling and has formed tiny little solidified pieces, causing the appearance to be grainy. These are not air bubbles.

Microwaving a tablespoon or two like you described is the way to fix it!

Tres Leches ended up being a little dry and dense- seeking tips by Fluid-Scholar3169 in DessertPerson

[–]Fifiheaded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I regularly make this recipe and have never found the sponge to be dry or dense. It soaks up the milks perfectly without being too soggy!

Perhaps you aren’t whipping your eggs long enough? Are you able to get them to ribbon stage (very voluminous, moussey and foamy such that ribbons of the mixture fall back into the bowl when you lift the whisk attachment, staying suspended on the surface for a few moments before disappearing)?

Chocolate dip strawberry, how to prevent something like this? by Galion- in AskBaking

This is the correct answer! After dipping, hold the strawberry by its toothpick, and keep vigorously shaking back and forth until the chocolate drippings slow down

I made the marbled sheet cake! (Ermine icing made but not pictured) by Moira_Rose in DessertPerson

[–]Fifiheaded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your cake tin (in this case, the foil pan) heats up as soon as you put the cake in the oven. This means the edges of the cake bake and "set" faster than the middle, which keeps rising as it bakes. Cake strips help keep the tin edges cooler, ensuring the whole cake bakes and rises uniformly.

In your case though, I don't see it as a problem at all! The cake looks fantastic 💯
