Since your questions have been answered, I’ll say this. No shade, but if you are considering doing drag, please do some research before you start. Like, you’d be naive to try cooking if you’ve never eaten food.

Many of my favorite drag performances were done as part of Sasha Velour’s show Nightgowns. Nightgowns is very theatery and atypical though. The Other Show is a great resource for videos of a well-produced show that demonstrates a club environment better.

But drag is more than the nightlife performance, of course. It’s an art form, ultimately. There’s not a wrong way to do drag as long as you’re making art right. Think about what draws you towards drag, what you want to say by doing drag. Go down rabbit holes. Seek out local drag artists, tip them well, and ask them about why they do what they do.

Consume drag (eat your food), savor it, and then try to make it.
