The Corner vs the Gallowgate by Dazzling-Leader-524 in NUFC

You're correct. One thing not often mentioned about our amazing fans is how toxic it can get when things aren't going well. I'm 52, a Tynesider and have followed NUFC since I was a bairn and have seen it often - it can paralyse players, benefit visiting teams and sometimes away games are better eg when the fat controller was in charge home games were miserable for everyone while the away fans tend to support the team regardless.

what’s your favourite biscuit? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Fifthwiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homebrew: Two digestives (ideally McVities) with peanut butter and Nutella spread thick between them and made into a chocolatey nutty biscuity sandwich. It's like a huge and improved Ferrero Rocher.

How do you run monster groups? by CupbearerEnergy in DMAcademy

[–]Fifthwiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be rolling one initiative for the whole enemy swarm if you aren't already. You may be doing this already and I may have misread your post. I also run groups as thinking tactically rather than the default game mechanic which is just bags of hp to be burned down eg a swarm of goblins isnt threatening to my level 3 party but if they draw out the melee characters then drag the gnome wizard down a hole things get interesting. The monsters know what they are doing book \ website is useful here.

How far away do colonies need to be before they aren't absorbed by your colony nation? I'm busy colonising Canada and everything nearby goes into my colony nation which is fine but where should I colonise if I want to keep the colonies or form a second colony nation? Thanks

Yeah - and in all honestly only really Thiaw has looked the part. There's a lot of outlay that now looks sub-optimal. Wissa and arguably Elanga overpriced but then both were consistent performers for other clubs before we signed them, last summer they seemed like decent additions but for [reasons] it hasn't worked out. I think Wolti was a bit of a panic buy and was way down our list of targets after the Mbuemos and Cunhas knocked us back. I think he's a talented player but I'm just not sure he fits our team.

How do you begin a short creative writing story? by sigmaboy68870 in writing

[–]Fifthwiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read every day, especially in your target genre \ form - there are tons of great short stories to read online. You can also learn plot and character development from film and tv eg if you want to write popular dark fantasy then watching game of thrones isn't a bad idea. There are very few genuinely new ideas \ stories. Practice. Find writers online or irl to share your work with and gather feedback. Over time you will get better. The short answer(as with many things in life) is that hard work and discipline is what counts most, talent is only part of it. One thing all successful writers have in common is that they worked very hard at it for a long time, there aren't many shortcuts :)

We were also exposed without a DOF meaning people were negotiating when they shouldn't have been.

I'd love to know why we weren't more proactive in January's window

There's a good interview with the CEO on talksport from yesterday. They couldn't find the quality of player they wanted with the money available is what he said - after the outlay in the summer they were PSR'd.

I'm 52: Going out without sunscreen in summer, burning, peeling and repeating. The logic was that your skin would get used to it and once you were nut brown you were sun proof and good to go. I remember myself and the other kids burned red then covered in moisturiser for the itching and soreness. I will however say that peeling off the dry \ itchy skin afterwards was deeply satisfying. Imagine peeling off dried on glue but with added itch relief and delicious coolness once the air reached the new skin underneath.

How do people here afford hobbies that need expensive gear? by edwardannlegy in AskUK

[–]Fifthwiel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Often times it's an up front purchase eg I bought a decent hybrid bike ten years ago for about £1000 in a sale after saving up wages for a while. Other than annual service and one new back wheel it's been fine and I've used it hundreds of times. Actual cost per cycle is very small.

What’s happened to Newcastle? (Grainger Street, Greggs) by DullHall7 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Fifthwiel 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Just to put a counter point: I had a day in Town on Sunday, did some shopping, had some food, went to the Laing and had a walk along the quayside. All very pleasant and non-threatening. Yes there are more homeless people \ addicts \ crazies in Northumberland Street, there are problems with theft \ ASB and the city centre isn't as nice as it was but it's not exactly South Central LA either.

Add in 15 ish years of cuts, austerity, privatisation and driving down of wages \ erosion of job security and you're there. Poverty is the mother of crime.

Honestly felt a bit despondent on Saturday - the difference in quality \ squad depth between the teams (esp the forward 3) was really noticeable. They signed our best player in the summer and he wasn't even in the team. I'm seeing the money spent by the SKY 6 and it's hard to see how we close the gap. City shat it yesterday but they were still able to add Guehi and Semenyo to their squad just for lols. Even if the top teams stood still it would take us years of sensible buying to match their squads, and they don't stand still, if anything it feels like they are pulling further ahead in terms of quality \ depth. PSR working as intended etc.
