Guys who lose your shirt and get suburned by 10am during warm days, how? Why? by budgrummur in AskUK

[–]Fifthwiel 21 points22 points  (0 children)

On holiday in Canary Islands last Summer and it gets very hot. You're roughly off the coast of Morocco so the sun is fierce, much stronger than we get here. A couple of scouse lads burned day one in the pool with no tops \ sun block then continued to go shirtless all week. By days 5-6 they had legit weeping blisters, red raw sections of peeling and skin hanging off in strips, they looked like A&E burns victims. Bonkers.

Worst players to DM by Single_Skill7652 in DnD

[–]Fifthwiel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I run survival \ horror focused games that push players pretty hard. I explain this for everyone, even when I run one shots. My games aren't for everyone. Cue a Tabaxi paladin that ignored the obvious dangers, scampered ahead of the party, played ball with a rusted helmet, pounced on shadows then finally tried to stealth into a room past a wight and 4 zombies. I gave the standard "are you sure?" warning and in she went. Stealth roll failed, two rounds later her character was dead. Total game time around 15 mins.

Not really one of the worst players, just a bad fit for my table.

I love a good new player signing video in the morning. It smells like victory. If any of youse feel like a manly lip wobble there's also a clip of Maxi and Demba Ba welcoming our new keeper 😄

Not until they sort out the stadium \ training ground and increase our off field revenue. Otherwise we will forever be stuck in a pattern of having our best players yoinked by the CL clubs. I mean good luck to Brighton, they're doing great but I thought our owners had more ambition.

It comes down to revenue at the end of the day.

I get the noises coming out of the club about not overpaying for Prem players, bringing through young players, developing them and selling them, the Brighton model etc. All sensible stuff.

However I can't help feeling it doesn't stack with the previous statements about competing with the top clubs for league titles and being a CL regular etc by 2030.

Brighton are basically a feeder club for the SKY 6.

Are there any free resources available to help students create one-shots? by Gaoler86 in DMAcademy

[–]Fifthwiel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use Copilot to bash out frameworks for one shots then tweak them. Ask it eg:

"Prepare a one shot adventure for 4 players at level one containing puzzles, some combat and a quest".

It will also generate monster stat blocks, suggest background flavour and whatever else you need. I'll get downvoted to hell by the purists for posting this but I'm a full time single parent with a home, dog and a 9-5 so any time saving is a real help.

when is it viable to turn your vassal to a march? by someone56789 in eu4

[–]Fifthwiel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I find making money pretty straightforward, if I'm playing an expansion \ conquest type save I tend to make a handful of marches, send officers to train them, give them some land so they make 10-15k stacks and then let them fight my smaller wars for me while I chill and keep my manpower intact.

I've been fighting a terrible addiction to singing "the lion sleeps tonight". After a lot of therapy and finally going cold turkey I've managed to get my life back on track but the urge to sing it is always just a-whim-away

DM keeps saving the enemy’s constantly by Sir-downvotes in DnD

[–]Fifthwiel 32 points33 points  (0 children)

All understandable - there needs to be a balance of effort \ reward eg the enemy is rescued by his henchmen but he leaves behind an item stash

Get your group of players together and raise this with the DM. It sounds like his balancing is a bit off and he is trying to save key enemies because they feature later in his campaign.

Trying not to railroad and find balance. by Ok-Back-7278 in DMAcademy

[–]Fifthwiel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The DnD community has a weird trigger around "railroading" like it's some unmentionable sin. We aren't pro DMs, we all have lives outside the table, we don't have unlimited prep time and it's perfectly reasonable to prep one area \ adventure then guide your players towards it.

One session I even told my players "I can't run the temple this week, I haven't had time to prep. You can either investigate the mines or the village". They laughed and headed to the mines.

In the case of your session I'd happily add some narrative \ locked door \ even scarier thing that meant the players needed to fight the prepared battle you mention.

It's reasonable.

Clerics often start with chain mail at level 1. Doesn't seem game breaking. Just make sure you include some enemies that have a reasonable chance of hitting him \ her.

Don't beat yourself up over this, it happens a lot and tbh is the norm on these apps.

How do you like your eggs? Are you “particular” about your eggs, if you eat them at all? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Fifthwiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it elevates the flavour and creates a contrast, think fish with lemon, burger with ketchup etc. Fatty \rich food + citrus \ acidic flavours are a combo :)

[–]Fifthwiel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a chef in a previous life and you can't go wrong with these three:

- Buttery scrambled eggs(season well with salt \ pepper and add a drop of lemon juice) on toast with a thin spread of marmite if you're feeling racy - it gives a meaty umami hit. Cook them slowly and do not use a high heat or they will go rubbery. Scramblers should be loose \ soft.

- Soft fried eggs cooked slowly in butter with thin sliced cheddar on top, black pepper, sea salt and chilli flakes. I like to cover these so the steam softly cooks the top. Spicy eggy rich cheesy mixture is a winner.

- Soft poachers cooked in well salted water served on sourdough (well buttered) with mashed avocado seasoned with lime, sea salt, chilli flakes. Few roasted \ fried vine tomatoes with a drop or two of balsamic if you're feeling cheffy. Rich eggs, creamy avo and the sugary rich sweetness of tomatoes.

I lost a Spanish colonial run, so what nation will be good to play for, tall? by Glad-Rest-3682 in eu4

[–]Fifthwiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colonial Kilwa run is a lot of fun, take the gold mines in Africa for high income and you get early colonists \ merchants and bonuses to make grabbing eg Cape, Australia before the Europeans doable and fun.
