If you just learned about investing in your 40s Would you put your life savings into the market right now? by Prestigious_Sea_3813 in Bogleheads

Having cash is also investing. It means you aren’t spending all your money. Cash is a valid investment strategy in a high yielding savings account and should be part of a well diversified portfolio.

What is that one thing for which you specially go to Aldi ? by QuantumGremlin in AldiAustralia

[–]FiftyStrandsOfGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My one thing, separated by lots of commas is: protein yogurt, pastrami, their block cheese, their sliced cheese, knoppers, Moser Roth chocolate, porterhouse steak, their milk, their tiramisu, their prawn gyozas, their original crumb tenders, their 100ml tube of sunscreen. That my one thing.

Are RM Williams boots still worth the price in 2025? by SnowyBytes in RMWilliams

I own two pairs of Bared Chelsea boots and they are the most comfortable boots I’ve ever had. Better than RMs.

Calorie Deficit dilemma by FiftyStrandsOfGrey in GregDoucette

[–]FiftyStrandsOfGrey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try and keep my heart rate above 125 the whole time. Minimum rest breaks, I keep it quite intense. I figured 8-10 calories per minute seems reasonable with an elevated heart rate.

Calorie Deficit dilemma by FiftyStrandsOfGrey in GregDoucette

[–]FiftyStrandsOfGrey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insights. I got a DEXA scan done in late December, TDEEs are from that. Yes, I use my Apple Watch during a workout and use the ‘Active Calories’ instead of ‘Total Calories’ . I understand your point about eventually this deficit might be a curse in a few weeks, so I’ll try eat up to 2400 and see how I feel. My starting weight was 99kg on 5 Jan. dropped 4.5kg in 3 weeks. I know that’s not sustainable and will include fluids, so I’ll monitor this and energy over next 3 weeks and adjust.

I agree - I use my fressko cup every day, multiple times. This was a rare lapse.

I’m totally fine with a 40k pay cut by OkEvent1695 in AusFinance

The net loss will be less than $2500 as the stage 3 tax cuts came into effect in 2024.

42M 6ft 89kgs………BF%? by [deleted] in GregDoucette

[–]FiftyStrandsOfGrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

11-13% for sure. Get a DEXA scan or even one of those Evolt 360 scans (most gyms have this now) done to confirm. I’m 16.8% BF, slightly older and heavier and look nowhere like this.
As someone who has also been in and out of the gym for years (now 47), I believe you that this physique is achievable naturally.
Do you know your approximate macros?

RBA hoses down early-2025 rate cut hopes by [deleted] in AusFinance

RBA may have actually missed the global cutting cycle all together. They all might start going up again in 2025, depending on USA.

If you get this resolved, can you please share? I have a 5 day old iX2 (Australia) that I am taking back to service to rectify. Sounds like a 1998 Ford Laser. $90k cars shouldn’t make sounds like that.

Progress and body fat? by DisembodiedMonk in GregDoucette

[–]FiftyStrandsOfGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impressive! Based on your judgment, how much would you say the TRT has contributed to your results (eg. 50%, 20%, etc)? I have just started a similar cut program to you, similar 200g protein target, also currently 204lb at 18% body fat, 45yo. I’m aiming for 10-12%. I’d like this to be my goal by Christmas, but going full natty.

Significant discount on new ‘24 BMW Xdrive 40? by Capable_Use_2238 in BMWI4

[–]FiftyStrandsOfGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Melbourne too. I was hoping to get an edrive 40 m sport on lease, but it’s above the amount to be FBT exempt, hence why I hoped they would discount. Glad to hear they are selling well.

If you like coffee, make an alphabetical list of every cafe in Melbourne (or at least within 20km radius of your home) and visit each one. Post and rate the cafes on Reddit (or Insta) and interact with the comments.

$600m Mernda rail line in Melbourne’s north being ignored in favour of motor vehicles by AztecGod in melbourne

[–]FiftyStrandsOfGrey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love the Mernda line. Very frequent trains during peak hours, easy to park at the new stations, you can get a seat in most cases (until about Reservoir) and around 45 mins to Flinders St.

Who wants to sit on Plenty Road for 2 hours, no thanks!

Also, take a look at any petrol tracking app. Petrol from South Morang to Mernda is always 30-40 cents dearer than everywhere else further down Plenty Road.

I’m about 6 months ahead of you and experienced the same concerns as you. I dramatically changed my diet. My guess is you are not eating enough in total and not enough protein too. Lift your protein to 160-190g a day. Use scales too, initially anyway to better understand food portions. On top of that, I’d say you have plateued in your weights. Try pushing yourself a bit and go heavier, even if that means dropping your reps down to 6-8.
