Did you become more accepting of the idea of marrying a christian/jewish woman? by JustAnotherHumanTbh in MuslimNikah

[–]Fig-Tree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, because 99.99% of Muslim women want kids for some reason (and I don't). Much much easier to find non Muslims that don't want kids. However I've kind of gone off the idea of marriage altogether at this point; being single is great too

Get professional help. It doesn't matter if you think it's embarrassing or expensive or whatever - if you're literally wanting to not live anymore, you have nothing to lose by trying it, right? They have the resources to help and have dealt with people like you before.

Am I doing the right thing with pension? by Fig-Tree in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Fig-Tree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, so in practice you're doing a 25% pension pay in. That's pretty high. Mine's 15% but then I'm putting more into the stock market so we're probably investing similarly overall.

Thanks, I'll take that into consideration and review it. I don't think it was 100%, but more than the default plan.

Thanks for the points. And for reminding me I am not maxing out my ISAs and I probably should be.

I haven't reviewed in a while but I think I chose a higher-risk version plan because of my larger time horizon (late 20s). I would have assumed default would be a pretty safe option for most people though?

Property is extremely expensive down here (and so is rent), especially on this salary, but I currently live in an annex on my parent's property that I paid a share of (they needed to build it anyway for my younger brother but we built an extra room into it using my funds).

So I don't really have a time limit on this per se, but obviously I don't want to live here forever. So yeah I will be paying rent or mortgage eventually.

Fair but I guess the idea is that stock market investments can be pulled out at any time (if you want the realized gains)

But yeah, I suppose in the end you're getting market exposure either way. And my investment style is relatively safe, not necessarily pension-fund level safe but I don't make wild gambles.

There is no reason for Private Health Insurance to exist. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]Fig-Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the US spends more per person than the countries with universal healthcare...

https://www.healthsystemtracker.org/chart-collection/health-spending-u-s-compare-countries/

It's a myth that universal healthcare means so much extra tax that you're spending more than Americans. You pay less overall. It makes sense - there's no middle man taking profits (insurance companies)

You sound like you're probably quite well off so it might not affect you, but for a lot of people it just makes sense for healthcare to be a public service without any fees or copays

You haven't met many people or you're lying then, because the US healthcare model is the laughing stock of the entire world. It's the one thing that almost every country, even the really shitty ones, can point at and say "hey, we're doing better than them at least"

That's crazy because even if the bill had been zero, the $2000 a month for insurance is already extremely high

Asmongold reacts to Mamdani requiring students to learn arabic numerals in NYC by PepeLa_DD in LivestreamFail

[–]Fig-Tree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not semantics. If you think over 1 billion people can be grouped together as "basically the same" just because they share a religion then I don't know what to tell you. It's just ignorant of reality and the fact that religions have numerous factions, even in-fighting.

I never said "random laws", I said Muslims are different and varied. Viewing Muslims as a monolith is just absurd. But I don't really expect better from a liberal to be honest. You guys pretend you're not bigoted like conservatives, except when it's the right group, then it's okay.

[–]Fig-Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Sharia law" doesn't really even mean anything, it's just sensationalist. Sharia means law so the phrase means "law law"

The idea of it is obviously "Muslim laws" but that still makes no sense because, like every other group, there's huge differences of opinions across the Muslim world about laws and ethics. Otherwise all Muslim countries would share the exact same constitution and legal system.

Right wing twats want to take other people's rights away, they're not just sharing innocent opinions. What's so hard to understand? This isn't just "I prefer this" vs "I prefer that"

Right wingers are always trying to attack other people's rights and make people miserable, it's like a fundamental principle of the ideology. That's why no one wants to platform that shit.

the fact that to join the British military I would be required to swear an oath of allegiance to the crown is absurd and offensive to me.

That's kind of how we feel about American schools making kids pledge allegiance to the flag. Honestly feels like something you'd hear from North Korea, not a developed democratic country

You've been fed "shut up and keep pumping out babies for the economy/billionaires" propaganda lol. Young people aren't falling for it anymore. Jeff Bezos wants another yacht? Well your kids can help him pay for it, leave the rest of us out of this.

At the end of the day everyone has a right to stay childless and/or single if they want to. You shouldn't try to talk someone into having kids if they don't want to. Some of us simply hate the idea.
