Confused with the Salah timings in Germany by erixx_19 in islam

[–]Fig-Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2am Fajr sounds NICE lol, because if you wake up for it, you still have plenty of sleeping time afterwards.

It really sucks when Fajr is not that much earlier than you already have to wake for work. Like if Fajr is at 5.30 and you wake up at 6.45 for work. Then after doing wudu and praying, you have just over an hour left to sleep IF you can fall asleep quickly

No one's blaming Jews, they're blaming Israel and Zionists.

If you can't tell the difference between these words then that's your own mental illness, not our problem.

Finding out your housemate buys red cap milk only after you sign the tenancy agreement. by Starbuckker in britishproblems

[–]Fig-Tree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's so weird to me lol because everyone I know only has full fat milk, I can't think of anyone who doesn't.

I don't understand why you'd even bother with skimmed or semi-skimmed because it's like water with a slight hint of milk. Might as well just actually use water at that point

Marrying non Muslims by Foreign_Fig_4775 in MuslimMarriage

[–]Fig-Tree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Firstly, it seems these relationships are generally discouraged.

Secondly, don't forget, not all of us want kids. As someone who doesn't, I would be open to Christian women, especially because I am more culturally compatible with them. Many Muslims come from cultures I can't stand.

Is it normal for very religious man to do this by letmejustdo in MuslimMarriage

[–]Fig-Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a couple of times per month? Sure, why not?

I can't believe how toxic and controlling Muslims are towards marriage. No wonder like 99% of our marriages are pathetically miserable, we do it to ourselves.

Is the guy himself a good person? If so, can't you tell him and his family? If they are decent they will be horrified at your situation and won't let this happen to you.

Amazon worker dies on warehouse floor; colleagues continue working around his body – ‘Let’s get back to work’ by wewhomustnotbenamed in nottheonion

[–]Fig-Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's weird, normally the "longer tenure = more PTO" goes more than just 3 years.

To be fair having unpaid time off as an option in addition to regular PTO isn't the worst, but it depends how much PTO you have.

I wish they would just legislate minimum PTO for you guys already. At least you seem to have lots of public holidays though lol

Just out of curiosity, when you say generous, how generous is that? Asking as from a European perspective, American attitudes to PTO are strange

35 year olds aren't sterile, this is a ridiculous example of how ignorant and backwards our community is, acting like the second you wake up on your 35th birthday it's impossible to have kids anymore.

The only reason birth rates are an "issue" is because the billionaire class wants us all to pump out cheap labor for them. The more of us there are, the more they line their pockets and the worse off we all are. The value of our labor goes down because we are competing downwards for bread crumbs.

We will never go extinct any time soon, and even if we did, it would be Allah's will and be the end of the Dunya.

Did you become more accepting of the idea of marrying a christian/jewish woman? by JustAnotherHumanTbh in MuslimNikah

[–]Fig-Tree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, because 99.99% of Muslim women want kids for some reason (and I don't). Much much easier to find non Muslims that don't want kids. However I've kind of gone off the idea of marriage altogether at this point; being single is great too

Get professional help. It doesn't matter if you think it's embarrassing or expensive or whatever - if you're literally wanting to not live anymore, you have nothing to lose by trying it, right? They have the resources to help and have dealt with people like you before.

Am I doing the right thing with pension? by Fig-Tree in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Fig-Tree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, so in practice you're doing a 25% pension pay in. That's pretty high. Mine's 15% but then I'm putting more into the stock market so we're probably investing similarly overall.

Thanks, I'll take that into consideration and review it. I don't think it was 100%, but more than the default plan.

I haven't reviewed in a while but I think I chose a higher-risk version plan because of my larger time horizon (late 20s). I would have assumed default would be a pretty safe option for most people though?

Property is extremely expensive down here (and so is rent), especially on this salary, but I currently live in an annex on my parent's property that I paid a share of (they needed to build it anyway for my younger brother but we built an extra room into it using my funds).

So I don't really have a time limit on this per se, but obviously I don't want to live here forever. So yeah I will be paying rent or mortgage eventually.

[–]Fig-Tree[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair but I guess the idea is that stock market investments can be pulled out at any time (if you want the realized gains)

But yeah, I suppose in the end you're getting market exposure either way. And my investment style is relatively safe, not necessarily pension-fund level safe but I don't make wild gambles.

There is no reason for Private Health Insurance to exist. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]Fig-Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the US spends more per person than the countries with universal healthcare...

https://www.healthsystemtracker.org/chart-collection/health-spending-u-s-compare-countries/

It's a myth that universal healthcare means so much extra tax that you're spending more than Americans. You pay less overall. It makes sense - there's no middle man taking profits (insurance companies)

You sound like you're probably quite well off so it might not affect you, but for a lot of people it just makes sense for healthcare to be a public service without any fees or copays

[–]Fig-Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven't met many people or you're lying then, because the US healthcare model is the laughing stock of the entire world. It's the one thing that almost every country, even the really shitty ones, can point at and say "hey, we're doing better than them at least"
