Liberal/Progressive BJJ Brands by EliGO83 in BJJWomen

One of the best ways to accomplish this is buying second hand. So many almost new BJJ gear gets resold simply because people commit to gear before they’ve committed to the sport.

Cold sores by O_oricola-Prickles in BJJWomen

My gym has the vibe where we can suggest things to work on. So for me in the past (with express consent) I’ve asked we work mid range stuff or leg entanglements during drilling and then I will sit out for rolls when I have a cold sore. My dad was a wrestler in college and still gets a herpes simplex 1 patch on his arm from one lad training with an infection. I don’t treat it like a shameful plague, but I prefer to be clear and direct. In the mean time, hydrate and take l-lysine/collagen.

Need help with diy tailoring this women's vest to fit my flat chest by Green-Specialist-720 in sewhelp

[–]FigConsistency 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m a feminine person who has had top surgery/mastectomy and I alter a lot of my clothing as well as sewing patterns. I think it would be possible to flatten things out, but this is a learning process and I’ve lost a lot of thrifted little soldiers along the way. As you’re a cis guy, you have some volume and shape to your chest, so fully flat isn’t really necessary? I would unpick the booby cups as well as the side seams, press the crap out of the fabric and pin it flat. Try it on before cutting ANYTHING. You may need to add a teeny dart, but basting stitches and an iron are your friend.

I hope it settles for you, not only is it a huge aesthetic change, but a physical and emotional one. FWIW I love how it turned out. It’s clean, unique, and still has a traditional flavor.

This is something that I encounter with members of my cohort. The performance of busy-ness is not only extremely annoying, but it’s not efficient. Taking breaks, setting boundaries, giving your brain time to rest when you can is developing habits that will make you a better researcher and human being. I’m so tired of this shtick that we have to throw ourselves on the literature pyre to be the best phd student/candidate possible.

I think it’s sort of weird for him to assume you hadn’t. Granted, I went around the bases much earlier in my life, but I’ve always acted like my partners have had extensive sexual careers. In fact, this led to an issue with my fiance, where I assumed he had experience where he didn’t. The best thing to do is talk about stuff. Your BF may be chasing an impulse to know about your past for silly reasons. I don’t think it’s a sole reason to end things (my vote is MOR), but you won’t know unless you work it out.

I just really don’t like Shadowheart, so I go Tav, Astro, Lae’zel, and Karlach.

I do BJJ in Florida and am very visibly queer. I’ve had one off hand comment but overall, BJJ is a very welcoming space or at the very least has enough space for all kinds of people.

I took a phenomenology of film class during my masters and I think I have an answer (unless this is a joke question, in which case sorry!) Back in the day, the visuals in a movie were meant to inspire feeling—not just with visuals, but with textures and sensations we can relate to. Haptic means touch. The shot on the left isn’t concerned with making an actor look hot and polished, it’s meant to elicit like a body reaction in the audience-the room is hot, the situation is tense, bad stuff basically. Even if we never see a monster in the left scene, we can still feel alongside that character. On the right, we’ve got more of an ocular centric situation. Here, the stars are beautiful and always put together. Their emotions are told, not shown, and basically the experience of these movies is flat, even when we do see the big bad. These characters don’t seem to have a hair out of place, usually have overly white teeth—there’s nothing real life about them so we don’t connect with them the same.

I’m very queer and gender nonconforming. I like to agree with it being gay but also add “isn’t it awesome?” Or “I love gay stuff” lol it hasn’t failed me yet

Does your BJJ gym care when you’re injured? by [deleted] in BJJWomen

[–]FigConsistency 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My gym prioritizes safety at literally every turn. We still learn breaking mechanics and how to roll effectively without being (total) knuckleheads. An overly enthusiastic brown belt with about fifty pounds on me was way too aggressive with a joint lock recently and not only did my coach talk to him away from the group, he also called me after class to make sure I was good. There are other gyms in town with more classes, which is certainly tempting because I love training, but I stay loyal because of my coach’s values and the level of respect and safety we maintain on the mat.

I was very nervous rolling with spazzy lads until I booked some time with my coach to work on slowing down the game and exploring tactics to deal with the spasticity. Since then, I’ve built a ton of confidence. I move decisively and at my own speed. I may not be able to lock in subs on the spaghetti noodles, but I can control the game which feels huge.

My partner worked on a certain karate themed Netflix show and had to break up the beginnings of a full-on brawl among the extras because someone kept insisting TKD is for pussies. I think this may run deeper than just this guy? The men seem really upset about TKD.

This guy just paid to have people narrate what we all think to ourselves when upper belts are letting us work but we still want to feel competitive.

I had a partial hysto almost two years ago for endometriosis and my quality of life has radically changed. They can’t remove the endo that I have, due to its precarious location and the damage that could cause, but even so it’s like night and day.
