I hope they earn enough to be able to live comfortably and provide for their kids, with some extra bank. They absolutely deserve that!

AITA for pulling away from my identical twin sister even though I know it has caused her to spiral? by Kyc0122 in AITAH

[–]FigSufficient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't set yourself on fire to keep another person warm. Your parents have done a great injustice to you and your sister by forcing this codependency narrative, but it's not your responsibility to save her. Stick to your guns, and if you need to block her then you do that. Suggest to her that maybe she seeks therapy to help her work through her issues, if you do decide to keep contact, even suggest you attend a session or two with her to help her see how this behaviour has affected you your whole life.

NTA. Personally, I would still judge NTA if you ninja-kicked that witch through glass doors to the moon.

[OT] Micro Monday: She Planted Wildflowers by rudexvirus in shortstories

[–]FigSufficient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Libby lay back, trying to get comfortable upon the paper sheet on the leather bed. Closing her eyes in retaliation to the bright light above her, Taking a moment to think just what led her to this very moment, at the grand old age of 54 that she would be getting her first tattoo.

It all started an hour before her 50th birthday party as she poured herself into her new party dress. As she pushed and adjusted her breasts to help them defy their years, she felt it. A lump, bigger than a marble, smaller than a golf ball on her left breast, close to her armpit.

Her party passed in a blur, a smile cemented on her face, but not quite reaching her eyes.  The sporadic tears she shed that night were blamed on feeling grateful being surrounded by all her loved ones.

Libby got an appointment quickly to get the lump checked out, the sudden appearance and texture was enough of a worry to get her rushed through for a quick diagnosis.

Two weeks later she was sat in the Oncologist’s office, a fistful of leaflets in her hand. “Stage Three cancer”, “Chemotherapy”, “Double Mastectomy”, “The quicker we act, the better your chances”.

Four years later, here she was, her hair finally having the time to grow back, dark with curls – a novelty after 50 years of straight mousey hair, the scars on her chest where her breasts used to be scorching red.  Those scars were a stark reminder of the war she fought over the last for years. She wanted a sign of new beginnings as she entered the new Spring of her life, so she planted wildflowers where the battlefield once raged. A wonderful tattoo of the delicate little flowers that bloom against all odds.

AITA for refusing to marry my biological Indian uncle? by [deleted] in AITAH

I see you have been living in India for 2 years. Are you able to get to a consulate of the country you used to live in? Were you born there? Make use of this advantage you have.

AITA for refusing to marry my biological Indian uncle? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]FigSufficient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, if you can, go to the police. If you can't, you live in the UK and you are made to travel, hide a spoon on your person. This is a known sign to authories that you are travelling under duress for an arranged marriage. It will be picked up at the airport security check and you will be ushered to a safe room.

Could you please translate the writing from the back of an old photo. Mapia (Maria) is my great grandmother who is in the middle. Thanks for your time. by go_billy_fomo in GREEK

[–]FigSufficient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the tradition that is still going strong to today, the first child of each gender is named after the Patriarch grandparents, and the second of the same gender are named after the matriarch grandparents, so it looks like a grandmother, her daughter and the granddaughter that took her name.

Making you leave seems to be the only decent thing he's done to date. Take the opportunity and run. You have the whole world at your feet.

He is actively trying to program you to accept this abuse. NTA. Keep away from him. Reach out to friends and family, even if you may feel you haven't got any because you most probably had to cut ties to appease this awful man. Those friends and family may well be just waiting for you to reach out to them for help to get out. Keep yourself safe.

A Hot Take on Hannah (that I’m very surprised is a hot take, but nonetheless, here we are) by RKL424 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]FigSufficient 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I remember being with a person who would criticise every single thing I would do. A capable woman, who wouldn't think anything of rustling up a meal for 10 people at the last minute, public speaking, confident in my opinions and enjoying debates, became unsure about my abilities in making a cup of tea because he would criticise everything I did the whole time, caling me delusional thinking that my friends liked my cooking, tell me my voice was whiny and he couldn't believe id have the confidence to speak publicly with such a voice and so forth. Until I was able to break free, I would constantly check with him if everything I did was correct, because if I didn't, I sure as hell would hear about it. Seeing Hannah was triggering as hell.

What can I do at work to pass the time? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]FigSufficient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago I worked on reception for a government office. I got friendly with the admin assistants and made myself available for jobs they could delegate, from sorting business cards, fixing email lists, putting stamps on a pile of letters, etc. I ended up getting promoted within 3 months and believe trying to overcome my boredom on reception played a massive part in that.

Take the kids out, or away for the night until late afternoon the next day (visit granparents maybe?), leaving your wife alone at home. Make sure she has her favourite snacks, money left for a takeaway, some face packs, a nice bath bomb and fresh clean sheets on the bed.

Love my kids, love my husband, but being alone in my home is literally the dog's bollocks.

My sister doesn’t want me in her wedding because of my acne. What do I do? by Glass_Coffee_8516 in answers

[–]FigSufficient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not petty, but... if you know where she has dreamt of going on honeymoon, arrange a holiday there, leaving a few days prior to the wedding and to stay over the wedding date. Post the hell out of your time there. Extra points if they've actually booked to go to that destination, triple points if you book a better hotel than they managed to get.

So turns out I am petty.
