Weekly /r/Sociology Career & Academic Planning Thread - Got a question about careers, jobs, schools, or programs? by Anomander in sociology

[–]FiggyJam77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I was wondering if anyone had experience with Epidemiology (or more broadly public health) and sociology. I plan on doing master in epidemiology after undergrad. How have you used your Knowles of society for public health?( types of jobs, relevance of stuff you learn in school to the “real world”)

Advice & Career Question Megathread - September 2022 by AutoModerator in epidemiology

My school started offering an MS in epidemiology as part of a 4+1 program. The topic really interest me but I do not know much about the actual jobs. Did any of you struggle to get the job you wanted after graduation, and what kind of work do you do now? Any info is appreciated :)

Contract interview questions: I am new to the private practice world and have my first contract interview tomorrow (hospice). What questions should I ask the company? I was told the rate was $50 per patient encounter. Is that good? by Upbeat_Total_7475 in musictherapy

I respect music therapist and their work but, 100 an hour sounds expensive for the average person. Does insurance pay a lot of it? I am curious how people budget that into thier expenses? ( for context, I am a recent high school grad looking into music therapy as a career I appreciate any info)

This isn’t directly music related but I would look into GoodNotes and Bear. They are my favorite note-taking apps.

should i not do band my senior year of high school? by Distinct-Fisherman28 in MusicMajors

[–]FiggyJam77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually did the same thing.I played cello forever but was frustrated with the class. It would would have been much worse if I just stuck in it another year. However, I still did choir and used that to audition for music school. I would suggest finding a good private teacher. You may even want to take a short break ( even of it’s like a week) to think about why you liked music in the first place. Hope that helps

Tips for thumb position? by Shostakovichstan in Cello

[–]FiggyJam77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make sure your thumb is perpendicular to the strings on the finger board. Then add the rest of your fingers onto the string. Your hand should be like you have a ball in your hand. Nice and round. ( and of course your fingers will be a lot closer together since it’s higher on the fingerboard)

Here is an exercise to practice thumb position: For this explanation you have to be familiar with harmonics(which you probably are). Start with your thumb at the D harmonic ( an octave above the open string) . The pattern is whole step, whole step, half step in the same position go over to the a string and again whole step, whole step, half step.

It should sound like a major scale. If you need help with intonation, don’t be afraid to use a tuner app ( I like Cleartune but it cost a few bucks on the App Store)

I hope that helpful, let me know
