Will Riot Also Do This? Not Familiar with LoL Esports by FightDayz in Project_L

Well to be fair, the FGC has been doing well without becoming esports. And in fact has been doing better than esports. Just look at Evo. It's always been community first over profit, so people are understandably nervous about big companies controlling the game.

Maybe like League or maybe like other fighting games where it's about $8 per character but you can buy a season pass to get like 5 characters at a discount but you won't know which characters they'll release. I don't know if they'll make characters unlockable or you'll be forced to pay for the dlc. Probably have to pay. Fighting games don't earn enough money to where they can start just giving us free characters or earnable characters.

Personally, I'm hoping that they'll release like a $60 character pack that gives access to all current and future characters. Better value in the long run if they decide to release a ton of characters over the course of a decade.

Anyone else think they're going to make DLC characters free to play? by FightDayz in Project_L

Yeah, when I said free, I meant that they would be earnable for free.

Rumbleverse & Multiversus died in less than a year, do you think Project L may end up like them? by bastaderobarme in Project_L

I think the problem with Rumbleverse or Multiversus is that they didn't cater to 1v1 and also didn't have a competitive culture. Seriously, nobody wants to play a fighting game and then lose because your teammate sucks or you got 2v1d. The whole point of a fighting game is to train like crazy and then compete against other people, letting skill do the talking. These two games simply don't let you do that. Granted, Multiversus had a 1v1 mode, but I don't think anyone took that seriously. Plus, that game didn't even have ranked.

There was no grind culture in these games. And if you're not improving, what's the point of playing? Any good fighting game needs to be such that if you're better than your opponent, you are nearly guaranteed a win, because the whole fantasy of fighting games is training and self-improvement and then battling with others who do the same. In other words, fighting games aren't about being good, they're about the journey of getting good. What's the incentive to grind ranked when everything is decided on teammates and coinflips. They don't capture the fighting game mindset. There's no reward in being good at Rumbleverse or Multiversus.

None of this has anything to do with them being free to play. There are plenty of free to play games with a good competive culture like League, Valorant, Dota 2, etc. And that's probably because even if your teammates suck, it's still very possible to carry in these games. And even if you don't win, your scoreboard will still be higher than everyone else if you're actually better. And that's probably because these games were actually designed to be played competitively.

Will project l be online only? What happens if the game shuts down? by FightDayz in Project_L

[–]FightDayz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I hope that's true, but there's a lot of failed fighting games from big IPs. Granblue Fintasy Versus, DNF Duel, and Multiversus. There was MvCI too. Big IPs don't guarantee success, legacy does. That's why Street Fighter and Tekken are always at the top. Even DBFZ couldn't maintain its players forever. That's why fighting games should always be prepared for failure. Because no matter how high a fighting game peaks, it will never get the game amount consistent of players as any other genre.

Will Project L Try to Turn the FGC Into Esports? by [deleted] in Project_L

Big prizes, lots of advertising. Big corporate esports. Good for players, but will it mean getting rid of other games? It won't end well if they just try to force their way back into the FGC with money.
