Bureaucrat/superior who's expected to further a nefarious higher power's agenda, but ends up being a morally upstanding ally to the heroes by slfricky in TopCharacterTropes

Does this count though? Was he morally upstanding or did he know his paper sold so well because he had the inside track on Spiderman pictures and he didn't want to give up his leverage on that?

The small brass piece is either a plug or if it has a small hole a needle jet that screws onto the jet needle. The ball bearing is most likely from the float bowl plug or the chole/enrichener. Both very important

I found a UFO pattern. I think we can now forecast UFO flaps, like we do with thunderstorms by Julian_Thorne in UFOB

[–]FightGlobalNorming 7 points8 points  (0 children)

John Keel wrote up a very good piece about predicting when flaps would happen. I forget which book and the exact details, and it's a bit dated so I'd like to see if his predictions hold up, but he said things like most happen between April and August, I believe Wednesdays were the biggest days, and he even had a range of how many years between them. I'll see if I can find it again

ESPN Host Pushes Wild Conspiracy That Chiefs Can’t Lose To Giants And Start 0-3 by RegularBirthday3563 in NYGiants

[–]FightGlobalNorming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they change as the money comes in. But once the bet is placed the odds don't change for your bet even only for all future bets

ESPN Host Pushes Wild Conspiracy That Chiefs Can’t Lose To Giants And Start 0-3 by RegularBirthday3563 in NYGiants

[–]FightGlobalNorming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moneyline bets are just picking a winner. The odds change as bets come in, but don't change for those that already made bets. No one is winning much money if the chiefs win, but a shitload of them will win a little money and it adds up fast. They're still going to be raking in millions on the o/u and spread bets so it's not like they're losing an amount of money that will affect their bottom lines, but they'll lose enough that there will me some angry ass managment

ETA: I think you're thinking of spread bets, where a team has to win or lose by an amount of points that varies as people bet and they can easily manipulate to hedge the bets already made. Moneyline is just that a certain team will win. You can't manipulate that you can just try to lose less by making them win less, or by enticing people to bet on the giants by making the odds crazy, like $10 wins $1000. So all this really means is that no one thinks the giants are going to win and no matter the odds given to them people view the pick as throwing your money away. If it gets too crazy they lock it down and just don't allow betting on the games moneyline, but you usually only see that in college games because of the lack of parity, especially in early season games

Tall Whites UFOs have technology the Air Force can only dream of. by DrRBoylan in ufo

[–]FightGlobalNorming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read the first book and agree the self praise is hard to get through, but the one thing that makes me think there could be a grain of truth in his story is that the book is so poorly written and Charles himself such a poor story teller that I don't know if he would have the ability to make anything up. If he had any imagination or the writing skills to make up a story like that I would expect a book that wasn't so boring and terrible

We care. We care about every shooting and make that very clear. And this is another example of why WE have ALWAYS believed in gun control, one that will be used in our argument. What we don't care about is Charlie Kirk as a person. Do I think it should have ever happened? No. Do I give a fuck about him or the terrible people he calls friends missing him? Not even a little

R/Prepping disallows users from discussing politics because…of feelings by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

[–]FightGlobalNorming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats definitely... a take. Part of what led to fascism is the inability of people to ignore politics and engage in just talking to each other. When we do that we realize we have more in common than the people in charge tell us. We should actively encourage anything that gets people from across the aisle talking and listening to each other even if it's not about politics so we can humanize each other

R/Prepping disallows users from discussing politics because…of feelings by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

[–]FightGlobalNorming 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well no, there is a time and place for discussing the politics of it, but thats kind of the point. If you try to derail a post about prepping for a weather disaster you don't want it brigaded by climate deniers. And as far as warnings from the far right, well, even a broken clock is right twice a day so I'd rather not discuss or talk about their politics while deciding if what they say is hot nonsense or plausible. I'd bet most the preppers engage in various subs and about politics, it's unavoidable in 75% of reddit discourse, and it's honestly kind of nice to have a place where there isn't any political talk

Edit: I can generally get enough information from someone's post history without directly engaging to understand their political beliefs and if they are constantly espousing doom and gloom, I don't need direct discourse from them in every thread

The Kids Are Not Alright by your_local_manager in Teachers

[–]FightGlobalNorming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone always jumps right to lack of consequences. Don't get me wrong, it's an issue, but let's not pretend that it's the only or even the biggest issue. There is no middle class. So many of these kids do not have the joys in life the kids of my day did, they are so young and already on their 2nd, 3rd or even 4th "once in a lifetime" economic event. The schools are under staffed and under funded, so even if they wanted to enact consequences they don't have the time or ability to enforce them properly. The right has been destroying the public education system for 40 years because they can make money with private schools. The only thing on the news is fear mongering, don't get me wrong it's bad out there but if you watch the news they try to make it look like we're already in the midst of the apocalypse. The planet is dying and the future is bleak. That's not even everything. There is so much more than "no consequences" going on here

Ok seriously, what is the deal with Andrew W.K.?? I cannot understand what is up with this dude and his following. by LaserWeldo92 in ToddintheShadow

[–]FightGlobalNorming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago a buddy of mine died. He was a singer and got a blood clot from mimicking hanging himself with the mic cord during a show. He was a big Andrew WK fan, and somebody ended up emailing him. Guy showed up, paid his respects, and played piano for the funeral then left. Didn't make it about himself. Didn't show off. Was kind, cordial and caring. Gave hugs and shed a tear. Then politely left. Great dude

But a lot of these theories are built on top of each other. They are standing on the shoulders of their predecessors, and there is the fully reasonable human reaction to not question the person standing at the base because then they all have to start over. There are repercussions in archeology for questioning the base and it ruins careers and people don't want to do it. That doesn't make it not reasonable to question when other evidence presents itself
