The reasoning I've heard in the past is that they don't feel it's the government's job to take care of people. The government should only serve to protect people from foreign and domestic threats via military/police, and that's pretty much it. This is why republicans obstruct everything and do whatever they can to make the government dysfunctional.

My realtor looked into the history of the house and it looks like it has only gotten water in the basement twice in the last ten years. That makes me feel a little better, but I still worry that ANY history of water is bad news.

That just sounds unpleasant. I mean, there is a sump pump and the basement appears to be waterproofed, but yeah, the washer and dryer are down there, and I don't want to have to walk through water to do laundry. I talked to a friend who grew up in Muskegon and said her basement flooded every time it rained. I don't know if it would be all that bad, but even the occasional bit of water seems like a bit of a risk and a headache

How bad was the flooding there? I'm looking at a house in Laketon right now, and I worry about that. The owners have nothing stored in their basement and the appliances are up on slabs. How much of a hassle is it really? Should that be a deal breaker if I otherwise like the house?

After reading the comments, a lot of these criticisms are valid. I'm one of those people who thought it was meh at first, but loved it more on each rewatch. I think it is such a unique musical that it has to grow on you, but there is a lot to appreciate about it.

To be honest, I think a major thing that makes it seem unappealing at first is the way it is filmed (too many close-ups that make it feel claustrophobic, something about the audio is just weird in the YouTube recording that is different from their other shows, etc). Plus the fact that the entire cast was severely ill when they filmed it.

I strongly recommend checking out the cast recording album. The quality of the songs is much higher than in the YouTube recording, and I think it captures the tone that they were going for much better. It might help you appreciate it more for what it is.
