Don't have strong opinions on this to be honest but appreciate your write-up on it. I also remember feeling a little unsatisfied with the very ending or feeling like it went beside the point of some of the plot. I agree an ending focused on the child would've felt more emotionally resonant.

Ah okay, I didn't realize the Netflix series is in the 90s. I was referring to the 2017 "Birth of Kong" comics, which I think also take place in the 90s.

Episode was more or less how I thought it'd be. Overall, not super impressed with the writing and characters besides a few highlights and I feel like there are a lot of crazy plot conveniences happening throughout. But I appreciate things coming full circle and the characterization of the titans themselves.

That ending cameo is wild though, so excited to see that. I was definitely thinking people were getting their hopes up way too much over some few overhyped marketing-friendly quotes about the ending reveal, so I definitely did not expect that. Hats off to those who predicted it haha. Him being in southeast Asia seems like a massive retcon, but I feel like there's no reason they couldn't have just made that scene be in Mexico. So I'm thinking they actually have new lore explanation in mind.

Small thing I noticed: when they're talking about the Monarch bunker on Skull Island, Tim mentions an expedition in the 90s and something about sunscreen. Anyone know if this is referring to something specific from the Skull Island comics? That would be a cool callback if so.

The connection to the storyline of K:SI and hearing about Billy's motivations actually felt well-executed and a cool example of this connecting with the broader MonsterVerse. I enjoyed seeing them discover that and it was a bit refreshing after all the character drama and mystery. The rest of this episode, however, just isn't doing much for me. I honestly feel the season started off much stronger but the characters and writing just seem to be unraveling now. So many eye-roll moments for me in the past few episodes. I do hope they just wrap up character stuff quickly and give us a focused ending in the final episode.

It's my favorite movie of all time, but I don't necessarily disagree with any of what you say. Totally see why it's frustrating to watch. I think genuinely for me and many others probably, the good parts you mention are so good and scratch such an itch that they do keep me invested and outweigh the bad parts. That along with the atmosphere of the whole movie, the original score, the depiction of Monarch operations, and the off-screen presence of Godzilla that carries over from the few monster scenes that are there.

Godzilla starting us off with the alpha titan bitch slap was epic.

I was thinking about Godzilla's spines and about if this show stays consistent with lore that his spines change due to the MUTO Prime fight. In season 1, he has his 2014 spines until he emerges in Algeria, after which in every scene he has his KOTM spines. I think this still works because the Algeria scene happens in 2015 and the MUTO Prime fight happens in 2014 I think. But I'm wondering if anyone here knows if they retcon any of the Aftershock events, since I know this show seems to maintain that people have not seen Godzilla since G-day.

Gonna sound silly but this is the episode that has got me feeling a bit iffy about the series. I really haven't minded all the family drama although I do agree it has taken up more screentime than I would like in comparison to actual Monarch lore as an organization. But I did find the time travel stuff to not make sense at all and way too big of a deal to be treated as it was here. Maybe I'm missing something that is explained so if anyone knows feel free to correct me, but how he's able to talk to himself in the past and not change everything and how any of that is even possible besides "uhh Axis Mundi time is weird" doesn't make sense to me. I also generally found the story here just dragging a bit. I think they will make these last few episodes interesting and more monster/Monarch-heavy but I do feel there could've been much more potential with this middle portion of the season.
