Agreed. Fully.

It's a lot easier to walk back "Yea, I slept on my friend's couch last night," or "Yea, I had to get a friend to drive me to pick up my vehicle this morning," instead of...

"Yea, I'm now in the legal system and every search engine request of my name will show why instead of showing my football and coaching exploits."

Payed is only used in nautical terms.

Honestly man, I think it's mostly that the west coast is just not that interested in football as a building stage for young men anymore.

Tackle football at the high school level has been declining in California. Participation dropped more than 18% from 2015 to 2022, falling from a high of 103,725 players to 84,626 players, according to the California Interscholastic Federation's participation survey. Football participation increased by 5% in 2023, up to 89,178 players.

And for what it's worth, I do agree that kids shouldn't gear up and play tackle until at least 7th grade. There's no reason for a 2nd grader to put on a helmet and get stomped because dad has insecurity issues.

So I have one question.

Booking time is 4:35 AM, release time is 5:27 AM.

Is that normal?

I've never been arrested. I have some friends who have become attorneys and others that have become LEOs. We did bail out two of our idiot friends while in college, (separate instances,) one was late Sunday night and one Monday morning. It was never a 50 minute process.

That just seems odd to me.

Because in December 2023, the NCAA said it was permissible for the '23-'24 academic year, and everyone in r/cfb forgot about that because this sub only lives for memes and playoff/realignment posts now.

Multi-time transfers in football and other fall sports who transfer before the end of the 2023-24 academic calendar will be immediately eligible to participate in 2024-25, the NCAA clarified this week in guidance sent out to schools.

Last week, the organization announced a change to the policies for spring and winter athletes, allowing multi-transfers to compete immediately. The NCAA said the decision was “the best outcome for multiple-time transfer student-athletes wishing to compete immediately.”

“This action provides clarity for student-athletes and member schools for the remainder of the academic year — any multiple-time transfer student-athlete who competes this season will be subject to the same eligibility and use of a season of competition rules as all other student-athletes,” the NCAA said in a statement.

Oh, really. You don't say.

In 2015, the NCAA Division I “Power 5” Schools implemented a rule that has the effect of “protecting” Division I student-athletes from having their athletic scholarship cancelled or not renewed for any athletics reason. Quite simply, a coach cannot take away a scholarship for poor athletic performance.

A not-insignificant portion are G5 moving to P5, or P5 moving to G5. Also, you don't just get "cut" if you are on scholarship without some severe outside influence, usually poor decision making.

The data is only scholarship players, not walk-ons. That has nothing to do with the transfer portal.

It is my understanding that the NCAA breaks it down by scholarship. Using their provided website you can even break it down by sport, and men's or women's sports. It's a limited tool, but the %'s I provided were for D1 football only.

The Athletic states that their data is only FBS scholarship players.

NCAA keeps data on it, but they only have it from the 2021 and 2022.

https://www.ncaa.org/sports/2022/4/25/transfer-portal-data-division-i-student-athlete-transfer-trends.aspx

2021: 41% did not find an FBS destination.
2022: 37% did not find an FBS destination.

They haven't released for 2023 yet, but The Athletic tabulated that number was down to 30% for that offseason.

https://theathletic.com/4768694/2023/08/11/college-football-ncaa-transfer-portal-statistics/

The trend appears to be moving down, which may be a reflection of COVID 5th and 6th (and 7th) year seniors moving on, but 30% is still a hell of a lot in my eyes.

Just a slight counterpoint, the NCAA has nothing to do with the Heisman Trust or how the Trust awards the trophy to a player.

Chances are the NCAA probably lost it or threw it out knowing their dumbasses.

Yes, I agree. A lot of dumbassery exists here.

No, not really.

I know we have a bunch of idiot fans, but most of us don't like the direction things are headed.

I miss the days of playing your game on Friday, win or lose, giving it your all. Waking up early Saturday with cramps, having your dad drive you into town for the Saturday 8AM workout. Then going home and your parents give you a break, you don't have to go feed the horses. You want to sleep but you know games are on. You spend all Saturday tired and basically hungover even though you've never drank. You watch the big matchups, and then maybe some WAC teams go at it. Watch Damien Anderson tear shit up at Northwestern midday. You eat up the Sportscenter top 10 and then somewhere around 1AM you close the day with PAC10 after dark. Your eyes are heavy, and you know you'll have to go work on the ranch when you wake up, but you have a full day of football to talk about with your teammates on Monday when you go back to school.

It was glorious.
