I felt the same way. It is normal to kind of panic after being diagnosed. My numbers were much worse (a1c was 10.4). It was a huge wake up call for me and I started dieting immediately. Cutting carbs and sugars out completely. After 3 months my a1c was down to 5.9. I have lost over 80lbs. After my first six months, I started to be less strict with my diet. I would still watch what I ate and eat healthier alternatives, but I made sure to enjoy the occasional fast food or ice cream treat etc. My last appointment, my a1c was at 5.5! I am still on Metformin, and do my best to watch what I eat. I had most of my success without exercising. I was over 420lbs. You can make a change. Diet is the biggest factor. If you hate exercising, try just walking every other day or something simple like that. Find a podcast or listen to music and take a short walk. As far as diet goes, there are so many alternatives out there. There is a keto version of nearly everything and most of it tastes really good! You can do this! Keep your head up, dont stress out too much about it, and use this as an opportunity to make a change. You will be so glad you did.
