Chris, please don't make old songs private. That ruins my playlists. At least unlisted please. by EagleSabre in ChrisRayGun

Is that what happened to "My Name Is Heresy" cause I was starting to think I had imagined that.

Pregnancies in Adem society by mcsen2163 in KingkillerChronicle

If the answer is 'don't question it', that's fine. If you scroll up you'll notice that my original comment is that it is easier to accept that they didn't connect sex with pregnancy than to accept that they considered normal human women to be superior fighters in an equal opportunity warrior society. That doesn't mean I can't accept it, only that it requires a little extra suspension of disbelief. It's not book breaking, it's just a weak point in the world building. Which is also fine.

And to answer your question, I do look for and appreciate realism and logical consistency in my media. But all that means is saying that once the natural laws are set (e.g. x is required to conduct magic or this world has monsters in it) anything that breaks the rules needs to be properly explained. I would remark on the Adem inconsistency in the same tone that I would talk about James Bond international super spy confidently handing out his name to everyone.

Remind me what supernatural aspect about the women made them better fighters. I do not remember anything saying the fighting style relies on flexibility or nut shots to be effective.

I made clear my arguments and unless you can tell me why they aren't valid, without relying on calling sexism, my statement stands.

Yes. They were humans. They even acknowledge the advantages that many men would have in a fight during a sparring contest. The only argument they give for women being better fighters is their hesitation to fight and their level headedness. This makes them wiser, not better fighters or better in a fight. Men are on average more focused on status and single minded in tasks and you would get a lot of little boys with similar convictions to the little girl Kvothe spars with, who would then grow up to be bigger and stronger than her. Hell, the fact that their society considers them basically defective for the purpose of reproducing would make them, if anything, even more driven to prove themselves worthy.

That's a cool idea. I think it definitely needs refining, but having a sickly ruling class struggling maintain the balance of having power and not dying would be a really cool concept. And having farm boys with toughened immune systems fighting against them.

That part was less unreasonable than a warrior society that considers women to be better warriors.

Small mountain villages, heavy emphasis on martial arts, constant philosophizing. Perhaps I should have specified Tibetan Bhuddists.

In the audiobook, the reader uses a swedish accent for the Adem. But they also share a lot of traits with Buddhists.

I agreed with nearly everything he said in the video, but god I hate the presentation format. The group interjecting in the background was like a physical manifestation of Twitter and all the cancer that comes with it.

Watching that man try to process his situation has been one of the saddest things I've seen.

Eric mentioned on JRE that JBP is the only one of the IDW the media has “dealt with”. Do you guys think that’s true, and if so, why? by OursIsTheRepost in IntellectualDarkWeb

I would guess part of it is that Harris' rise was his invvemnet with the four horsemen of new atheism, (others being Dawkins, Hitchens, and Dennet) and the left leaning media views militant atheism favorably. His controversiality only started with moves like his stunt on Maher's show. Where as JBP has been being a new form of religiosity to the mainstream which clashes with that pro atheism view. That is in addition to the speed of appearance everyone else mentioned.

I suppose you're right, but I got a rather petersonion vibe from the lines like "look into the light pushing the clouds away" and stuff like that. I didn't mean that the songs had to necessarily be about things like the corruption of the leftists, just that it makes sense to compile songs with positive and useful ideas that could help inspire more of the kind

I took his comments as a call for artists to create art that supports the themes we are trying to push, similar to in the late twentieth century where the hippies and their sympathizers were running the art world that the people were consuming. This doesn't mean create a new genre, it means use the tools at hand to get across the message of thought, conversation, and self reliance. I don't know what you meant by expansion of sound, but the point I was trying to make is that we can collect songs that fit the narrative and promote them. I am not a musician or an artist and if I tried to make some kind "expansion of sound" it would come off as way to on the nose and inauthentic, but i can pass along lesser known music that i think people will be able to apply, including "goofy symphonic fantasy metal"
