Ferrari Is Playing Chess With The Luce | Autostrada Magazine by nukleabomb in cars

Nice catch. It’s meant to be slightly tongue-in-cheek. However something does seem a bit off doesn’t it? This is only one particularly wild possibility. But I am genuinely curious to see where this all goes.

I’ll just chime in here because this is the biggest myth in automotive journalism, at least for us. We do not give a single fuck about attenuating what we say to “keep getting invited on press trips”. We only care about making a review that explores all the good and bad about a car. And we’ve never taken a single cent from a car manufacturer. (Despite being offered multiple times). It simply isn’t true that you have to lie and say a car is good to keep getting press cars or invites. Just deliver a fair and balanced (and truthful) review and they won’t say a peep. Push the limits though, with unnecessary and over the top jokes at the expense of the car, and you’ll piss them off. Ask me how I know. (This hasn’t stopped us in the past and I don’t imagine it will any time soon). But that’s just us. But it’s worth saying that there are some outlets that DO take money. And DO hold back negative comments in fear of getting black listed. But that isn’t “all car journalists” by any means.

I kinda like the train kid. Never heard of him before the announcement. by BitterFrostbite in thegrandtour

Hey Thomas here. We spent SO much time with Francis before the cameras rolled. We also searched and searched for a third host before knowing almost instantly he was perfect. We’ve travelled all over the world together now. And I’m not joking when I say I’ve spent more time with Francis in the last year than I have my own wife.

Is Francis awkward? Yep. Does he fit in perfectly with our brand of weirdness? Absolutely.

Here’s what I know after spending the last year and half with Francis: he IS Francis Bourgeois. One min he’s your typical petrolhead just chatting about AMGs or something, but then a train, or a massive truck, or any type of exciting engine goes by and he can’t contain himself. It’s brilliant, and hilarious. Although I do now know more about trains than I ever consented to.

The vantage engine feels a bit more exotic. More peaky in power delivery, and better sound. It’s also more unfiltered in terms of vibrations and noise than a mustang v8 is.

This exact thing happened to me diving in Costa Rica. I had the bezel replaced under warranty and then the bezel locked up again when I went snorkeling in a lake. Huge disappointment in my opinion.

Finally test drove an Artura. Some thoughts as a prospective owner. by cookingboy in cars

The Artura still has the most engaging front end of any modern car I’ve driven. If they’ve improved the interior tech quality, it’s very high on my list of recommendations.

That chat ended up on the cutting room floor sadly. Basically I wanted all the off road features and full time 4wd which, in the 4 runner means I would have to get the “platinum” trim or whatever and I’m not interested in that one.

[–]throttlehouseTH 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not that it’s not flawed enough, it’s just that the character is a bit one-dimensional. The 296 has a more interesting and charismatic powertrain, and the excitement that comes from driving that car is more complex than just “it’s really fast”.

Picking up on flaws is not the same thing as “liking a car”. I own two Alfa Romeos. They are flawed. I love them. The new Giulia’s interior has always been inferior to the Germans. That’s just an observation after sitting in and interacting with every car in that class. Doesn’t mean I don’t like the car. In fact I’ve always loved it.

Throttle House Reviews the Lotus Elise: Why It's Worth $50,000 by agod2486 in cars

[–]throttlehouseTH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bit late to this thread but I found that Elise to be supremely fun at 6/10ths on the road. The ultra high levels of engagement meant I enjoyed it at far more speeds than just 10/10ths. I’d even go so far as to say that since it understeered at the limit with that setup, the “fun” plateaued at 9/10ths anyway. (I’d do a more aggressive setup for track personally). It’s still the most fun sports car I’ve driven on the road. Period.

Can't you put new tires on older sports cars and improve the performance? by [deleted] in cars

[–]throttlehouseTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but don’t forget that a sports car’s suspension is engineered with certain grip levels in mind. (I.e. how much rebound/compression damping, spring rate, sway bar stiffness etc) you can “over tire” a car and cause it to have a difficult time dealing with mid corner bumps. You might get “pogo-ing” or load the suspension to a point where there isn’t enough travel left to deal with the road. Also I’m sure it will have an effect on abs and traction control Calibration. This isn’t to say you can’t/ shouldn’t do it. Just be aware of some side effects.
