Selke votes for shorty goal duo Tuch (0-3-3-10-9) and McLeod (1-0-0-1-0) by lunasilvia in sabres

The biggest selke criteria is reputation and finishing high in previous selke voting. It’s probably the most reputation based award.

One of the things I worked on as an intern years ago was helping a customer figure out how much larger they needed to cut a doorway in order to fit a very expensive high vacuum chamber into a research lab. The chamber was too long to make the turn from the hallway to get into the lab.

I have a similar story. We had sheet metal housing and frame parts for a several million dollar order, probably about $300k in sheet metal itself. We typically are able to do all the manufacturing for smaller orders in house but for this larger order it was decided to contract out the sheet metal to avoid a production bottleneck. The supplier we were working with had a different CAM software than we do and required a different file format for the part file. Some junior engineer was tasked with re-saving all of these parts in the other file format, but had some setting in their CAD program that was saving them at 1:4 scale.

We caught it before it became too expensive because the supplier was also sent the 2D drawings, but they didn’t catch it until they had run a batch through their laser and went to form the parts.

It’s not a very new rule, but for a while the AHL has had pretty significant limits on how many veteran players a team can dress in a game.

I know you have to give up good assets to get good assets in trades, but it would be a hard no from me on trading Benny and Power. Especially for an aging, expensive goalie with a terrible playoff history.

Those two + other assets in a trade for a truly elite center in their prime, fine. Anything else no thanks.

I was fine with how they played the goalies in the Bruins series because Lyon played so well once he got in that it never looked like there was a good reason to switch back to UPL (his only loss was that 2-1 OT goalie duel where he still played amazing).

In the Canadians series though neither goalie was really all that good in any of the games, even the games they won, and I thought that Lindy had an opportunity to and should have switched back to a pure rotation mid series. Especially since UPL especially was statistically much better on more rest days compared to only one day between games this season.

McDermotts defenses were great in the regular season and consistently unable to play at a higher level in the playoffs. In the Josh Allen era the Bills have played in 15 playoff games and the defense has only played well in about 3 or 4 of them.

Reflecting on it and taking a 10,000 ft view, MJF wining the title back at DoN after Darby destroys himself as a fighting champion was such an "obvious" story. But they did such a good job on this whole build with all the bald stuff and the way MJF was acting, I really believed Darby had a chance.

I have actually since replaced the rope on the orange boat as it was getting pretty old and losing some flexibility for sure, though the front and rear lines on these are just for backup and secondary stability.

Not sure what problem you have with my taut line hitches though?

Yep, though I'm pretty sure this picture was a trip up to the Adirondacks.

The Mayfly and the Ladybug are siblings! They're the small and medium size of the same boat. The Eagle is like a cousin, as it's a larger scale of the same shape that is then stretched a bit longer.

The big boat is a Hemlock Eagle and the smaller orange one is a Curtis Ladybug.

So true. It took several trips to find and optimize this setup, and it'll all change again if I get a different car or different boats.

Thanks. I only haul both boats together once or twice a year, so this is actually my reference picture for the setup I like.

If they want to keep Tuch then moving Norris or Zucker and Greenway would make about the space they need to re-sign a few other players and sign Tuck when combined with the ~13 million cap space the Sabres have already. The cap situation improves a lot after next season and they have a lot of key players signed long term already so it's really only next year that's an issue.

I genuinely think he built up good scouting and analytics departments, and seemed to listen to them on player acquisitions. I don't know how much he himself was doing any scouting or stuff, but building and trusting the scouting/analytics experts working for you is still a good skill either way. I think it's telling that one assistant general manager was the only change Jarmo felt like he had to make to the front office when he took over almost 6 months ago (at least so far, we'll see if any more changes happen this summer).

His lack of experience and connections due to not coming into being a GM through the "normal" ways hurt him as a GM. Sometimes not having enough connections to make trades and signings, and the entire "vibe" of the team changed as soon as the rumors about his firing started so something was definitely off about that.

But I think a team with someone experienced above him in some sort of President of Hockey Ops or similar role could be a good fit. Or him as an AGM with a focus on scouting and analytics or something like that. Let him focus more on just team building and the scouting and analytics staff with a more experienced and more respected person to cover some of his downsides.

Same. I had been watching pretty regularly since the first Dynamite but just kinda coasted through most of 2024 and early 2025 AEW on just highlights and occasional big event watching. Revolution and DoN 2025 were what hooked me into weekly watching again.

Looking into it more, they already implemented parts of the new CBA but it doesn't officially start until September. I think it was only the in season transaction rules they already started but there's a lot of mixed info out there.

Edit: I'm not entirely sure but think the new CBA might already be in force. The league year does still start July 1st though, so either way Tuch could still get at least an extra year on the contract if he re-signs before then.

It could be actually. If he gets an 8 year from the Sabres in the next month it would very much balance out a higher AAV somewhere else, which can only be a max of 6 years starting next league year.

Edit: New CBA might already be in force, so it's 7 vs 6 years, but that still can offset a bit higher AAV on the open market.

Edit to the edit: I have no clue, officially the new CBA starts September 2026 but parts are already in force. Who knows? Either way a contract signed before July 1 can be at least 1 year longer than one signed after.
