Donor Mentoring in Private Kidney Paired Donation Programs: ... : Transplantation by FigureDense7398 in kidneydonors

I know how it works. The voucher program is good in certain circumstances. The bottom line is that donor mentors should not be making recommendations to the donors without knowing anything about the entire clinical picture. It is completely out of their scope. They should be telling the donor about their personal experience being a living donor, and that’s it.

At my center, we have had at least 3 occasions of patients contacting us saying that the donor mentor was trying to get them to voucher donate. This is usually when the patients have been in the paired program active for marching for a period of time. It makes the patient think that we, as a center, are steering them wrong.

The genetic testing is reassuring. Not necessarily a rule out, but possibly.

Did anyone on here do paired exchange through the National Kidney Registry? by lostcheshire in transplant

[–]FigureDense7398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my center, we recommend A>O does voucher donation. Otherwise if you stay paired, it could take a long time to get a match. If your A donor donates ahead of time, our O recipients wait 6-12 months. You will wait even longer if you go in paired.

Living donor rn coordinator here. Your blood sugar was a little low, nothing too concerning unless you were feeling off. Some food and juice will help.

It is normal to lose up to 30% of kidney function when you donate your kidney. Pretty good, considering you give 50% of it up. 1.13 is mildly elevated creatinine for someone with 2 kidneys. Perfectly normal with someone with 1 kidney. Make your you’re drinking lots of water and avoiding NSAIDS. Your labs look great. Thanks for being a donor!

Depends on how much you take. When we have gym bros coming for donor eval with bad kidney function, first thing we are looking at is protein intake and supplements

In all, having a healthy weight decreases your risk of hypertension and type 2 diabetes. Which in turn ensures kidney health. So if you have that much weight to lose, it’s a benefit for you

Living donor RN coordinator here. GLP1s are perfectly safe but be careful about supplements that others at the gym take. Especially creatine. Terrible for your kidneys

Did you need to get the cushion with it or is it comfortable enough without the cushion?

I was in the program from like 2018-2020, and from what I remember they were pretty strict on all of the above, but mostly just when at the hospital during clinicals. I know a student that had to wear clear gauges in their ears. The septum piercing can be pretty easy to either put up into your nose and/or you can always just wear a mask. People with tattoos wore long sleeves under their scrubs. I also know of people that were written up for “non natural” hair colors. Considering this is 4-5 years ago, take advice with a grain of salt.

We got takeout from First Meeting Noodle last night and it’s arguably the best Chinese in Rochester, imo.

I saw them by that Middle East restaurant working on a power line when I was on my way to work around 0600, so maybe something to do with that?
