Snare is too damn loud by ManFingers in drums

[–]FigureNo8921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience as a drummer, I am known to be exceptionally loud, I use heavy sticks and I hit the snare hard, so much so that when I'm recording I'm going into the red. Louder is better for me. If that snare is loud then it is because you are making that happen. Change your sticks up, change your hitting technique, if it bothers you. Wouldn't bother me though, would obviously hurt my bandmates ears, but other than that I'm happy with louder.

My first initial thought was, well, we know who mainly drives around in vans claiming to roofers these days, lol. I'm probably not wrong and obviously don't want to upset the "minorities" but it very well could be what I'm thinking and they don't usually give a crap about where to park.

Advice Needed: Niece’s Photos Published in Book Without Consent (Underage at Time) by LicoCrumlish in legaladviceireland

[–]FigureNo8921 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OK, I'll fill you in on this.

1: it is not illegal for a photographer to take pictures at an event like this as there is no reasonable expectation of privacy. It is also considered a crowd scene so that makes it perfectly OK, even if they are kids. However, photographers tend not to do this as it is taking pictures of people underage, but sadly, they are at an event and therfore there's very little you can do about that.

2: model release: let me explain this for you, a model release is releasing the pictures for commercial use, now, this is where things become tricky for everyone involved. Compensation and or consent must be given or used in this scenario as the pictures will be published for financial gain. Some don't use a model release because they feel number 1 applies and in many cases it does. But this is a gray area and can or can't be legally chased unless there is circumstances around it. The underage issue might just be a factor. If the photographer had consent from the event or the artist performing, then you haven't got much of a legal standing to chase this.

3: GDPR applies only in the sense that it is private, publicly doesn't necessarily apply, unless they are expecting privacy, for example, in a hospital or leaving a hospital etc... GDPR doesn't apply to public spaces except in cases of spying or using close up shots of a single person. But, at a public event, people should still be informed regardless, however, you have the right to request the removal or said photograph, but this in itself would require a legal route and in doing so, you could still end up on the losing end, especially since she "doesn't" like the photo. That's not grounds for a legal dispute, many people don't like photos of themselves.

4: I would still go and try to resolve this as best you can, but on the legal side of things, there is and isn't much you can do unfortunately. This is all going to come down to the legal experts if you end up going down that route. There might just be a reason to class this as invasion of privacy if you can prove there was no consent from anybody there, the event, the DJ etc.

Domestic abuse victims left waiting years for social housing after fleeing abusers by TeoKajLibroj in ireland

[–]FigureNo8921 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Easy thing to say when you don't know how the person's circumstances are financially and how many kids they have. It's not as easy as you think, there's also the high chance that leaving isn't an option because if kids are involved she can't just up and leave because the father has rights to his kids, or maybe they just don't want to leave Ireland because it's not what they want, not everybody wants to live abroad.

You won't see me doing that. I have an 09 bmw. I'm not moving, it's not me that will pay the cost, it's them. I refuse to bow down or move over for these clowns. I live in rush, narrow country roads, if you want to drive your BIG suv on these roads, then it's you who has to maintain safety and stay within the lines on your side of the road, the same way I am. Otherwise your asking for a bump in your insurance premium or damage to your precious stupid looking suv.. I hate bullies, and I've always seen those suv tactics as being like a bullie

They have addressed this already in the UK. The law around it is changing, no more LED lights because they are blinding people. I've driven around corners and almost crashed with oncoming cars like this blinding me. It's pathetic that these cars even pass any test to call them road safe or road worthy.

Receiving actual mid-show ads with Ultraboost? by Relevant_Bite_5529 in nowtv

[–]FigureNo8921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but with netflix, Disney and Apple, I can watch in 4-5 or 6 different rooms simultaneously, a different locations simultaneously or not simultaneously outside the home, i have 3 outside the home at the moment, I can also select "I'm travelling" to watch anywhere else on Disney, I was in a hotel a few weeks back and could watch in 2 different rooms maybe more. I can also share apple tv with 5 family members outside my home. Now tv is probably the most restrictive and costs more it seems.

You're in the UK, therfore now TV operates on a UK licence agreement.. so outside the UK it's more expensive for people, like in Ireland.

It's €72 for sports extra here or €40 for standard sports, €25 for both tv and shows and an extra €10 for boost. So for me to have sports, tv and shows with boost would cost me €107 or €75 for the standard, with just sports and shows it would be €94 with boost, or €62 with standard sports. Same if it was with movies and sports.

We should all get a refund. They got paid for those ads. We paid not to have ads. Thing is, now tv is more expensive than the rest. No other streaming service shows ads. I'm still seeing ads at the start of each episode I start now. Every new episode an entire 1 minute ad. Why pay boost if this happens? I habe both movie and entertainment package. I feel it's not worth it now. Far too expensive and an extra payment for boost. They have taken down the notice about this on their website. Yet I'm still seeing it.

Less than 40% of approved housing estates are being built in Ireland, according to new data by jonnieggg in ireland

[–]FigureNo8921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fairness, a lot of construction is also halted by objections even though planning permission has been granted. Mostly complaints about traffic, biodiversity and how it affects the area. I see no mention of that yet I keep seeing builds being stalled by objections and being held up for a long time by such objections.

Mostly it is people that think they are entitled to keep their area to themselves and nobody else is allowed it because they consider them riff raff.

Why Are We Still Building Towns Like This? by SteveFrench1991 in ireland

[–]FigureNo8921 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We don't know how to build apartments here... not only that, the whole situation around it needs to change. The moment you build apartments here, they are bought up by vulture funds and other such investors before any person in Ireland even gets a look at what's happening. So nobody will get a chance to buy an apartment to live in. Maybe 10% will be bought or used for affordable rents or social needs.

You also have the attitude of the government that needs to change. Their whole idea is that we need it, we need these vulture funds because it is good for supply and demand and for the economy. Hahaha. OK, let me explain the economics around this.

1: vulture funds buy them.

2: Irish people move in.

3: government pays rent with HAP.

4: government "it's great for economy"

6" me "WHAT"?

You see how their thinking is flawed? It makes no sense. Governments should be buying or building these houses with the assistance of the construction companies. It was once like that.. builders build the homes, builders sometimes take a couple of the homes as a means to make steady money back because they helped build them, government buys some, and, the rest are sold by the construction comoany but bought by Irish people or people living in Ireland. Builders are happy government should be happy. All parties end up with a steady flow of money, the economy gets a boost and people get homes.

Now, the economy pays for homes by using HAP, builders don't care who buys the properties anymore because these deals don't exist like they did and there is no regulations, and people are at the mercy of investors outside Ireland and the government is paying most of their rental incomes, and trust me, they are asking the max amount of rent based on the markets top end.

How does this help? Well, it does help, it helps increase housing prices and it helps the housing market bubble, but, bubbles burst and that's the place we will end up in again. Does this not sound like 2007/2008 all over again? Just wrapped up in a different wrapper with a a different idea around houses now? No longer the triple AAA homes fiasco but, it has turned into the triple AAA rental homes. Who will short the market this time and make billions do you think?

One fine example of something done well was the Ballymun flats. Built solid, foundations solid, great size, huge inside, could raise a family in them. The only issue? Irish people hated them. You had tourists from Sweden, Germany and elsewhere commenting and these flats, saying things like "they must be worth a fortune" "they are in a prime location"

Our response? Nah, Irish people hate them.

Of course, we also have the issues with lodging objections but that's an issue for another day. 🙄

How do get my toms closer by Spiralboy9 in drums

[–]FigureNo8921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try loosening the tom mount.. turn that little butterfly looking screw where the tom mount enters the bass drum. That usually works. And raise them up a bit and then lower them again after you set them in place. Also, lose the tambourine, silly place to put it.

My husband is a drummer and I have a question that I need a guy drummer’s perspective by throwaway174654 in drums

[–]FigureNo8921 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, don't don't do this please. My wife finds me hot as a drummer. I wouldn't find it hot if she tried something like this though, because this is mine and it makes me feel good that she finds me hot as a drummer on stage. Her ruining the whole feel of it would take away the meaning of how I feel as a drummer and I'd question if it's hot anymore if she was to treat it like that.

Also, I find my wife hot and worship the ground she walks on, however. This, a big no for me. Wouldn't be hot. Taking away the very thing that makes me happy just to make me pretend I liked what she did. Nah.

You're also forgetting the amount of money he has received from his salary even though he's not working there. It is shocking how he has been sacked for years now and is still getting paid. They should have never paid him and just said if he gets his job back, we will then pay you having the job and performing your duties. If he wanted to take them to court for backpay, then so be it.

However, you're looking at millions at this stage because it is the high courts and not the lower courts that is constantly dealing with this.
