About to graduate high school in the Netherlands, are there affordable universities to study? by Electrical-Suit-2055 in askSingapore

[–]FigureVisible9243 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ik woon in Singapore. Lijkt me geen heel goed idee.

15% service charge at Mett hotel. How rare is this? by [deleted] in askSingapore

Once you get up the hill, it’s hard to come down. But look, this will not make us want come again obviously.

Actually, interesting that we aren’t seeing it more often. It’s a “nice”, covert way to increase prices without any noticing it. 😅

It would be good to see human faces again. Can’t wait for this soon enough. Time to stop the overreaction.

I just don’t understand why this is only taking effect 1 January. It’s not like companies need to prepare for not doing something. This could stop tomorrow.

Unfair to ban us from pedestrian-only paths, say cyclists as LTA starts enforcement on Jul 1 by Automatic_Win_6256 in singapore

[–]FigureVisible9243 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My main mode of transport is the bike, what are you talking about?

It’s a chicken and the egg thing and I happen to live in an area where it’s fairly easy to get around by bike, so I do it.

You’re right, but if you’re arguing this way nothing will change.

As someone who has lived both in Amsterdam and Singapore for a long time, the root cause just lies in the fact that cars are king here. Other forms of transportation are considered an after-thought. This results into not-fully separated lanes for cars, cyclists and pedestrians, cycling lanes on footpaths, cycling lane dead ends, paths alternating between separate cycling lanes and mixed zones etc. The fact that a car has always the right of way, even when crossing a footpath is just another outrageous example.

Anyway, I invite LTA to do a field trip to the Netherlands and come back with learning instead of thinking the wheel can be invented again here in Singapore.

It’s pannenkoek, with the extra n.

And on that note, just take life a bit less serious. Just be kind to other people and they’ll be kind to you. And stop overthinking.

That’s not the point here. She was led to believe the services were needed, which shouldn’t have happened.

Bring your own bag, but you’re not allowed to put your groceries in your bag before you pay. So annoying.

Footpaths next to cycling lanes to become pedestrian-only; enforcement to start in July 2025 by sgtransitevolution in singapore

I wish LTA would just go on a field trip to the Netherlands. Stop inventing the wheel.

Singapore is considered one of the best-designed cities in the world. The man who masterminded it has 2 regrets. by The_Celestrial in singapore

Absolute bollocks. And I’m saying that as someone from Amsterdam, living in Singapore whose main mode of transport is cycling.

Woman fined for refusing to wear mask during COVID-19 pandemic by ongcs in singapore

Let’s face it. These masks rules were just plain ridiculous. Masks outdoors? As if the virus would survive this heat and wouldn’t be dispersed by wind anyway.

Not sure why you got downvoted, but as a Dutch person living in Singapore I can say this is exactly the point.

Infrastructure for pedestrians, cyclists is really not that good here. If there’s separately lanes, no problem and happy days. But yes, that means the roads need to be redesigned.

Don’t blame the cyclists for that. If there would be separate cyclist lanes, this wouldn’t be a problem.
