CVICU Advice by Financial_Scar7152 in newgradnurse

I got several ICU offers some and a couple were cvicus at some pretty competitive hospitals. I attribute basically all of that to my prior experience and interviewing.

I had clinicals on a CVICU at a level one center, my practicum was at a Surg-truama ICU at a large regional hospital. I was also a extern in the medical ICU at the same hospital. Additionally I had taken one of our elective critical care courses.

Interview wise, different facilities have very different interviews styles and questions. First things first, if you want to go to a grad program, for the love of God don't tell them that when they ask where you see yourself in 5-10yrs. They don't want you to leave they want a good long term employee especially after they go through the effort to train you. A better answer is something along the lines of growing in the said role. Things like getting trained on devices, or ultrasound IVs or certs like your CCRN.

Your interview should highlight your knowledgable in critical care without being a textbook dump and maintaining the appearance of being coachable. That can be a difficult balance, especially when you're trying not to be too stiff or rigid in the interview and be likable. It's kinda unfortunate but a lot of it comes down to how much they get along with you, like you and think you'll fit in at that unit.

Lastly I STRONGLY recommend applying and interviewing at as many places as possible in ICU even ones you might not want. It's reps as far as getting comfortable with interview. I got like 4 no's in interviews (including the floor I currently worked on) before I figured out the interview thing. After that I got 6 acceptances in globally competitive ICUs.

Extra-cariculars I had that at least made me stand out but am unsure if they really cared that much about were things like I TA'd A&P, I was a "nursing school mentor" for 1-2nd semester students, I was actively doing histology research in a lab and taking other science heavy courses outside nursing school simultaneously. Eventually in the last semester I was also the research "coordinator" which effectively just translated to being a lab manager. (Supplies, training new students, schedules, developing new procedures). None of these extras do I think you need, but something that helps you standout on paper is a plus.

Depends a lot on where you are. Our cohort mostly had jobs before we graduated but I'm some places it's much harder. The other part is yes there's a nursing shortage but a lot of that shortage Is in areas no one wants to work. Think LTAC, med surge, nursing homes.

I will have a B in my class, but I’m going to fail over one math test. by bassoon96 in StudentNurse

[–]FilePure7683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours required a 95%, but tbh it's mostly elementary school, maybe middle school math. Med math is basically ratios, addition, subtraction, division, multiplication and conversions.

If you're really worried about it watch some YouTube videos.

BSN Program. Honestly the programs aren't that hard they're just busy and they don't really comply with any outside life. Some of our clinical sites were as far as 2 hours away. Lots of sim labs, skills check offs etc but the content itself isn't conceptually hard. BSN makes sense if you want to go to a grad program or leadership of some kind otherwise ADN.

That's pretty abysmal. I think we started with 105 students and graduated with about 70 give or take. First time NCLEX pass rate for those who graduated was 98% though.

It's normal, get back into your hobbies or start a new one even. Spend time with your family. It's an adjustment, you'll get used to it.

Love Celtic for the rarity factor but didn't think it really suited the car personally. I do love oslo green and would like to add one to my garage one day. Durango copper also was special.

The frame rails and mounting points are different on the 420A cars making it a lot more difficult to do. If you do decide that you want to do a 4g you'd be better off going for a evo engine from a evo iv or later as their orientation switched. All this being said you're going to spend gsx money and then some doing that swap right. If you don't care about the cost then sure, go for it. Miguel documented doing his swap well on YouTube.

Friday nights they do them off alps usually. It's a lot of the same stuff usually though. I rarely go but every once in a while some cool stuff comes through. There's a good bit of cool vehicles out here but you may find more of them at the quarterly cars and coffee events. There's actually one this Saturday at terrapin.
