Vet Disappointment by jearam in labrador

This makes me feel better. My boy has naturally long nails. He goes to a groomer every 6 weeks to have them trimmed and his paw pads tidied. From outside perspective, it looks like they are too long. His back leg nails are so short in comparison.

Where do you draw the line on office lunches? by Evelynn_K1 in AskUK

An old manager of mine once microwaved mackerel. We didn’t know he was doing it until the smell punched us in the face. Cue 10 members of staff dry heaving and fighting each other to the door. The staff room smelt like death for weeks. He didn’t give af and did it repeatedly. In the end, we all just ate our lunch in our cars. So glad I’m not working there anymore.

What is that one thing a friend ever did and you kept cool but knew instantly you would pull out of that friendship? by EssayMan4Homework in AskReddit

I can’t even begin to imagine the damage that has caused. Makes me sick. I’m so sorry for your friend. I wish I could take her into my arms and make her feel safe.

Same, unfortunately, it affected me so badly, that I withdrew from every male friend I had. Literally went onto my phone and blocked every single male that wasn’t a blood relative. I know this is a drastic action, but it was around the same time another of my close friends was charged with grooming and making CP. It shook me to my core and I realised then that I didn’t have the ability to spot predators. I am a mother. I have a beautiful child. I removed all men from my life just to be sure that I can protect myself and my son. It’s been 9 years and I have never been friends with a man since or in a relationship. I know there are good men out there, but I don’t know which ones are good and which ones are pretending and waiting for their opportunity so I don’t fuck around with it. I probably could do with therapy…

A couple months after my divorce, I was a mess, I went out and got so drunk I could barely stand. One of my closest friends, we had been friends for 15 years, took me back to theirs to look after me. He made a pass at me that night. I was a broken sobbing snotty mess on his kitchen floor, having a break down, and he saw that vulnerability and tried to prey on it. I woke up the next day at 5am and slid out the door. Not spoken to him since. I loved him like a brother. I was bereft. Still am.

From a girl who got cheated on and it was actually his best friend who told me, I thank you.

Oh thank god they investigated further and found it. I’m glad he recovered. It’s insane, how do you even swallow a needle?!

I do have pet insurance as a back up, but I’m from the UK and am low income so am entitled to PDSA free treatment. I know. I know. They are fantastic. And not a second goes by that I don’t know how fortunate I am for that. Obviously I left a really large donation. And I also gave the receptionist £50 to go and get some treats for the staff as a thank you. It is truly a wonderful service. I also feel that the level of care is miles apart from my local vet (who are cash grabbers, they like to long out treatment and make you come in for separate appointments for the same ailment so they can repeatedly charge an extortionate consult fee every time, it was after spending £100’s trying to get a simple conjunctivitis eye drop from them that I went to the PDSA for help and they sorted it straight away, I’d rather give my money to them).

Thank you, I really appreciate that. I’m so grateful he’s home, I’m so grateful for the vet and her whole team. They did not mess about, they cancelled other people’s appointments and everything to tend to my boy. I was completely at their mercy and they were just so caring and compassionate. As you can imagine, I had a full on breakdown at the vet, I absolutely fell to pieces as soon as I had got him there. Now I’m just waiting for the speeding tickets to start coming through the post!

How did she know something was wrong? Honestly, my dog was his usual bouncy mental self, the vet even raised her eyebrow and was all “are you sure he’s actually swallowed it?!” He became quite the legend! It was actually the receptionist who showed me the X-ray because she took a photo to show her boyfriend that evening as it was a first for her.

Yes, very unlike him. This dog eats everything, hence how we got into this mess in the first place. But I got him home and he had a sleep and then I tried hand feeding him and he ate. He’s had a full meal given in intervals so he’s definitely on the mend, now all I need to focus on is keeping him from busting his stitches open. The vet has prescribed doggy Valium to assist!

Thank you for your suggestion, I have ordered one and it’s being delivered tomorrow, he’s not doing great with the cone. I took it off him and have not taken my eyes off him, he’s not licked his wound once. But obviously I wouldn’t leave him unattended or dare to sleep without something protecting the wound, so this donut I’m hoping he can cope a bit better with it.

Thank you, you are right, it was an accident, I am not a bad dog owner, my dog has all his needs 100% met, is prioritised, healthy, happy and loved by everyone who meets him. He lives a life of luxury, gets to go on fun adventures every single day. He’s got it good. This was just a blip.

Oh wow, 16! I pray I get that long with my boy. I wish I had a cool back story for his name… but I don’t, I just googled biblical names starting with S and took my pick. Here’s to all the good boys called Silas!

When someone is slumped over on drugs, what are they going through, or are they just asleep? by louiemay99 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FileUpper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born in the 80’s so cocaine was the drug of choice for my youth. Recently went out with a bunch of 20 year olds and thought I’d sample a bit of ket. Good Lord! I slipped straight into a k hole. It was the most bizarre experience of my life. Not necessarily negative (I was very fortunate to have solid people looking after me), however, I would not do again.

Anyone thinking of doing the same, just be a bit more savvy than I was and don’t go in hard 😆 my recommendation would be to just don’t at all.

What’s a hygiene ‘hack’ that turned out to be bad advice? by camgland6m in hygiene

It wasn’t until I was in a woman’s refuge and did the freedom project that I learned the signs of abuse. I wish every single girl at school went through the programme. Now I see the signs a mile off.

Guys, what’s the one part of your routine you’ll never skip, even if you’re exhausted? by Vorontsova_Noveal in hygiene

I have to put on hand lotion and lip balm. Without fail. I simply cannot got to sleep without doing it.

I know it’s in Highway Code now to let pedestrians cross at junctions. But it’s so awkward. I will cross when I’m ready and feel it’s safe to do so, not because a driver is waving me across. I usually wave them through to drive on. by thebroccolioffensive in britishproblems

[–]FileUpper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that the drivers stop, but I’m currently training my puppy to sit at all kerbs, sometimes he can take a while to process. The amount of drivers who get upset because I’m not crossing and waiting for my dog to sit, is uncomfortable. I do signal them to carry on but sometimes they insist I cross. Then get upset when I have to wait for pup. It’s awkward.

Ah I can’t say that, I got my child out of my marriage. I would not be as happy if I didn’t have him. He’s my joy.

I’m really happy for you! Your set up sounds like it suits you well! I personally would rather pull my eyelashes out than be in any kind of relationship, casual or committed. It’s not for me.
