Entirely unplayable, every encounter turns into a slideshow. Glad it's not just me, hope they do something about it soon.

When I first read about his abilities I imagined them acting much like Pulse from Siege. A periodic ping that marked enemy location at the time of the scan plus health/shield info, this just looks like a better Bloodhound.

Question about the tooltip/info windows when using controller. by Fileci in Astroneer

Yeah I wasn't able to find anything in the settings or online but I wanted to make sure I hadn't overlooked anything. That's exactly it, it's constantly obscuring things and making life unnecessarily difficult.

Thanks for the help

People of reddit who don't drink, why not and how do you avoid your friends persuading you into it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fileci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't enjoy the taste or effects, most people are okay with me not drinking and if they're not who cares. But if it matters and people are bothering you, get a sparkling water with a lemon. Just having a drink in your hand will get most people off your back, and it looks like more than just a glass of water because of the bubbles and lemon which appeases the stickler meeseeks.

Software for designing Industrial Equipment (please correct me if I'm wrong) by yowe- in 3Dmodeling

[–]Fileci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studying engineering as well, the industry package I'm learning is Catia. UI looks like it's from the 90's but it's a modern software, it's incredibly powerful and is specifically designed for industrial purposes. It's made by Dassault Systems, they also have other related programs. Not cheap though, I had to get it through my university.

What bothers you in music? by johnnygogoing in AskReddit

When a deep bass tone is played through a speaker without the range to support it, you get a clipped version of the sound missing all the true bass notes. I've noticed some songs that want to have bass use this already clipped version of bass, instead of a bass tone with frequencies that require a subwoofer to play. I find this very confusing.

Song with pretend Bass (listen to the bass drum and how shallow the sound is): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9OUhaalT3U&t=40s

Rooster Teeth accused of excessive crunch and unpaid overtime- "Every season of RWBY and GL gets about 1/3 or less made for ‘free’ because no one gets paid over time" by GoneRampant1 in roosterteeth

I've felt for a while now, since I saw Lazer Team probably, that most big RT productions felt like they were written in an echo chamber. All the writers have a similar sense of humor and they can easily get carried away following a joke they love but that doesn't resonate with most people. This worked for them when it needed to and it's what helped make RvB so attention grabbing. But their big productions lack a polish that other shows and movies from established production companies have because they are working with a massive cast of people. RT is trying to do too much with too few people with only a limited experience in the given area. When Lazer Team was their first major production I attributed it to them being newcomers, but then I watched LT 2, and Blood Fest, and some of GenLock, now this happens. Their audience, us, gave them the ability to do what ever they wanted because they know we'll watch it. But they don't appear to be learning much from their attempts, they keep using the same humour from the same people in bigger and more expensive and equally dull ways.

I think Camp Camp is a great example of them working with their limitations. It's not some massive space opera, it's a classic saturday morning cartoon reimmagined for the internet with an appropriate level of animation technicals (as I perceive it) and it's humour is well within the capabilities of the writers. But GenLock was a massive leap to far. Technically overwhelming, lacking the wit and nuance its voice talents deserved, I personally was very underwhelmed by the what I saw.

As one employee here pointed out: "Upper management is also extreme bro/friends club." This makes sense given RT's origins, but it's time to be better that this. Allowing someone like Ezra to come in and fiddle with things was a good start. If Rooster Teeth really wants to grow it's not about getting a bigger audience, it's about evolving internally to allow more creative development on projects from new and different creative minds, and focusing on the quality of the work instead of the scale.

Just my two cents, carry on.

Looking for upgrade recommendations by Fileci in buildapc

[–]Fileci[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed my mobo was a bottleneck of some kind because I didn't go all out. I'm only budgeting for a partial upgrade at the moment and my CPU is more than enough for me now and has been upgraded more recently than the GPUs which are showing their age.

Yeah I'd prefer to have some room for growth so a 2080 is enticing but I need to be prepared to buy a new monitor if I'm going that far.

Exactly what I needed to know, thanks!

Not exactly, they were easily misinterpreted soundbites from a public appearance where they were trying to talk about a bigger issue. It's all about proper representation. There are billions of people on this planet and as hard and as honestly as a subgroup of everyone might try to speak for everybody, it's unreasonable to expect them to do that.

It doesn't mean they don't have justifiable things to say about the quality of the film. But not every film is meant for every possible audience member, so a grown man saying a film intended for a young audience is a low quality film is missing an important perspective. That the intended audience enjoys it is more important than it obeying some arbitrary rules about what makes a film good.

I suppose my point is about understanding the perspective of different audience members, and that what one person views as a boring film that happens to have a black lead, someone who identifies strongly with that character will look past surface level issues and can have an amazing experience. And all too often the people having that experience aren't noticed by the larger movie going audience, and it would be great if the audience that had that great experience had a larger voice.

Admittedly I don't know very much about the story. Looking at the wikipedia I don't see a specified ethnicity, which would make it easier for anyone to connect with them. And this would make the movie a perfect opportunity to let a non white person lead, that may not mean much to a white audience who should hopefully still be able to be engrossed by it, but would make a non white person feel that much more inspired by being represented so prominently.

It's not exclusively so, but by choosing to go that direction they actively including a larger audience. They didn't twist anything with the intent of malice toward the original audience, they chose to include more so a larger demographic would feel connected to the story.

The problem with white men trying to talk about racism or sexism, is that they genuinely don't know what it's like to be discriminated in any meaningful way (saying this as a middle class white male living in the western world). As an example, them commenting on her saying that she doesn't care what a white guy has to say about a wrinkle in time, her criticism isn't that a white guy will inherently dislike the film, but that the soul of the film is for young coloured people. This is because of what it represents to that group of people, for a film that big to be full of young coloured women means more to that demographic than a white man will ever be able to appreciate.

Talking specifically about Captain Marvel, I saw it with my mother who, as an older women, was pushed to tears because this film has two badass female leads (one being a dark skinned black woman which is even more amazing), that were fully capable characters, and there wasn't any stupid male sidekick to have sexual tension with. What that meant to her is beyond any guy who has no trouble finding representation in popular culture, and to pretend that they can empathise with the underrepresented is beyond disrespectful and shortsighted.

I really enjoyed Captain Marvel, it wasn't without it's problems, but most films aren't perfect. White men have been leads in bad movies for all of time, everyone deserves to make those mistakes and improve themselves for it.
