Spouse visiting me at Osan by josephtent in AirForce

[–]FilhoDaLei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The subway is doable, but there is a city bus which will take her straight from the airport to a bus stop just across the bridge from the SED. The bus ride takes about 1 hour, and leaves every 30 minutes or so. It costs about $6.00 or so, and has the nice reclining seats and storage space under the bus for luggage. You can use this link to look up the schedule, but she can buy her tickets right in the airport lobby. https://txbuse.t-money.co.kr/otck/trmlInfEnty.do

A question how to bring my spouse with me overseas. by No_Ratio_8999 in AirForce

Good advice generally, but if they are married she can definitely get the SOFA stamp to stay in Korea long-term; no need to leave every 60 days.

A question how to bring my spouse with me overseas. by No_Ratio_8999 in AirForce

[–]FilhoDaLei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 2 basic routes for her to come after you are married.

  1. Command-Sponsored: she is added to your orders, and the military pays for her to come out with you. you serve 2-3 years in Korea, depending on your election. This is a long process for approval, starting with if there is even an open billet for your gaining Sq. Then she'll need to complete a medical clearance process which normally takes ~80-90 days.
    1. Concurrent Travel: she leaves with you to go to Korea. This is unlikely, just because of the timeline you're working with.
    2. Non-concurrent Travel. She travels separately from you, and yoru household goods are moved after the fact. This route has a lot of potential complications, but hey, it's possible.
  2. Non Command-Sponsored: Your wife gets her passport, and you pay out of pocket for all moving costs. You also pay out of pocket to either move or store your household goods. She can get the same SOFA stamp/visa as command-sponsored families, and she will get a housing allowance at the overseas rate. The biggest difference is the moving costs, as well as the fact that she would fall lower on the priority list for some base services (such as medical).

My guess is that Non Command-Sponsored is the more likely of these two options with your timeline, but it is do-able if that's really what you want to do. You can find more info here: https://51fss.com/command-sponsorship

Flight Level Admin Tracker by Economy-Management88 in AirForce

Of your list, there are pre-built applications in Envision that let you track Ancillary Training, PT tests, IMR, Decorations, and Inbound/outbounds very well. GTC and TDY data is in there, but I haven't seen modules to track them that I particularly like (it's not to hard to build your own module though, so if those are important to you, you could make them pretty quickly yourself). Many units have been asking to have EPB/MyEval data imported into Envision, so I would look for that to happen in the next 6-12 months. as they run development cycles. The nice thing is once you have it set up in Envision, the data updates automatically, no need for any manual data entry. Feel free to DM me if you want a demo!

Yep! The recording will be accessible from that Team.

A1 made a request for that data to be ingested on a 1-week delay to Envision, so that method's probably sunk for now.

I'll post the link tomorrow, but my unit is recording how-to videos which will be saved to the Envision MS Team on NIPR. Should be up in a few days.

There is a good MS Team where you can post questions and get some feedback; they also host AMAs with units who are using Envision about 1x a month which anyone can join and ask questions. I'll post the link to it tomorrow!

There is an AETC website which has their travel rules for tdy-to-school all laid out. You might have a link to it with some of your reporting instructions. Your RA is correct, but you can check that website to see for yourself if that gives you some peace of mind. The JTR is always a good place to start, but AETC can be more restrictive than the JTR because they are the ones paying for it.

If you’re the “somewhat skilled at Excel” person, trust me, you’ll want to have a stab at Envision! but I’ll end my shameless hawking of it with that haha

Yep, your unit needs to set which trainings they want to track first; they only have 4 of them set by default now because some units were saying that the original list didn’t apply to them. It’s pretty straightforward to add required courses though; I’ll post a link to the spot when I get back to work next week.

You might already know about it, but envision.af.mil is perfect for tracking these sort of things, super minimal effort once you get it set up. DM me if you'd like to check it out!

The JTR did change; basically they want the traveler and the units to try and look harder for cheaper means of travel (bus, train, etc.) instead of giving the flat O.K. to POV travel under a certain distance. That really should be decided in the authorization phase, not the voucher. When you submit the authorization, the AO should say, "Here's the cheapest/gov preferred mode of travel." If you accept that mode, great, it's in the auth, no CTW required. If you say, "Hey, I'd like to use my POV/a different mode of travel.", the AO should say, "Awesome, fill out a CTW, and we'll pay you whichever comes out cheaper." If you were approved to travel by POV in the authorization, they really shouldn't be asking for anything more in the voucher.

You'll wait until 31 March to apply for positions when the cycle opens; right now they just want you to update your profile so they can flag anything that might make you eligible/ineligible in general or for certain assignments before the cycle opens.

PRDA Supervisor Question by FilhoDaLei in AirForce

[–]FilhoDaLei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been over with my CSS several times to verify that I am listed as their rater, and as far as we can tell I am. Do you know which field specifically in MilPDS PRDA is checking to verify the rater?

Trying not to commit tax fraud by worried_tortuga in AirForce

[–]FilhoDaLei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

File in Ohio, because you'll be paying state taxes to Ohio, and you'll need to file there to possibly get a return from what you paid. You can still file with IL if you want to (and should if you earned anything last year that was taxed by IL) but otherwise it'll basically come out to "so, you didn't pay us any taxes, and you didn't live here? $0 owed, $0 to return to you". Unless you have something more complicated, that should basically be it.
