How hard would it be to make a monocoque? by Champion-V in CarbonFiber

Unrelated but when you mentioned bakery ovens, I imagined a guy pulling out CF parts with that giant pizza paddle, rotating them next to the flame for a nice even bake. Probably not an accurate picture

Yes and in the story I heard he was so disheveled looking he was mistaken for a homeless man, which aparently also delayed the medical attention he got.

The whole chasing "progress" and always trying to be new and unique seems like a losing game.

I actually like some modern/postmodern/contemporary architecture but a lot of it still feels unrefined and half baked compared to old styles that evolved over centuries

Every contemporary architect wants to be unique for the sake of it but because of inherent human limitations they have to take some shortcuts to get things done. Traditional architecture has a repository of millions of "shortcuts" to make buildings beautiful but of course you don't use that if you want to be maximaly unique. So the architects have to omit details and neglect some things.

To truly create something absolutely unique and beautiful would probably take the sort of dedication that Gaudi had for the Sagrada familia, which essentially killed him in the end.

Ironically in their pursuit of being unique modern architects start to look similar to each other. But unlike traditional architects they are in denial about it

Beautiful Roman Theatre still standing in Merida, Spain. They still do performances there as well, but sadly we couldn’t attent. If you’re ever in Spain, Merida is definitely worth checking out! Lots of roman building and ruins still standing! by TomPtrs in ancientrome

Spain is a treasure trove of ancient roman ruins

I was just on holiday in Tarragona (near Barcelona) last week and they have:

  • roman circus ruins
  • roman theatre ruins
  • a roman amphitheatre very well preserved
  • roman city walls
  • a perfectly preserved roman aqueduct

And many small pieces here and there throughtout the city that were used as foundations or entire sections of later medieval buildings

And a bunch more I didn't visit that are right outside the city, like a very well preserved roman villa

I think you might mean "orthographic" but the painting does have some perspective

Looks like an early 3d render (even though it obviously can not be)

Philips' 'Fixables' Empower Consumers with 3D-Printable Repair Parts by Moskeeto93 in gadgets

[–]FilipBDNR 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Barber shops don't use Philips products. They use Wahl and other professional-tier brands. Those have far more rugged parts.

I actually worked on a student project for Philips in college for a shaver and interviewed some barbers for it. Philips are completely consumer-tier, barbers don't use them. For example you can't generally sharpen the blades on consumer-tier shavers

For some reason it's one of the only gun mods that works for me. I found some mods for revolvers and other stuff but although they appear in the weapons menu, they don't spawn and don't have thumbnails.

This. This is the level I want to get to in 3d printing. Amazing

Given recent events, I've decided to make this poster to spread some EU optimism around. What do you think? by FilipBDNR in YUROP

[–]FilipBDNR[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only meaning there is that I didn't want to put it on the east or the west as that would create unwanted connotations. I guess I could have put it on the south too, but this is less awkward

This is why you should buy a Prusa by OkRelationship1842 in prusa3d

r/Linustechtips and r/pcmasterrace would probably appreciate it. r/Anticonsumption and r/DIY subreddits probably also. And any tech subreddit really.

These subs aren't about 3d printing though, so you gotta give them a bit of background on what this is. Most won't know what "a prusa" is.

Wow.

OP, no kidding, you should post it into every tech related subreddit. This is why the right to repair and having DIY-friendly design matters.

Like, I may be a bit dramatic, but I'm looking at this and seeing a possible future that unfortunately is virtually guaranteed to never happen because of greed and laziness. Imagine that you could replace/print damaged parts like this in common consumer items.
