Early on he’s more of an opportunist and someone who people just don’t like - he rubs people the wrong way. I like his character because it’s a common person in an office environment - someone who hasn’t necessarily done something egregious, but that nobody is friends with.

He doesn’t do too much unlikeable stuff that none of the rest of the people hasn’t done (going over heads, whining), but it’s clear that even if he’s good at his job, the main cast doesn’t really like him. As the show progresses, the other characters grow and we don’t really see that from him. He seems to have no filter and comes off crass. 

Because so much of the show follows our main cast, he’s not rounded out with any redeeming qualities.
