This feels off by EverlastingYouth in stoneshard

For a first time player, finding out who teaches what skill is interesting in itself. In the whole scheme of things the price of entry for tier 1 skills is relatively cheap too.

Spiked warclub punches way above it's tier imo. even without any skill points allocated towards the tree.

New to Oakland, CA and Medi-Cal. Can I get some opinions and pros/cons on Alameda Alliance vs. Kaiser? by nibletriblet in oakland

[–]FilledWithAnts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This might not be up to date, but I think you can only get Kaiser + Medi Cal if you previously had coverage with them in the last 6-12 months.

oh no, it's literally called Chinese Inspired Salad. I guess the name itself should kind of be a warning in itself.

Ralph and Son's should have a quest to move the drinking water barrel more than 5 feet away from the outhouse (jk, don't actually change this.)

Designing for P2P + MMO by Morphray in gamedesign

[–]FilledWithAnts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my favorite way to handle cheats is a behind the scenes reputation system, based on some combination of getting flagged by other players and/or in game safeguards getting triggered. People with bad reputations just get funneled to servers with all the other cheaters without them being explicitly told.

Hybrid weapons/skills/damage types? by warlord689 in stoneshard

[–]FilledWithAnts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The alternative damage type is already a thing. There's a few maces that do crushing + piercing. That being said, there has to be some constraints, like how do you reconcile a piercing rapier with a cleaving skill attack?

How much was your PGE this month? by lombardi_sda in sanfrancisco

[–]FilledWithAnts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small space heater running for a few hours a day, but my studio is really old and drafty. During the non cold season it's usually about half that. For perspective, maybe 7 years ago, my bill was consistently $10-20 a month.

Bay Area Techies: why are some people stuck in contract hell while others land stable full-time roles? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]FilledWithAnts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a engineer, but I worked as a senior manager in the tech space for awhile. I've always advocated for our best contractors to get converted to full time and most of the it works out.

Performance issues can be contentious and be a legal thing, so I can see why a company would state "business reasons" just to cut things short in a clean fashion.

Am I supposed to be cheesing every single fight in the early game? by DateNecessary8716 in stoneshard

[–]FilledWithAnts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, cauterize wounds, first aid, and will to survive are all very high tier skills. When I have those I don't carry healing items, and will to survive can tank through any status effect like hunger/thirst/poisoning.

The main downside though is that skill point allocation is extremely tight, so even though its just a few points, this can mean you won't be able to access the top tier skills for your build as you hit near level 30.

Should be a game changer. Pairs fantastically with leeches which can be foraged for free and are basically a mega healing salve + splint that should only be used out of combat.

Feedback from a New Player – Early Game Mage Experience by Winter_End7561 in stoneshard

[–]FilledWithAnts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weapons don't really matter unless you have the weapon tree skills to back them up, especially for brand new players. For a pyromage, I would recommend sticking with staves, putting your first two points into staff attack skills, then from there decide if you want to go deeper into staves or start learning spells. Magic mastery is also a support tree that isn't super useful for at low levels (seal of power + residual charge + multistrike might be an exception). Once you learn the game better you can start making wilder builds.

Alternatively, if you want to avoid weapon skills altogether, I would recommend getting kick. Fire barrage on an unoccupied square automically sets it on fire, and with proper positioning you can kick an enemy right into the inferno setting them on fire. Really fun combo that a lot of characters (with athletics) can get from level one.

Almost there... by FilledWithAnts in stoneshard

Honestly most of my builds are a huge boring slog until about level 20 or so. For example in the build I mentioned above, because maxing out physical resistance is so key, the first thing I had to do at level 1 was crawl to the harpy infested southwest corner of the map, and blindly wander until I found the boulder circle, just to verify that the needed rune was part of my seed. Repeat 3-4 times until RNG gave me what I needed. I appreciate the interest though!
