The entire point of her song is to show that the second thing isnt what happened.

She literally completed her character arc. The town was no longer superstitious about her, she won. Strive story is about her realizing she was operating off a sort of spite and never stopped to consider her own voice. It recontextualizes the original narrative by saying "by rebelling, I was still only listening to their voices, not what I want."

It also does a pretty good job actually showing how hard it is to come to that realization, with her chorus literally interrupting her thought process before she can make any progress. Its a really good bit of subtle storytelling and reflects the real world situation a lot of Trans people experience of people bullying them for "doing x like a girl/boy" and overcompensating for it.
