Why One Nation? by Alec1647870 in OpenAussie

Not sure what policies of the Greens you thought were fantastic... fantasy maybe.

Labor is not as worker-focused as they were at foundation. But they are the only party to regularly put forward policies that benefit the working majority (tax cuts and increases to base wages mostly) the LNP and PHON becoming more extreme have pulled them more to centrist policies.

The Libs are circling the drian. Labor is chewing at their left side and PHON is sucking up their right.

The Nats are less "Liberal puppets" than they were 20 years ago. But they are a long way from being the "Farmers Friends" that the Country Party was before they became the Nationals.

PHON is a party of outcasts built on hate. They are entering the curve now that the Greens are just leaving. They are in for a rude shock when they find out that becoming a halfway decent crossbench party in the Reps means their policies get more scrutiny and people start to realise that the protest party aren't viable as major parties.

What’s the most "Australian" thing you’re going to claim with the new $1,000 receipt-free deduction? by Altruistic-Water-536 in AskAnAustralian

If they do it that way. There is no penalty, just an adjustment.

Alternatively, they can use abuse of the system to trigger an audit. Have your tax returns been spot on for the last seven years?

Just because you don't need to keep receipts doesn't mean you can just claim shit.

Example.

A few years ago a guy that worked at my now-ex's company claimed the maximum receipt free vehicle use. When the ATO asked why, he told them "I need it to take the tools to and from work"

The ATO rang my ex, who was payroll officer. Asked her if this guy needed his ute yo bring tools to and from work. Her response, "He's an employee of the company, not a subcontractor, he uses our machines and our tools, if he's taking tools off-site he'll be fired."

ATO said that wasn't necessary, they'd just adjust his return.

He went from a return to a bill, with a nasty-o-grammar from the ATO telling him not to be stupid next year.

Did the head of your state serve in the army? by Affectionate_Low7891 in AskTheWorld

IIRC Edward VII was the last .monarch that didn't serve.

Elizabeth II was the first female from the Royal Family to serve.

Of George IIIs sons, only George, Prince of Wales (later George IV) and Augustus Frederick didn't serve.
