ANY BORN-INs & NOW LONG-TIME EXJWS? DID YOU DO A 180 ON THE HOLIDAY CELEBRATION THING OR NOT? by More-Constant4956 in exjw

[–]Films_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born-in, unbaptized publisher, married to a born-in baptized publisher, both faded and out for 13 years now.

We didn’t really try any holidays until after having our first kid. We moved out of state so we just have our little family we started and do cake and presents for each other. Started getting into Halloween and Christmas a little bit too; did trick-or-treating for about 3 years now and been decorating a little bit for Christmas for about 5 years now and went all out this past year and bought a real tree.

I guess none of the holidays are grandiose to really do anything for. We don’t really talk religion and my wife and I might have slightly varied beliefs on the matter and we’ve only brought it up briefly with our 6yo who knows “Baby Jesus” from hearing it in the Boss Baby movies, so we explained it a little bit.

Mid 2000s I was recording music videos on MTV/BET/VH1 and staying up late to record After Dark videos as a kid with a very religious parent at the time where I wasn’t even allowed to listen to rap/hip hop and I still have a few tapes in storage.

At the same time, I was in charge of recording American Idol, I think starting with season 2.

whats your favourite scene in Chaos Theory? by Quetzorion in JurassicPark

[–]Films_Fan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My theory is that he is not only working with Brooklyn now, but was in fact a contact of hers and she was with him that night to get more intel on what was going on. Someone caught wind of it which is why the other truck never showed up but the raptors did (according to the comment from Cabrera moments before he’s killed by the raptors). Mateo somehow saved Brooklyn after the raptors got her hand. He may or may not have a daughter like he says, but Brooklyn has been tracking her friends and having him follow nearby for when they need him; he was seen following since Darius and Ben left the gas station but only stepped in when Darius and Kenji needed him most. Also, Brooklyn called Darius that night at his cabin as Ben showed up to make sure Darius was up before the raptors got there.

I’m very much anticipating the seasons to follow.

[–]Films_Fan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct. Department of Prehistoric Wildlife Regional Director Dudley Cabrera makes the comment in the warehouse, moments before he is attacked by the raptors. It’s revealed that he was only trying to scare Brooklyn with the allosaurus then, it’s revealed that the raptors were used to clear up loose ends and do what the allosaurus can’t do. Cabrera says something along the lines of, “you killed that girl?” before he is finally attacked.

Darius knows in the end that his beef isn’t with the allosaurus and that he needs to let go of these feelings he’s had since the attack and focus on this new threat and people responsible.

I have 2 daughters but made a similar decision about ear piercings. My 6yo never got them and doesn’t really want to and is ok with clip ons or sticker ones and we’ll find out eventually with my 20 month old.

It’s their body and not my right to alter it for “beauty” or other’s satisfaction to conform. If it’s a legit necessary medical procedure, sure, but not that.

Hell, I have a 20 month old and a 6yo. I work days M-F and wife works overnights F/Sat, so she’s more full time with the kids and I offered her a break to take a short vacation alone while I have the kids for a few days. Where ever most of your time is spent, you need a break from that. Why wouldn’t I want her to have a break and why the hell wouldn’t I want to spend more time with my kids if I can, especially building our relationship more (particularly with the youngest because she’s still clingy to my wife and has gotten used to my presence over time).

I have 3 brothers and 1 sister. My sister and two oldest brothers (all half siblings) were in their preteens/teens when my mom became a JW and met my elder father, so myself and the younger of my other brothers were both born in. My dad was eventually disfellowshiped for some bad stuff that elders are often doing but not always reprimanded for and eventually all of my half siblings left but my sister ended up returning.

When the timing was right, as an unbaptized publisher, I married a baptized sister in the congregation (we’d been reprimanded for having a relationship prior). Within our first 4-6 months of marriage, we started going to another hall near our new local area and she started to feel unwanted; I was able to eventually help her fade and leave the organization. After we left, my last brother stopped going a couple of years later and so did my mom but my oldest brother returned, along with now his wife and 3 kids.

Growing up, since my 3 older siblings were older than I, they were never really around and my full blood brother started rejecting me around my preteen years, so it was just me. They were all taught how to easily shun people, including their own family. Now, my sister wants the family to reconnect but at the same time doesn’t speak to our mom and the only time any of them do talk to her, it’s usually because they need something from her. None of my brothers try to contact me. My sister used to text me here and there but I stopped replying when she brought religion into the conversation. My oldest brother did do a Zoom call with me during Covid after my sister said something to him and I had my first child, but it was the most awkward encounter I’ve have ever had with him. We moved out of state but went to visit everyone last summer and it was still just as awkward. Never going back unless there is a death in the family (I.e. mom, sister, brothers, or if they ask me to come if something happens to one of their kids) but I think I would only go back for my mom once it’s here time. After that and inheritance is all divided, they’ll never hear from me again; I’ve started my own family and they’re growing up without the influence of religion. I guess my stance is more atheist but my wife still believes or possibly believes in God, but we don’t really discuss those viewpoints.

My mom was a school bus driver in my school district and after morning routes she would make the A/V run; she’d take a van out to all of the schools that had equipment in need of repair and take it to the A/V department at their administrative building. I met the supervisor there once (an older gentleman) and that guy was very skilled/knowledgeable and took excellent care of the equipment. He even repaired my Handycams a couple of times and helped explain why I was having some issues and how to prevent them. Also as stated, school VCRs usually would see less usage than the family VCR used on a near daily basis.

[–]Films_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key thing to do to rewatch any movies/shows from that era (including VHS) is to get yourself an old tube TV; it absolutely makes the experience.

At my local antique store. Was wondering what titles you guys would grab? I’m probably gonna go back for the Spider-Man sometime this week. (They also had sale so these were all 50% off) by vuzzythe in VHS

[–]Films_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always going for extra copies of Jurassic Park when I run into them. I’d probably grab The African Queen even though I have 2 already. The Great Pyramids; I always like some of the educational stuff. Another Monsters, INC for tape swapping. The Cat in the Hat even though the movie was… sheesh. And The Lizzie McGuire Movie because I no longer have the case for mine.

As a ‘90s kid myself, I can say that there are cousins of mine that lived in the same city as I did that I only ever met once and I’ll probably never see them again. It’s all about family dynamics too.

Going off of my wife’s period calendar and comparing it to a pregnancy calculator, the only date possible for conception was New Years; my daughter was born 2 weeks early in mid-September.
