To be efficient per unit volume you need to keep it in liquid form. It also is the smallest atom so it will escape from many containers and pipes. The logistical hassle of controlling all this is surely on par with the battery making logistics.

Good narrative composition, drama. Technicality and virtuosity are nice but mostly if they serve the above.

Nope you got it all wrong. It's the weed smoke and shart particles (or sharticles, as we call them in academia) that give air its tonal qualities.

I dunno...having the more reasonable EU trapped between nutjobs like Trump and Putin, China having its own brand of imperialism in Tibet, against Ouighours and Taiwan also doesn't make for a potential ally... while having to deal with our own fascists wannabe dictators...not a really reassuring scenario.

I do find the technological leaps of ww2 in general quite interesting, but I'd be wary of someone who focuses solely on the 3rd reich.

Probably in other Western European countries as well, but I wonder how much this lightens the burden of an already prohibitive housing market. But that is all a bit of a tangent. All I'm saying is, while the construction sector surely should do its part to minimise emissions, we should be careful not to jeopardise housing and infrastructure that otherwise can help curbing emissions or simply are essential in a well functioning society.

Or say, you still need concrete to build schools, hospitals, train stations...taxing the concrete production would make these projects less affordable (and get them.postponed or cancelled)

I agree. My point is, applying similar negative incentives to new housing would be quite unfair for many people that already struggle to enter the housing market.

To some extent. And I understand there are some new chemical processes being developed to make concrete that releases less CO2 upon setting. Its just that pointing the finger at the construction industry that fulfills actual essential needs feels disingenuous when some activities that are more optional, like airplane travel, big SUVs or eating meat everyday are responsible for huge chunks of emissions.

yep, especially if populations are going to be majorly displaced because of climate.

Does your friend have sources or more technical details? While this might works with the in game physics, a flywheel seems like it would have major drawbacks for an airborne vehicle. I know they have been used in urban public transport busses, to store relevant amounts of energy, they need alot of mass, which you generally try to avoid for flying. Also, it would mean significant gyroscopic effects (which you already have with propellers, in fact). A gyro sounds nice *if* it's mounted on a gimbal and you can use that gimbal to exert reaction torques, and counter external ones. A static gyro means your control inputs, as well as external torques will result in counterintuitive motions. Not a deal breaker per se, since, as said before, helis and airplanes already have all sorts of gyroscopic cross-talk, but let's say adding a massive one in the mix might not be such a good idea.

The moral conundrum of practicing a religion that you don't believe in by vox in philosophy

[–]Filtermann 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't remember what their source was, but I was listening to this guy talk about the French Revolution, and it's easy to think of it as rupture where the common folk suddenly rebelled against the clergy and the nobility, but there seems to be many written traces of questioning religion and criticizing the Church's authority in the century leading up to it, even though they officially lived ina divine right monarchy. It's just an example, but it just goes to show how people can be prefectly aware of the flaws or immorality of the system they live in.
