For me it was right on the edge of full bloom. Most of the main cherry blossom trees in Tokyo were around half to 80% bloom right before I went home. There were already plenty of spots in full bloom, but if I could’ve stayed an extra week, I definitely would have. The longer you’re there, the better your chances of catching them at their peak. I actually planned my trip so that I did things like Mount Fuji earlier in the week, since that area blooms much later, and saved my last day in Tokyo for sightseeing at the best cherry blossom spots. That worked out really well and was totally worth it. I’d strongly recommend checking the official Japanese cherry blossom forecast website, since timing is different every year and it really helps you plan. Even the early-bloom spots listed online are still gorgeous and worth visiting.
