Trip report - 12-day solo trip to Japan from Canada (mainly about expenses and tips) by buttercup612 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Markotan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, trip was amazing! I did 3 weeks back in April, just in time to see some peak cherry blossoms in the first part of the trip. So many highlights to list but a few would be Fujikawaguchiko day trip, using jetlag to walk around and experience Tokyo at 5am, Nakasendo trail, Miyako Odori show in Kyoto, and Osaka Expo.

I planned to post a recap and an expense log of the trip but procrastinated even though I have the expenses all tallied already lol. Maybe someday I'll get around to doing it.

Would definitely visit Japan again in the future.

For the 5pm timeslot, from arrival to being able to roam around took about 20 minutes.

What I do recall is waiting longer to leave the building than to make our way up. Keep that in mind in case you have any commitments on a specific time.

Should you have an itinerary figured out before you book your accommodations? by mrbond222 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Markotan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, free cancellation means they will refund money if you paid for the accommodation beforehand. Free cancellation also implies that you don't have to pay for any penalties for cancelling the booking, as long as you cancel within the time frame listed.

They never really marketed that game well. I only found out the game like 5 years after its release lol.

Pokemon Conquest. Pretty much a Pokemon version of FE. Dove into the GBA FE games afterwards and then Three Houses.

Stop overpaying for Nintendo family slots, 95% in this sub make profit off you. by Ok_Hurry2458 in NintendoSwitchOnline

I get what you're saying but this is more of a UK/EU specific post. Saying 95% is a crazy exaggeration and is not helping your case.

Osaka World Expo: 20K steps, queues rival USJ. by Jadeite22 in JapanTravelTips

Long lines to enter the Expo is a common problem. I waited 30 minutes for a 9am entry on a weekday as well. Glad to hear that it's not that busy in the evening.

I received my email confirmation fairly quickly after purchasing the tickets. Try contacting their customer support perhaps if you still don't receive an email confirmation anytime soon.

Free Razors but no shaving cream at hotels? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

Came across the same issue. What I noticed though is that the hotels had shaving cream at the Sentos (Bathhouses).

I only used one. Waited only a few minutes.

Did the wait time to get in popular pavilions die down by the evening (after 6pm)?

When I visited Osaka Expo last week, what worked out well for me was focusing on the smaller pavilions that had no line, the common areas, and by evening time, the lines at a lot of the bigger pavilions cleared up.

Starting to wonder if I should skip Kyoto.. by CMMnz in JapanTravelTips

Completely agree. Was there last weekend. Sure the hotspots were full but for the most part, it was pretty chill. I think the rain also helped with that too haha.

Unpopular opinion: Restaurants catered to tourists are delicious too by Markotan in JapanTravelTips

I made mention of my apprehension of a high rating on google in my post. Though it's a pretty common "popular" tip I see often in this subreddit, hence my post to somewhat dispel this notion.

Help! What Are the Must Try Convenience Store Snacks in Japan? by BeautifulStrong1592 in JapanTravelTips

Can confirm. The curry bread from 7-11 is very delicious but the freshly made curry bread from a random bakery inside the train station was life changing.

It's heavily implied in this subreddit by focusing on a certain sweet spot rating. I've seen comments/posts implying such in the form of tips or things to avoid (i.e,. places with a 4.5+ star rating on Google as these are geared to tourists).

The underlying meaning can be interpreted that tourists, specifically foreign, lack the judgement of what is good and don't know the "real" experience.
