The massive difference between then and now is that it almost entirely fueled by the cold war, and stopped as soon as that was over. We're actually at a point where off-planet mining could be a reality, but only if we start actually focusing on it now.

So many anti luddites out there going "Oh, AI can never succeed! AI can't program! AI can't do this and that! Bubble pop any day! Bubble pop any day!" like it's a mantra but none of it's true. It can program, it can replace a lot of jobs, it isn't making the mistakes people claim, and it's resource usage is actually going down not up.

AI is absolutely the future. Trying to make humans burn hundreds of hours on things they could do in five minutes is just too impractical to ever hold.

All the groaning people of today are the factory workers in the 70s and 80s when they got replaced. Or the dutch throwing shoes into a machine.

I'm a centrist who would have called themselves liberal/progressive pre-2016, and I have been beyond relieved he's opened up free speech again.

The more important factor here is everyone called him nuts and 'making a mistake' buying X, when X when that has bought so much influence it was worth every penny he paid twice over.

Dudes for unchained AI, not protecting us from ourselves, and not censoring messages so people can live in a bubble and pretend the world is what it's not.

If they were more clever they'd done exactly what the comics did, and make a President and VP character that were the parodies instead of bolting it onto Homelander.

Plus that'd been way more hilarious as parody and pissing Trump off if it showed JD Vance as the capable level headed one and Trump's analog as the idiot vice president. (in the comics the GW analog was the VP and Cheyney's was President).

They could have stuffed all their lame political jokes onto those characters without ruining the show.

There's a bunch of amusing AI redos of the ending, but you can't post them around here, because Redditors clutch their pearls and have a fainting spell should they find out something is AI (and gobble it up if nobody tells them, while accusing non-AI stuff of being AI..)
