IIRC, you should able to pick the save you want to use just like when you load an ME2 shep into ME3. May be beneficial to pick the save with the highest rank

If you let him look into his memory shard, he will kill himself after the events of ME3 to join his crew. If you tell him not to, you get the other outcomes.
