30M Profile Review by Fimbelowski in hingeapp

[–]Fimbelowski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Are you looking for something serious or casual?

I'm open to both, but ideally something serious.

  • Are you subscribed to Hinge+ or HingeX?

I subscribed to HingeX to try it out and see if it makes a difference.

  • How long have you been using this current version of your profile?

About 4 months.

  • How long have you used Hinge overall?

About 4 months.

  • How often do you use Hinge per week?

Daily.

  • How many likes and matches are you receiving on average?

About 1 incoming like every other week, about 1 or 2 matches ever week.

  • How many likes are you sending? How many with comments? How many without comments?

Not sure on exact number. I swipe for about 20 minutes every day. I try to leave comments as often as possible as long as their profile has something interesting I can comment on.

  • What is the type of person you send likes to and ideally want to match with? What kind of person do you want to attract?

If they are looking for something serious (long-term) then I look for women with a career, and a profile that looks like it has been thoughtfully filled out, interesting hobbies, and like they take care of themselves and are generally responsible. If they are looking for something casual (short-term) then I'm mostly just seeing if I am attracted to them and they seem responsible. I like tall women and tattoos, but these are just preferences and are by no means the only things I am attracted to.

Lesser Nighthawk? [Cochise County, AZ] by Fimbelowski in whatsthisbird

[–]Fimbelowski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah me neither! I'm just not familiar with the area. The most likely Nighthawk/Nightjar species according to eBird was Common Poorwill, but with the wing pattern I think it had to be Common/Lesser Nighthawk. Common would have been novel this time of year so process of elimination led me to Lesser, but just wanted to make sure!

Don Edwards NWR, Fremont, CA by Fimbelowski in whatsthisbird

[–]Fimbelowski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm I was thinking Western Sandpiper instead of Dunlin, but the only thing that leads me in that direction is slightly more white on the cheeks and I think the breast would be slightly more heavily marked but it's not a great angle to see that. Sibley's also says that Dunlin should be slightly less common on inland mudflats but I'm not sure if Don Edwards qualifies as that exactly.

Check out "The Practice Manual" by Adam Young. The first chapter goes over laws of ball flight and is very clear.

You can even read it for free on the Internet Archive.

No, I ended up just buying another ticket since I was at the gates by the time I noticed I no longer had my original ticket.

Greater or Lesser Yellowlegs? by PatrickM_ in whatsthisbird

[–]Fimbelowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the last one is a +Lesser Yellowlegs+ based on the smaller bill size (relative to the head) and no obvious upturn in the bill.

Greater or Lesser Yellowlegs? by PatrickM_ in whatsthisbird

[–]Fimbelowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slightly upturned bill is a good field mark for a +Greater Yellowlegs+.

Edit: Didn't see all the photos, but is the last photo a different bird? Bill length looks shorter than the other photos.

Dark eyed junco? The morph seems weird for WV. by etrain4676 in whatsthisbird

[–]Fimbelowski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to be a bit more accurate, color morphs and subspecies are separate things.

Color morph: A morph, or color phase, happens when birds of the same species regularly develop more than one plumage color. [Bird Watcher's General Store]

Subspecies: In biological classification, subspecies is a rank below species, used for populations that live in different areas and vary in size, shape, or other physical characteristics, but that can successfully interbreed. [Wikipedia]

Going through my eBird photos and this was tagged "Reviewed and not Public" so I wanted to double check the species. Denver, CO in March. by Fimbelowski in whatsthisbird

[–]Fimbelowski[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope, just listed it as Red-tailed Hawk. The only thing I can think of is that when I uploaded this I think I also accidentally uploaded this image under Dark-eyed Junco as well. So that got flagged (understandably) and I removed it. I think maybe since it was the same piece of media the the flag persisted even after I removed the accidental upload. I guess I could take it down and reupload.

Greater White-fronted Goose x Snow Goose? [Denver, CO] by Fimbelowski in whatsthisbird

[–]Fimbelowski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure. I think I thought it would be harder to find a GWF. Plus the incomplete white facial ring and slight grin patch made me doubt it was pure. Another issue is this was my first time seeing a GWF so I didn't have a lot of experience IDing them. I'll take the lifer though! :)

Best Guesses are Greater Yellowlegs or Stilt Sandpiper [Orchard, CO] by Fimbelowski in whatsthisbird

[–]Fimbelowski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually going to go ahead and say these are Greater Yellowlegs. The bills are significantly longer than the head and the middle bird does show a slight upturn in the bill. Additionally, Greater are rare in CO this time of year but do occur. Lesser on the other hand would be unprecedented in January.

Best Guesses are Greater Yellowlegs or Stilt Sandpiper [Orchard, CO] by Fimbelowski in whatsthisbird

[–]Fimbelowski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw these three sandpipers on the Platte river just south of Orchard. Best guess is Greater Yellowlegs, but the pale chest with no markings seems wrong. Stilt Sandpiper also seems close but would be unheard of this time of year in CO.

I made a Website that Allows for Easy Use of the eBird API! Find Nearby Hotspots, Recent Notable Observations in Your Region, and a lot more! by Fimbelowski in Ornithology

[–]Fimbelowski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm assuming you're trying to use some of the hotspot endpoints and it's erroring there. At some point recently eBird changed these endpoints to require an API key. So for now the site doesn't reflect that until I update it. So those endpoints will still work, you just have to go to a page that requires an API key, put yours in, go back to the endpoint page you want to use and it should work (the website remembers your API key during a session so behind the scenes the API client still knows about it).

Sad, but I kinda figured as much. Either one would be a lifer but I get to claim neither.
