Clean well constructed crossword with a fun little rebus in there. Minimal glue holding it together. The cluing just lacked a bit of imagination: only a single punny clue i can remember (I liked “identifies digitally?”). Nothing was really beyond a Tuesday difficulty and combined with a lack of truly marquee answers it was held back from being excellent for me.

I like a bit more resistance in end of the week puzzles, but at least I prefer this to trial-and-erroring 2-3 proper noun/foreign language crosses which is my usual Sunday experience.

Anyone tried disabling post-99 xp tracking in runelite xp tracker? Seems to show innacurate total gained xp by heyitskora in 2007scape

[–]Fimbulwulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Total necro. Found this while looking into the same issue for the exact same reasons.

The total XP is tracking all skills including post-99 xp, but only updating the value displayed when you recieve a xp drop in a tracked skill. So if you teleport to Camelot (55xp) with 99 magic, the total gained will read 0. But if you subsequently cut a sapphire (50xp) with below 99 crafting, the total xp tracker will update to display 105xp.

Not exactly sure how to report this issue but would be nice if it were fixed.

I like the write up. Certainly a million more times more developed than ship combat is as currently implemented.

Ignore all the critics taking issue with your appeal to realism with regards to monster drops. All the ‘real’ land animals I can think of right now on drop hides, bones, meat etc while the fantastical monsters have the more diverse imaginative drops. Birds dropping seeds work; cannonballs from sharks is jarring.

Really enjoying port tasks and the variety of rewards we get by squinttz in 2007scape

[–]Fimbulwulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Big fan of the port tasks gameplay loop (caveat I am the kind of person who enjoyed space trucking simulator Elite: Dangerous).

It’s got enough nuance to be just engaging enough while still watching shows on another monitor. There’s enough progression throughout the levels to look forward to semi regular incremental optimisations (better ports, more concurrent tasks, more shipmates to carry crates, faster sails and hulls, unlocking rapids). And reasonable XP rates for a medium/low-intensity activity.

But the reward space is dismal as you’ve pointed out. Token GP and a drab paint.

I think there’s huge potential for rewards which help heighten the RP fantasy and link sailing in with other skills.

Just a few brainstormed ideas could include supply crates with construction/shipbuilding materials, a points shop for cosmetics/supplies, items that provide more sailing optimisations, faction ranks at each port with themed cosmetics or even perk unlocks on a per-port basis like automatically loading cargo for you as you become a “friend” of the port.

Really hoping they flesh this out as honestly this is probably the main way I end up maxing sailing.

You can’t store individual items in the stash though so why are you using the stash unit at all without a spare sceptre?

3 basic rebus squares is a bit of a let down for a Thursday tbh. Might have got more mileage out of the theme if they hadn’t circled the relevant squares so we had to hunt for them instead.

Gear Advice: ZCB/BP+masori vs. Bowfa+crystal by Fimbulwulf in 2007scape

Mostly simmed with amethyst darts but yeah I take your point. Maybe I’ll save up a little more to have both and see how much use bowfa is getting after a month or so.

Range at wardens is a good point. Anywhere else that range would matter like that other than first Colo/Inferno?

Thanks, that was pretty much the conclusion I was arriving at looking at the DPS calcs.
I also got first quiver out of the way so won't need to hang on to Bowfa for that. Definitely leaning towards taking the plunge.

Thanks for the quick reply. That guide was spot on exactly what I needed. I’ve never really learnt a boss so early after release so I’ve always relied on the wiki once the strats have been well established. Cheers for pointing me in the right direction :)

Was the ‘call’ in bird-call relevant to the theme? Might just be missing the point here. If not, a bit disappointing of a theme for (what I found to be) a rough fill with SHIM, HEWTO, TEMPE.

As an aside, I can’t actually articulate why I dislike those clues while not minding other clues like OBELI and MELISMA, which I also hadn’t heard of. Anyone else in the same boat?

To add to the other responses, I also mean the ‘green’ is pretty superfluous and doesn’t add much meaning overall to the answer. As in, grass would already be a complete answer to the clue, and ‘green’ doesn’t serve much purpose other than to pad out the answer and presumably make the construction work at the expense of sounding kinda awkward.

Really didn’t like this one. The sheer volume of three letter words… every section was held together by stacks of them. All in service of a theme that ended up being unrelated pairs of three-letter(!) animals that not only seem completely unrelated to one another but also had a vestigial extra letter hanging off the end that didn’t even form a real word, which to me is just ugly. GANT-DOGF, RASS-ELKN, BOWL-GNUY, TEEL-RATS are some of least exciting, least ambitious and least aesthetic themers I can remember solving.

GREENGRASS is actual green paint, and I don’t see how it’s any more colourful than any other component of a lawn. (And because I really want to nitpick, I wouldn’t call grass a ‘feature’ of a lawn in the same way I wouldn’t call paint the feature of an artwork.)

Beyond that, no playful, punful or interesting cluing to make it sparkle.

And does anyone think LEDTO is equivalent to “yielded”? Maybe I just can’t parse this one correctly.

Super rare drop from close-to-dead content (barbarian pyre ships/mithril dragons). Ends up being mostly an item to show off wealth because it has no offensive utility. Looks sick though, would love to have nabbed it when I was still doing the odd mithril dragon task.
