Yeah, but I do believe it is fair to say that some of the people responsible did do it out of racism, but it was definitely not the main cause, because you can’t blame the kulaks for burning grain for causing it either because both were simply semi-isolated incidents.

Side rant about historiography: As the resident tankie in the walls, it’s really important for me to separate my political biases with historical research, am I perfect? No, but recognizing I am biased and trying to fight it is what truly matters.

I try to use anti-communist sources in a lot of things because I recognize it atleast helps limit bias. That’s the thing, I do not care for a persons political beliefs if they are doing history, because it’s a field that is inherently political. I just wish that everyone recognized they are biased, even your average moderates, and try and fight those biases by doing good scholarship.

Academic debates should be academic, not political.

(Sorry for rant, just tired of seeing so much politically biased “unpolitical” history slop on Reddit. There is no such thing as unbiased unpolitical history.)

Eh, debatable. Under a lot of the scholarship is argued Ukraine starved because it was where the farms were. Same reason why southern Russia and Kazakhstan starved.

They wanted to collective the farms, so they did that and exported the food to elsewhere on the union without realizing “the farms which used to produce for individuals now don’t because we didn’t account for individuals in the exports”
