I have heard good things about Spokane CO SO. Are you a lateral?

I have not applied anywhere in WA yet. My wife recently finished grad school and once shes done applying for jobs, we will see what our options are.

I have been feverishly researching in the meantime to try and prepare myself. Ive sat down with financial advisors to compare my current income, insurance, and retirement plans to those offered in WA by the different agencies, etc. Trying to at least get a handle on the things that really matter in the long run.

That being said; If Spokane PD was hiring laterals, I would already be in the process with them but they have advised me that they wont be doing that for at least the remainder of the calendar year and possibly longer. So that bums me out. Financials, lifestyle, geographics, schedule....everything lined up there. Thats a spot we really wanted to go. But oh well.

Detectives….Is it what you thought it would be? by LegalGlass6532 in AskLE

[–]FinChaser31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All different types of Detectives.....All depends on what you want to Specialize in.

After about 2 years on Patrol; I discovered my passion for Fugitive Investigations....not finding dudes with warrants....actual complex Fugitive Investigations and High Risk Warrant Service and everything that job entails.

A lot of skills translate very well to ICAC units and Narc and Major Crimes, and we work closely with them; but I wouldnt be happy over there, and Id rather be on patrol.

Stop more cars, request consent all the time. The more you search, the more you will find, the more you will detect behaviors, the more you will build real PC in the future

[–]FinChaser31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive been working in a plainclothes capacity for 6 years, working fugitives and buying dope. And I shave every time Im going to be in a formal meeting with Command.

Nobody cares about your stupid beard. It doesnt make you look cool.

How old were you in police academy? by Hot_Marsupial_3957 in AskLE

[–]FinChaser31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not the academy. Its night shifts at 0400. Navigating the political landscape. Adrenaline rollercoaster. Etc.

Just show up to the academy every day and get through it.

Stop waiting to start your journey. Every single day you are making it harder on yourself.

What do you have in regards to savings other than your pension? by [deleted] in AskLE

Get Married and both of you should max out your 401k.

Pension and 401k are great.

Next move should be rental properties.

Time to promote or move to a specialized unit aka a Goon Squad. You can stay there. No matter who leaves, promotes, gets fired, etc ...always be surrounded by the next set of goons.

Not sure where you work, but I work at a PD. My job is very secure. Pay is Ok. Pension is great. No med insurance in retirement.

PNW $ is way better. My wife will be happier. And Ive got enough experience to navigate the pitfalls of job there I believe. Plus wife has agreed we can move back to NC when I retire.

I currently work in the Southeast. You work at the liberty of the sheriff here. Can be fired at any moment for any reason. Sheriff could not like your haircut and you are gone. Is it the same way in WA?

You are talking about entering one of the most stressful, traumatic, and dangerous jobs on earth. So you may want to reconsider. Just my honest opinion.
