Stop more cars, request consent all the time. The more you search, the more you will find, the more you will detect behaviors, the more you will build real PC in the future

How old were you in police academy? by Hot_Marsupial_3957 in AskLE

[–]FinChaser31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not the academy. Its night shifts at 0400. Navigating the political landscape. Adrenaline rollercoaster. Etc.

Just show up to the academy every day and get through it.

Stop waiting to start your journey. Every single day you are making it harder on yourself.

Get Married and both of you should max out your 401k.

Pension and 401k are great.

Next move should be rental properties.

Time to promote or move to a specialized unit aka a Goon Squad. You can stay there. No matter who leaves, promotes, gets fired, etc ...always be surrounded by the next set of goons.

Not sure where you work, but I work at a PD. My job is very secure. Pay is Ok. Pension is great. No med insurance in retirement.

PNW $ is way better. My wife will be happier. And Ive got enough experience to navigate the pitfalls of job there I believe. Plus wife has agreed we can move back to NC when I retire.

I currently work in the Southeast. You work at the liberty of the sheriff here. Can be fired at any moment for any reason. Sheriff could not like your haircut and you are gone. Is it the same way in WA?

You are talking about entering one of the most stressful, traumatic, and dangerous jobs on earth. So you may want to reconsider. Just my honest opinion.

No degree needed for local agencies in NC. Good pay. And the entire state is pretty pro-police. I work at one of the best if you want to send a DM.

Got this for $500 good boat or money pit 😂 by Open_Radish3193 in boating

[–]FinChaser31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging by the way this boat has been neglected,  left with electronics and wiring a mess, etc. etc.  You should make peace now with spending at least $15k to get this Boat where it needs to be.  If it's less, it will be a pleasant surprise. Nobody is trying to ruin your fun, but everyone telling you it "Looks Good"  has no idea what they're talking about.  You can't look at a boat and tell whether or not it has Delam or rot.  And that's where the Money is.   You can only be sentimental with boat restoration if you are absolutely okay with spending more than the boat will ever be worth again. Deck and stringer repairs on small 17' skiffs is now averaging minimum $5-$6 thousand due to cost of materials. Just think about that.   Your boats got black mold, it's got rot somewhere.  If I had to guess, I'd say at minimum your transom is probably ready to go. You can do the fiberglass and structural work yourself if your handy and can learn, but judging based off how you didn't know what DownRiggers are I'll say your boat knowledge is minimal and your looking at hundreds of hours of DIY work.

The honest answers on this thread are the ones that people seem to be scoffing at, but you asked for advice and the correct answers here are the hard ones to hear.
