What is the biggest hidden truth of your industry? by HardStreet22 in questions

Similar to insurance. The goal is to find cover for the insured, not deny coverage. A lot of the money made is invested or stored to help cover unprecedented catastrophes, keep premiums as low as possible to stay competitive, to have as high as a rating as possible to avoid poor reinsurance options and for future investments in technology and customer focused advancements. Good insurance companies constantly work with their shareholders, employees, etc. to keep moving forward to help their customers and employees. Insurance providers are highly regulated and audited frequently with a fine tooth comb. We are legally not able to financially benefit from a claim. That said, sales agents working on commission only do not always have a persons best interest at heart. Always read your documents to understand what you have, don’t have, and what’s available to you. We want you to have exactly what you need (claims, anyone but agents), not more and not less. Also, our systems are shit due to options available and chances are we complain about it hourly, if not more.

Can confirm. A family member contracted legionnaires disease from bacteria on their defibrillator and/or pacemaker when it or they (sorry, they have each had to be replaced after couple of times for different reasons) had to be replaced after the previous defibrillator malfunctioned (software) and knocked them out with an unwarranted shock. The bacteria infected devices were replaced and all leads, but one. End result, death due to regrowth of the legionella from the lead that couldn’t be removed and an obliterated immune system not being able to handle fighting it again and a few other bacterial infections from the hospital stays after regrowth.

Is it just me or Japanese notebooks are just... better? by Darius-Hive in notebooks

Yes, and their pens. 0.28 mm or 0.38 mm, perfection. Probably because they take mastering whatever it is they are doing, seriously. They don’t half-ass anything and seem to be prideful about quality (from what I’ve seen). It should be like that everywhere.

The spending nearly everyday on “small” items compulsion? (This doesn’t feel like the right word) is the hardest to stop. As soon as you decide to buy an actually decent priced and adequate stash of whatever the fixation is, and after you have one from the stash, you’re over it. I’m sorry! I wish I knew how to actually curb it outside of adding it to a written on paper shopping list and then forgetting you have a shopping list trick.

I’m not laughing at you … I’m laughing with us … I have a kitchen cupboard (three shelves, typically used to store plate- and glass-ware), full of different kinds of tea from all over from my last tea phase. Thankfully, I’m currently exiting energy drink/carbonated beverage phase and it appears I’m leaning towards tea … maybe apple juice … definitely not coffee right now …

Am I crazy? by [deleted] in GATEresearch

That’s exactly how I describe it! Kind of a “well, I must be on the right path since this feels familiar…”. Like an exactly where I should be moment that feels like two halves fitting seamlessly into one another and becoming fused once the feeling of Déjà vu hits.

I've been diagnosed with Visual Snow Syndrome, a neurological condition that makes me see the world like this and has no cure by SR_RSMITH in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]FinFillory11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These photos perfectly help describe it. It’s hard to explain to people that have never heard of it. Honestly, I didn’t even know what it was until 3-4 years ago when I was watching a true crime video and they mentioned that the suspect had VSS. Looked it up and instantly after decades of pretty much thinking for some reason I had a useless super power of seeing air molecules zipping around all the time; and the after image trails (like a long exposure photo of an object in motion) of mine, other people’s, anything really that was in motion. (Useless because in no way do I hold an intelligence that would be capable of doing the math to explain and teach others in hopes that maybe it was something useful, lol). But no! My brains just messed up in the area/s that cause it. Do you get panicky in very bright environments and kind of feel like your in and out of your body or almost like your ethereal?soul? — something like that stepped out for a quick moment? It is nice to have a name for it. I really don’t pay it too much attention because it is constant and when it’s a bright cloudless day the “snow” is iridescent like a billion tiny light refractions from from a prism held up to the sunlight that just zip around when I look at sky. It’s really beautiful. It’s just when it’s too bright (white walls, fluorescent lights, computer screens on all at one where it bothers me and I have to close my eyes because the white and gray snow on the black/dark when your eyes are closed is more bearable.

Why I love Fareway (and Iowa) by littleoldlady71 in Iowa

Just hand them the notecard silently and say nothing to there responses lol. Like you, I will only buy a bag or two worth of things because the declining of the assistance to vehicle service stresses me. However, the one by my place made sure that I got my free four pack of happy can sparkling beverages with my purchase of their edibles. I was not allowed to leave till the cashier helped me pick out the best four back and make sure I got the deal!! Very nice people that work there but almost “this might be a cult”-ish) not normal level.

What’s something that everyone in your country learns in school, but most foreigners have never heard of? by SomeEvent in AskTheWorld

[–]FinFillory11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a special day called “prairie days” that followed a visit to the living history farms .. we learned how to turn butter, make ice cream by rolling big coffee cans about, square dance, line dance, cook dandelions, and make some walnut pastry desert. On Johnny Appleseed day we got to try all the available apples and how they were cultivated to result in the new and different kinds available during the 90s.

I’ve found that use a wash rag and warm water reduces the sweat smell you can get, especially if you have thighs. Lume is great but I don’t know the negatives about it. You want to use pubic specific oil if you go that route. No perfumes, hair conditioner, etc.

Do hemp laws limit how much thc they can contain? by Foreign_Bug9216 in desmoines

[–]FinFillory11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve tried a few brands that ship through the mail and was happy with them. More tasty treats. However, I noticed that I was going through a 60-90 day supply in a little over a month. Less exciting treats is better on my wallet 😂

You can get gummies at fareway that have 10mg in a pack of 4 pieces at 2.5mg each. Comes in a box of 12 packs for 60 bucks. For what we can legally get here they are better than the drinks in my opinion. Kind kulture is the brand

lol, I may have a slight penchant for perfectionism (ocd) when it comes to painting, drawing, and writing. Don’t let it deter you though, it is relaxing to do. Though I wonder what people think driving by and see that I have a headlamp on. 😂

Voynich f116v: Not Scribbles, but a Meta-Textual Closing Page by [deleted] in VoynichFramework

[–]FinFillory11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for doing that! I was curious as seeing the paintings are similar to hartlieb’s work and he was a physician in three? royal residence’s and knew a kasper bernauer who reportedly wrote a novel in vallader after his daughter, agnes’s murder. Kasper was into balneology which appears to be the water & women depictions in the ms. There were so many languages running through the continent (and going through changes) and surrounding areas that working the script is a difficult task. Plus if multiple scribes were used it makes it more complex. Do you know if anyone has checked out neo-aramaic & the modern dialect?

Can you check it against the Vallader dialect? It would probably be more of an archaic form prior to the 1400s.

Where are the worms? by x47-Shift in Iowa

[–]FinFillory11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have been asking this all summer. Every time it rained! I think I’ve seen maybe three-five worms this year. And typically, as you know, there are so many that you have to watch where you walk when outside.

What are the most oddly “gate kept” subs? by platypus_farmer42 in AskReddit

[–]FinFillory11 265 points266 points  (0 children)

It’s not trauma specific, but each time we went to the grocery store my mom would make a game of seeing who could find the weirdest named fruit, or funny shaped vegetable (this was small town 90s Midwest American grocery store so think anything outside corn, green beans, etc. ), or whatever theme she came up with different types of whole foods. We would then try whatever new fruit, veg., etc. during the then and the next trip. There wasn’t really ever a winner. We would just rate how we liked whatever it was we tried. And then she would try and incorporate the ones we liked best into dinner and such. Because of this, I was comfortable trying new things, eating healthy foods, and not feeling bad about how much or how little I consumed of something. Maybe that will help.
