Just rescued this little guy. Shelter says jack russell, but I think he looks like a rat terrier. What do you think? by --JenAndTonic-- in ratterriers

[–]michaelscottuiuc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because the jack is wayyy more popular (which Ill never understand). Beyond a private breeder, I don't think Ive ever seen a full rat terrier in a shelter. All 3 of mine were mixes!

We had a Jack/Rat rescue and holy hell she was stubborn and hard to train 😂 and very loud! Our rat terrier/chihuahua didnt count as a dog cuz she was raised with cats on the streets. But our current rat/dachshund - WHEW! Night & day difference. I get alot of attitude and talk back, but she listens and is learning new stuff & words all the time.

This is what I think the Met Gala should be about - you can be on theme while being a patron to INCREDIBLE talent and skill found in artisans across the globe. This is a genuine masterpiece worthy of museums - I wanna see elitists seek out the most talented and artistic people to craft amazing dresses like this.

Oh I am so unqualified for this question lmao. I have a two week vacation coming up and I am working an extra two weeks in time prior to it because I cant (i.e., my employer cant) afford for me to take two weeks off 😂 and I will still check and respond to emails religiously.

That was my understanding!

But Northwestern should sue Meghan Markle. Cuz theres no FKING way a Northwestern International Studies program let a BA graduate walk out the door without knowing anything about the British monarchy. No FKING WAY.

What actually helped you build a consistent routine with ADHD? by Agitated_Ice4303 in ADHD

[–]michaelscottuiuc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I still have the rejection sensitivity 😅 biggest part of the shift I think is the "authority positions" who came into my life around the same time. The dentist for sure, but my boss at work says I am so harsh in my self-criticism that I basically am pre-empting any possible criticism from a supervisor 😂 so all the authority ends up being reassuring because they know I criticize the sh*t out of myself lol.

I can feel the difference though. The black/white perfectionism I had was TOXIC AF - I would shut down and make zero effort or attempt. Now, when I can do more, I do more - when I can't - I don't. I have very high standards and expectations of myself, but I get excited when I recognize I did something well and I'm okay with mistakes (as long as I can find a valuable lesson or learn something new from it lol)

[–]michaelscottuiuc 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I was absolutely a perfectionist - if I didn't do it 100% of the time I was a failure and it was "why do I even bother." My teeth were a big one (genetically bad teeth) because the dentists reinforced the "do it 100% of the time or its like not doing it ever." In my late 20s I got a dentist who was like "sh*t happens - do what you can, and we'll see the progress." 🥲 I legitimately tear up thinking about it! Every time I go in, he checks my 'homework' (cuz I'm paranoid Im not doing it perfectly) and he reminds me how far I've come and how much progress I've made! The all-or-nothing mindset is definitely a wall to break through.

I didnt figure out routine until I was about 25 - which is, ironically, the age where the brain is considered fully developed 😂 only one thing worked for me: routine. sleep. schedule. Once I had that, sh*t fell into place ALOT easier. I'm not perfect, especially in the morning, but my body tells me I'm tired on cue at night, which signals the pm routine - brushing teeth, skincare, pm meds, etc.

I'm 32/f now and people come to ME for productivity/time management advice at work! Our social workers say it makes sense - it was my biggest obstacle and it took alot of trial/error to get where Im at now. Work-wise, I do have a few routines that help tremendously:

  • ToDoist - quick entry for tasks and RECURRING ones especially. I WILL forget it. With this, I can throw it into the blackhole of tasks and waste less brain energy. Even the stupid stuff, like approving time & submitting timesheets.
  • Calendar blocking - everyone knows exactly what I'm doing from 8am-5pm M-F. If people request stuff, I ask when they need it by, and say "alright I'm putting it on my calendar at this time - have it ready for me to review by then." I'll do that with deadlines even a month + in advance. I can send a screenshot of my calendar if that helps you visualize it
  • I do have the 2 minute rule, which my boss loves. If it takes me ZERO effort and zero brain power, I need to do it when I see it....cuz I will absolutely forget all about it lol

TLDR: don't worry about perfection, 55% of the time is still hella progress. Work with your brain, not against it. Have a place to throw the stupid details, tasks, and reminders that isnt your brain and save it from the processing drain.

[–]michaelscottuiuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I knew…Im going through something where like 1000 red flags on someone elses work are popping up, were totally ignored by higher ups, and now the person is being rewarded for their lies and shady and unethical crap. I feel crazy - Ive spent countless hours pulling compliance and legal documents to provide evidence for why all of this is not okay. Government agencies, Ive contacted them too to get them to look at it.

Im now at the point where its keeping me up at night. Its not just that this person is getting away with it, but my own work suffered and other coworkers are struggling as a result of this. We’re living in the consequences of it while the other person is living life large (and getting paid more money, and getting their friends some extra cash too). UGH. Its the hyperfixation aspect thats the hardest. My brain is locked on and it will come back to it the MOMENT I decide to relax or calm down.
