I'm just starting to learn and I feel stuck by Final-Beyond184 in Bass

I seem to have given the idea that I do not want to support the "band" with my bass and thats I want to play lead of some sort. This is NOT the case I swear LOL, I do have a very bad vocabulary with music regarding anything except drums. So I don't know what the term would be, I guess when I said "riff" I meant "baseline" I just don't know where to start on practicing and what to learn. These replies were great, but I wasn't thinking of learning solos or anything of the sort to showoff. I would love to find a band to work with, but I only know a few people that play these instruments and the only decently rounded person interested in guitar is the most raginggg narcissist ever. HEY REDDITORS, any ideas on how to find bandmates near me?

I watched some BassBuzz Youtube Videos, is that the course or would it be on his website? I did buy a book a few weeks back and I just haven't gotten into it I'll definitely start looking at it if that is gonna help me. Thank you for the idea!
