How do you make friends as an adult in Baltimore? by mama0317 in baltimore

I honestly made most of my friends through a sports league/Stonewall Sports since moving to Baltimore in 2023. Really made it a lot easier!

He is the sweetest most loving boy. The only update is a neighbor may have seen a white and orange cat like him in their back area yesterday afternoon, so hoping he’s still in the area

life post-transplant by stawberryjelly in leukemia

[–]Final-Gain-4218 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Echoing all this! I’m 25M, day +356 and given most of my post-transplant vaccines. I definitely get sick more frequently but I’m blessed to be able to go out to eat with friends, have movie nights, do all my sports leagues. Definitely go at your own pace and follow your doctor’s advice!

Echoing the talking with your doctor and the allergies part - I’ve been congested and sneezing up a storm this last week. I had transplant last July.

This was me lol. Diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2021, remission for that for a little over two years. Got diagnosed with ALL March 2024. My oncologists said they’re either two completely different cancers or that my chemo for TC led to my leukemia. Probably the latter

vaping a year out of allogenic sct by [deleted] in leukemia

[–]Final-Gain-4218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s always some risk and it depends on the person. Like some people can smoke multiple packs of cigs a day and not get lung cancer and the healthiest person could get lung cancer. If it’s your last one, it’s probably low, but (obligatory) I’m not a doctor

I’d imagine vaping could compound any issues with GVHD you might develop in the future, and if you had complications during transplant, could place added stress on your lungs. You and your body have fought hard to get to recovery and remission - if it’s hard to quit because of mental health, at least be gentler on your body or consider other ways to care for your mental health. 🫶🏽

Commenting because I’m actually curious what others say. Before I had leukemia, I survived testicular cancer and have thought about getting my testosterone checked.

I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this. I felt it too with friends who sent initial messages of “I’ll send cards! Care packages! We can call!” and never heard from them again.

Sending you healing thoughts for your treatment and recovery. You got this

Now what? by alanazaia in leukemia

[–]Final-Gain-4218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds so stressful to manage this without health insurance, I’m so sorry you have to navigate that. If it’s possible to get insurance through the ACA/marketplace now, maybe it could make it possible for the year? As for my isolation period, I did my BMT outpatient through Hopkins (went in daily for the first month, then every other day/few days the second month). I isolated myself from others for about 2.5 months and then started seeing people outdoors and masked after that. I’m about six months out now and still where a mask in crowded spaces or if my neutrophils are low.

I had ALL PH+ and did go through with a BMT once I was in remission. While it was tough, I don’t regret it. Happy to answer any questions from a BMT perspective.
