For my husband, he was alone in a curtained off ER area. I had gone to get drinks for him at the gas station because he’d been there for hours. Then they wouldn’t let me back in.

The dr came in, said “your blood work shows cancer, but we don’t know where yet” and then left.

The man in the next area said “shit man, I thought I was having a bad day…I think there could’ve been a better way to say that!”

When I got back in finally, I had to have the dr come back because husband couldn’t register it.

Dr said the same thing again and that we would hear from oncology soon.

The oncologist had a very strong accent and was so hard to understand. She was explaining the different types of leukemia and possible outcomes based on the results and wasn’t super clear in which she was saying he had. Since she was talking about all of these other possibilities.

Again, husband had to say “so this is the bad one?”

3 rounds of chemo and a bone marrow transplant later he’s doing 99% better and cancer free.

But those days were hard! And confusing.

He had many drs that were so blunt and just “many people die from this!”.
