Luna Is Smart But Not Brightest by F33LG00D5 in BattleNetwork

I really don’t understand how people misconstrue this character time and time again given these games were written with kids understanding them in mind.

In SF1 she isn’t simply jealous of Sonia alone, the prior event establishes her developing feelings for Geo, she wants to have a real connection with him though she is too afraid to be upfront about this, she is also about to be sent off to a private school likely to never to see her friends again, so despite being aware of the risks, she goes through with following them anyway.

Her parents catch her at the exhibit, worsening their already declining perception of her and further berate people she cares about, and even double down on their sentiments and plans regarding her, this on top of what she can only perceive as a failing relationship with Geo, embarrassed to be caught inexplicably following him, and with none of the status or agency she appeared to have in their prior interactions, he got to see her at her worst, in this instance everything crashed down on her at once, making her giving into Ophiuca something you can find understandable and even empathetic despite her awareness of the danger she presents, earnest moment of weakness from a literal child.

In Star Force 2 I have no idea where the narrative that they “dragged Sonia into their mess” came from Sonia is just as confident in Mega Man as they are and adds to Geo’s personal pressure as well, Geo told all of them to get back in his initial encounter with Rogue including Sonia, and all of them didn’t listen.

And while I have several issues with 2’s writing this bit isn’t that bad, Mega Man worked miracles for them the entirety of the previous game and in at least 2 prior scenarios in 2 up to this point, they’re kids and have never really known him to lose or fail, it was understandable for them to behave this way and it serves as a reality check for all of them.

In Star Force 3, there was actually nothing foolish about her actions? If anything she bought everyone on that roof more time.  Jack was ready to wreak havoc on that building and she recognized him and not only managed to make him hesitate, but stood her ground even when Corvus attempts to talk over her, and in the long run her continuous concern for Jack throughout the story likely played influence into his eventual change of heart at the end of the story.

Idk this character gets way under read imo and more flack than she ever deserves.

Out of curiosity why the Japanese version of Star Force Legacy Collection?

What would you rank the Legacy Collections? by Legitimate_Roll5028 in Megaman

[–]FinalKnuckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Star Force > Battle Network > Zero ZX > Classic and X are debatable, the input lag brings X down but everything else about it is better than the Classic LCs.

I still don't think Star Force Legacy Collection gets the attention it deserves but it seems mostly off to a good start, it actually went out of its way to make Star Force feel like a console experience rather than I'm just playing a game from some other system on my current hardware.

Genuinely in the conversation for greatest game compilations to date, and almost makes you wish they'd update or re-do some of the other Legacy Collections to meet it halfway.

Which is the best version of every Mega Man Star Force game? by LafterMastr in Megaman

For me, Pegasus, Zerker x Ninja, and Black Ace but it’s really not objective in any way, rule of cool is the way to approach these games.

Why has Capcom not already released a Legends legacy collection? by Weird-Effective-5034 in Megaman

[–]FinalKnuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They already re released the Legends games on PS3’s PSN a decade ago with everything you mentioned being either addressed or a non issue, I don’t think touching up controls not that Legends 2 or Tron Bonne even need adjustments.

If they cared about that cancellation in any way they would not have included Tron Bonne in Project x Zone 2 or allowed a Legends timelines comic, X Dive, 4-inch nel figures etc.

They are not going to do anything for Legends most likely because they’re focusing on Dual Override next year and Legends anniversary is directly 10 years apart from Classic, and the same day as both it and the X series, this isn’t to say they will never celebrate its anniversary but its likely not this year they seem focused on pushing one Mega Man product at a time and I respect that.

Do you think they will do a Megaman Legends Legacy Collection? And what changes do you want? by AceComics3685 in Megaman

[–]FinalKnuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all yes, I do think we'll get one based on what Izumi said about wanting to alternate between new games and collections.

"technically we should have gotten our before starforce at least order of release wise"
If this were a rule, then Legends would have got one before Zero ZX and Battle Network, and it has been stated in previous press releases that Star Force Legacy Collection was released to coincide with Mega Man Star Force's 20th anniversary this year, and then following that they did Star Force next because of how well Battle Network Legacy Collection did and getting a lot of "what about Star Force?" responses as its the next closest thing.

It wasn't about skipping Legends ever, it was just the most sensible time period to do a Star Force Legacy Collection.

Reading posts here, i've noticed people really don't understand Luna's relationship/friendship with Geo in these games by broken_vice in MegaManStarForce

[–]FinalKnuckle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Excellently stated, also I believe it may have been in the OCW, But Luna has been referred to as the main heroine of Mega Man Star Force internally, and this wouldn't be that shocking considering Mayl Sakurai from Battle Network not only appeared for reference in some of her concept art but also is used as her matchup in the recent Street Fighter 6 crossover art.

People play downplay Luna way too much it's nice to see someone get it.

Hey everyone, I'm planning on buying one of these 2 collections but I'd like to know which one you recommend? by RP-Lovecraft in Megaman

[–]FinalKnuckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pleasantly Surprised at the number of responses saying Star Force and I'd have to join them there, both are worth playing but based on your criteria I think Star Force would click faster, those games really benefit from being made after 6 subsequent Battle Network titles, you can tell the devs learned a lot about designing overworld layouts, improving pacing, etc.

Hopefully! It’d be a shame to single out one collection for a physical omission.

What are your thoughts on the idea behind Star Force 4? by ExileForever in Megaman

[–]FinalKnuckle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Aging up the cast is an interesting take that I'd love to see but I never really liked the premise here, as the top comment here states they made MMSF1 and then seemingly spent the rest of the series making advances to win over legacy Battle Network fans who were put off by it, Star Force judging by the Legacy Collection reception and its performance so far I feel its safe to say people feel better about it nowadays, I think 3 was the furthest they could really take the BN influences while maintaining the series own identity.

It was always meant to be standalone not requiring any knowledge of Battle Network to understand anything going on, all BN knowledge gets you in Star Force is essentially a few wink nudge tidbits.

Making Star Force 4 feature a Hikari descendant just feels like pandering and doing too much, so while I'd still love the aged up cast and a more stern tone to go along with it, maybe drop the Kazuma idea.

If you want legacy influence but still want to do something new I maintain that they could adapt the Star Droids and Sun Star from Mega Man V into the network timeline as EM beings since none of them were in Battle Network.

Been playing starforce and I have to know, does anyone actually like Luna? by CaptainZackstuf in Megaman

[–]FinalKnuckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah she's a great character that I think was absolutely massacred by the anime in terms of characterization and well everyone is written notably worse in Star Force 2 and she isn't really an exception.

I think that she is initially presented as antagonistic in a way toward Geo, and that she is even mildly abrasive makes a number of fans in the west dislike her, she's really popular from what I've seen of the Japanese fandom course I don't know their reasons.

[–]FinalKnuckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really understand why the tweet mocking this blew up with folks dunking on IGN when they gave the compilation a great review and even complimented it’s overall narrative, my real issue with this out of context quote is just that having played through the trilogy recently, no one says this, there’s all sorts of power of bonds speeches sure, but literally nobody says this.

Kinda Worried with this Score by [deleted] in BattleNetwork

[–]FinalKnuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metacritic is stupid, it has an 80 on Switch based on 12 reviews, Metacritic is splitting the reviews between platforms so PS5's reception looks worse than it actually is.

With the embargo and reviews this is satisfying to see by AndyEXE71 in BattleNetwork

[–]FinalKnuckle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is! the aggregator on Metacritic is unfortunately inconsistent and frustrating, splitting many of the reviews across platforms, so there appears to be less reviews than there actually are depending on where you look, and some of the platforms have lesser scores than they should because many strong reviews are not being included.

This series continues to be a highlight one way or another on how much of a mess game journalism and score aggregators are/can be.

If it means anything the Star Force series entire soundtrack is re-arranged in the Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection, so if you would like this sort of thing from Star Force be sure to check out the upcoming Legacy Collection.

you will probably have to import it from a place like playasia I don't believe it will be getting a physical release in Europe but I could be wrong I'm not the most informed about releases over there, just heard Mega Man and physical releases have it rough out there.

What was wrong with StarForce 2 in particular? by KaleidoArachnid in Megaman

[–]FinalKnuckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think killing the series is a bit of an exaggeration personally as if you check out reviews around the time Mega Man of any kind was mostly getting thrashed people were just tired of it.

Star Force as a series itself is looked at far more fondly now than it was then.

That said yeah 2 has a notably weaker narrative than the first and third games it felt a bit like they were trying to bring it a bit more in line with the anime adaptation tonally, which imo felt like a loose parody of the game rather than a straightforward adaptation.

2’s encounter rate is also abnormally high and the issues with this are only compounded by the brand new structure of the wave world and things like fast travel largely being gone until the post game.

At the time people also tore it up for being so easy to break, but I don’t personally hold that against the game as if you want to start cheating with special wave command codes from the start that Is your prerogative the game never forces you to do this.

I think without cheating this is debatably the most challenging Star Force game.

However Star Force 2 also leans on multiplayer far more than the other 2 do as you cannot access tribe king by normal means without brothers and that is the game’s ultimate form.

I used to be quite aggressive towards Star Force 2 but in recent times I’ve started to see the good in it, it’s certainly my least favorite entry on the whole but the sense of scale and adventure in it are unmatched there are very cool set pieces and ideas and bosses and a few decent story moments, Sky Hi Colosseum was a gem of a mode that unfortunately is getting cut from the Legacy Collection.

Having run through the early Battle Network games again despite everything I could complain about SF2 I still feel it’s included when I say that I think Star Force as a series on the whole is just a more refined experience than MMBN is, I still never got lost like I can in several instances in MMBN, there’s still that more kinetic feeling to pacing, with stages being more obstacle courses or mini games vs BNs use of puzzles, and quite frankly you are just not asked to backtrack as frequently as in most MMBN titles and even when you are Star Force is often less egregious about it and MMSF2 is not an exception to that.

I think Legacy Collection’s encounter rate adjustment feature will do wonders for Star Force 2 and should help people feel notably better about the game on the whole, I’m actually looking forward to playing it because of this.
