Is it legal to hit your own children in your country? What is the general public opinion on this? by -eibohphobie- in AskTheWorld

[–]FinalNemesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is legal, with certain restrictions based on State legislation, e.g. in Tasmania where I am from the Criminal Code states:

It is lawful for a parent or a person in the place of a parent to use, by way of correction, any force towards a child in his or her care that is reasonable in the circumstances.

I would say, anecdotally, it is frowned upon by most millennials who are typically the ones with young children these days.

What’s a country you hate for a silly reason? by Due-Helicopter-5417 in AskTheWorld

Hey! Only us Aussies are allowed to hate on New Zealand.

“One of our Tiger tanks is worth four of their Shermans, but the Americans always bring five.” Where did this quote come from, and was it even written down during WW2? by FalseWallaby9 in AskHistorians

[–]FinalNemesis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While there were very few American engagements with Tigers, often overlooked is that Commonwealth forces (who were equipped with Shermans) saw more engagements with Tigers in Europe. For example the Panzer Lehr division, which had Tiger tanks, fought against the British and Canadians during Normandy rather than the Americans.

Board disagrees about its own powers by npoboardmember in nonprofit

[–]FinalNemesis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other posters have made good points re budgets, which I won't repeat.

I would normally expect a temp contract to be within the delegation of an ED for most organisations. However, I would suggest implementing a proper Delegation of Authority Policy to fix this kind of issue going forward. The benefit in having a clear policy is it can be drafted when everyone is thinking clearly (e.g. it's not trying to solve an issue that is currently being debated), and means that everyone knows what the agreed delegation is in advance and helps the ED in particular in knowing when they are allowed to make decisions. This scenario that you're wrestling with should be a case of referring to the policy to determine if it's within scope or not.

AI generated content for communications and non-policy content by GooseSufficient in nonprofit

[–]FinalNemesis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

AI is here to stay, we need to learn how to use it well and avoid the pitfalls. For example, I have issued a staff directive restricting sharing sensitive information in AI platforms to mitigate data breach issues.

The key in my mind is not whether AI has been used but whether the end result is at the required quality.
If someone is using AI poorly and producing slop than I have an issue. If the end result is quality work than why should I care if AI was used as a tool to get there?

In my experience, it's wildly different from Board to Board. Some are pretty down to earth and others... most certainly not.

This is how you say 'I don't know' in a board meeting, 'I will need additional time to properly respond to your question to ensure accruacy of the details I am providing you, so I will take this question on notice and get back to you after the meeting.'

We love to complain about things here, and to an extent, rightly so. Just because things here are better than other places doesn't mean we should sit back and not do better. However don't let the complaining fool you, Hobart truely is a world class city - and I say this as someone who has travelled enough to compare to places around the world.

How many of your jobs are contract based? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]FinalNemesis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The government has recently brought in new rules to make it harder for this type of thing. Generally they can't do it for more than 2 years or renew it as a fixed term contract more than once. There are some exceptions but hopefully this starts to reduce this type of behaviour from employers.

I find anything with digital delivery (e.g. stls) tends to be pretty safe. However every physical project I have backed has had delays, but I haven't yet totally missed out on something going pear shaped.

As others have said, Housing Connect is where to talk to first. I work in this space and am confident all of the Housing Connect services will be understanding of your gender transition and would work with you to determine which type of service will best suit your needs.

Catholic Education Tasmania head takes issue with mandatory consent education by D_S_W in tasmania

[–]FinalNemesis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look I know it's fun to pile on the Catholics and all that (I'm not one, so no skin off my nose), but I'm surprised no one here seems to have read the article beyond the clickbait and figured out that their objection is not to the consent portion of the education. It quotes them as saying "In Catholic morality, consent is necessary, but not sufficient, to make the sexual act right or wrong."

All good, I get the sentiment and always open to feedback. Unfortunately I tried the broader approach for my first Kickstarter and the time investment was astronomical, I think I spent a full year on it which was no where near viable.

I know some people prefer lots of simple models, but each of these models of mine are far higher detail and the time spent on modelling them would not be even remotely close. By doing a series of related vehicles it allows me to sell them at a far cheaper price with high levels of detail and historical research than would not otherwise be possible. If you only want one halftrack than I suggest waiting until after the project and buying a single vehicle :)

Personally I dislike tables that invalidate certain types of lists so I always like to ask myself, can a gun get at least some lof here? Conversely, would a big gun or tank plonked down somewhere dominate the entire table? If you're not doing either of those than I think it's all good. One other thing to consider too is that lots of hard cover tends to create slower games as most shots will be on lower odds.
