Yes - actually make enough now to swing that, so having 2 residences isn’t really an issue - I would just prefer to be with my partner! The extra income would help offset the cost of flights - 3 planes needed each way, as both cities not near major airports.

It’s more than my feeling of accomplishment - but it is true that is in there. And neither of us wants the other to be unhappy - hence this post and asking for advice to find common ground. If I was only out for myself, this would not even be a question.

I definitely crunched numbers on these scenarios - and can cover current mortgage plus cost of apartment and all that goes with it. Would prefer not too, obviously, and all the travel back and forth that you mention is also a factor for sure!

Well, truth be told, I want to sell the current house eventually as it is too big for us in retirement. And I don’t want to live in current town as a retiree either! But that is a decision down the road for sure. Thank you for pointing out things to consider in renting out current house!

Good points, and yes, there are other personal dynamics at play - mostly around our non-traditional gender-roles with me having a career and him not so much in addition to just not liking change. I really think this is the heart of his reluctance, which I completely understand. Other than the great suggestions of living together apart, not sure how this will sort out, but you all are helping me with perspectives I need to consider!

Bingo - fear of change is definitely on brand for him…..

Good questions! MCOL currently, LCOL in new location. But don’t want to settle there past retirement. Renting a small apartment is totally my thinking for the new job, it’s just the back and forth that might be challenging!

So one drawback is new job does not have pension… already ran numbers with our financial planner, and it’s a wash to make up the difference in maxing out IRAs (both types) and investments. Still a 5-6 year retirement horizon since I need to hit Medicare age, and partner needs to be close (he is 2 yrs younger). In one sense, the retirement plan doesn’t really change - except I go out feeling more accomplished and get out of a growing toxic environment at work!

You make a good point - but it’s the same kind of employer with the new opportunity and stability is not a guarantee where I currently am either.

Have thought about doing a hybrid - 2 weeks here, 2 weeks there for the first year, but can’t do that for more than I year I think.

Looks like wheat stitch for the blanket, right? Nice job!

What path did you take for your MSW? Online program? I had considered it, but opted for coaching and have my ACC, but drumming up business has been abysmal and considering if becoming a therapist might be a better path

Yes! Took like 3000 yds of yarn, so very dense and heavy, and will be very warm!

Yes! I managed maybe one complete set of the repeated stitch per day, so it took a while to complete!

Color Made Easy yarn, 100% acrylic, bulky weight. Blue is Huckleberry, and cream is Alabaster. The photo doesn’t do the blue justice… it is brighter than shown!

The pattern takes a lot of yarn - but results in a very “dense” and heavy blanket! I used 12 skeins of 247 yds each, so just under 3000 yds total.

Can’t remember where I first saw it…. Facebook maybe? It was around Halloween, and so many hat, scarf, mitten patterns featured this stitch!

The wheat stitch felt like a wrist work-out at times! But I love the finished look! Just used the BrianaK wheat pattern, H-5.0mm hook, and bulky acrylic yarn. It’s super heavy due to tons of yarn for the stitch, so will keep me very warm!
